I've been using this knife for a while now. Its holding up great! I sharpend it and the edge has held on very good. Firestiker works great. Whistle is junk. replace it. Nice review!
Great review, I enjoyed hearing someone knowledgable talk about kniives for once! I might buy this but can anyone recomend a higher quality fixed blade with fire steel for me to consider? Thanks!!
Oh dear... Ultralight backpackers attempting to make a survival knife. Can't take ultralighters seriously in the outdoors. Although I'm not fond of the knife or its intended audience, it was well presented! You hit every point well and introduced each feature flawlessly. I'm also very fond of your Fiddleback Forge Woodsman. Actually live near there. Do you do this by profession?
I'd like to add that its not carbon vs stainless that makes a difference in throwing sparks, but the edge you use to throw them, if not squared off to 90 degrees you wont see a good shower of sparks.
I've seen people refer to that "push-button slider thing" as a "cord lock". There's even a company called Oregon Cord Lock whose website is at, appropriately enough, cordlock(dot)com.
@QuietBearr ;D.. yeah because im going to go on a canoetour in sweden in the summer and for that i want a good knife and a firesteel and i think the dajo survivor will do it for me
I think I will order. I do, however, plan on mounting (probably epoxy) a signaling mirror against the sheath, when the accessory flap is open. What do ya think Bear?
i think this is a knife that would grow on you, i really like the sheath.. and iam picky about knife sheaths. really like the vertical mount option. good vid.... and thanks
I did grow on me at least, I like it, it does go dull after about a days work of building a shelter, but to be honest it resharpened just about as fast as anything.
To further that, the addition of tungsten was noticeable in the steel.
Light eh? I was pretty amazed, of course most of my knvies have always been clunkers, well not clunkers, but not light, so I was pretty amazed at 6 oz.
Nice backup knife:) And for the fact.. Firesteels work just fine with a pice of flint too:) Its the 90degree or less edge that has to be to make a spark, not the material striking the fire steel:) Nice review and nice intros you got:)
Wow... that's a lot of stuff for a very reasonable price... seems like a pretty decent set-up.... maybe like a starter or back-up/spare kit to keep in the trunk or so...
Curious to see how it holds up in your testing...
And yep.. pretty cool intro :) Diggin' the new intros, Man...
I agree I think it would be an excellent start up knife or backup blade, or just something to keep in the collection I suppose after it grew larger, but for the price, it is a great starter upper!
I think the absolute best blades on the planet come from Japan, and they are well noted for it. Germany produces good solingen steel. Spain has companies that have been making swords for over 500 years. Theres nothing wrong with Chinese manufacturfed blades designed and produced with American specs. Like Schrade, Smith and Wesson, Uncle Henry, Old Timer, many more etc. Great vid QB. 5 starz. I like that little knife. May give it a try.
See, there you go lol, I didnt release that! LOL, I do think that HC blades and strikers work better, like hacksaw blades, but stainless also works great in my experience!
quite, i love how people are always saying things about chinese blades, and how they're crap, however, i feel, some of the best blades around come from china....agree?
Well, I think that the best blades around come from the US custom scene, but I may be biased. I do however think that there are fine blades coming from China, I mention so in my Made In the USA video
With that set-up, at that price, no one has an excuse to go into the woods without those three essentials. Hope the steel holds an edge half way decent for you.
I do too, we will see, I have used it last night in the first part of testing in the kitchen making a meal of chicken, potatoes, onions, garlic, dill weed, and something else I forget.
But it did really well there, the real test will be how it performs in the kitchen again after I take it out and build a shelter with it.
Oh yea, lol, I thought of something. All it needs is a water filter and it would have them all, water, food, fire, signalling, shelter, oh, I guess it needs a buton compass, but I have never liked buton compasses on my knives, they usually dont last with the abuse a knife takes.
But add in a water filter and it is total! LOL, I dont think I would want to drink from a water filter that could fit in a $40 knife package! LOL, although the purification tabs are pretty cheap!

a ram is just a male sheep, so any animal that is of the sheep family and a male is a ram. so a ram is a sheep but a sheep is not always a ram
