If you think that it doesn't here's the perfect example...Obama is not referred to as the first interracial President but as the first Black President. As Whoopi stated, his mother is white but society has been setup to view him as a black male because he has a drop of black blood in him (that's the Jim Crow part) even in Hollywood, Halle Berry noted as the first black woman to win an oscar, her mom is white, (that's the Jim Crow Law).

I'm a black man and I have to admit that Sherry does make a valid point. As an educated black man I've noticed a lot of my college acquaintances preference for non-black women. It's like they put non-black women on pedastals and revere them while denigrating black women. Every positive remark reserved for a non-black woman is quickly followed up with a negative remark towards black women. This ideology is pronounced among many, not all, black men even though they will deny it.

Its funny because I never viewed interracial dating as strange or anything. I'm half black so it isn't weird. My dad is black and my mom is white. We live in an area where there arn't very many black people so a lot of the black people here are related, so naturally he married a white woman. I read Jill Scott's article. I think what she said had some truth as far as white women being put on a pedestal in America but at the same time I think she needs to be aware of when to apply that view. Not every Black man who is involved with a white woman is doing it for the reasons she highlights. Yes there are Black guys who think white women are the top women to have but that doesn't apply to every Black man involved with a white woman.

A few things.

1)Whoopi made a GREAT point that people rarely bring up when discussing this issue on TV. That a lot of black men are being "leap frogged" by black women to for not fitting a certain image of what they think a black man should be.

2)Sherry seems to share J Scotts thinking.

3)The fact that Jill Scott is taking heat for this shows that the black woman's victim card with regards to who a black man chooses to date is reaching it's expiration date. People are getting tired of it.
