beautiful animal... dont know how people can hunt them.
It's one thing if it's attacking you, but that's rare. I wouldnt want to go outside and give the big fella a hug, especially while he's eating but they are pretty amazing.
Black bears are everywhere in Northern NJ, and usually big 500 pounders. Size doesn't really matter cause the mother's always near by if it's a cub. I was looking for fish bait 4 years ago with my friend and I looked up after I put a salamander in a bottle, a black bear cub was in a tree, staring at us, we started to freak out and we ran away. Weird, you can be afraid of something, but yet you still find it somewhat majestic and graceful, I'm like that with wolves, bears, and sharks.
I 'm sorry for any comments from users who failed to recognize a bear robbing the birds seed who've hurled wild accusations at you. I've lost numerous songbird & suet feeders etc to a couple of local bears in my remote area. It happens. I'm not going to stop feeding my birds. If I see a bear & want him to go away I just holler and he wanders off. In my area, I consider myself to be on his turf not vice versa. Congrats on the video and don't let some people get you down!
If there was food placed intentionally, than shame on you. That will put you and the bear at higher risk for sudden unexpected death. If not. Than what the heck did you forget to clean up, obviously the bear was into something...On the property...But black bears are beutiful. Learn his name. Don't kill him either. How would you feel if someone blew you away because you were eating in your dining room?
I live in Holland, once I went to America and in Yosemite Park, I came like 4 meters distance of a black bear outside, it got pretty mad after a while :P
The problem with that theory is that bears are predators, and unarmed humans are easier prey than almost any other animal. Once the bear tastes human blood and figures out we're food, it then has to be killed. Removing the predator's natural fear of human beings is bad for both people and bears.
I absolutely agree!! I lived in the bush mountains of Prince of Wales Island in SE Alaska for almost 3 years and all over the unguarded Islands of SE for most of the past 24 years, with my kids playing outside all day with the bears just a few feet away and NEVER not once did they pose a threat to anyone I knew living that lifestyle with us.....If you see a black bear, all you do have to do is yell at it and it will tuck it's little bump of a tail between it's butt cheeks and run off whinning.
You are wrong unarmed human can be very dangerous too because once polar bear attacked human mother protecting her child human mother killed the bear unarmed lessthancharmed (sorry for my bad english)
at about 9 p.m. tonight, June 28th a bear strolled through my backyard. i didn't happen to get a picture but it had two tags, one in its left ear and one in its right. it was rather exciting, did you think so when this happened?? I thought it was awesome!! I just wish i could have gotten a picture.
Attempts to scare it away should have occured. Allowing the bear to stay in the backyard the bear can get a little too comfortable.Discourage bears from residing with humans!! Good ways to scare Go to second floor of house if possible and yell at bear "GO AWAY BEAR GO AWAY BEAR!" Pots and pans will also work, whistles, bells. Don't allow the bear to think it is ok to be there Often times when bears habituate to an area property damage, bear break ins, injuries, and even deaths can follow.
good comment, that situation is worse for the bear than anyone else. that bear will probably be destroyed now because it has learned it gets food from human homes. people think it is "cute" when a bear is looking for food in their trash. its not, its dangerous for people but more so for the bear.
He claims that Black Bears are extremely misunderstood and that coming across an agressive one is like one in a million. He thinks nothing about approaching them and even pets them, yet he hasn't come across any trouble with them.
Anyway, I just thought it'd be interesting to share that, because it goes against everything we're told and has been done with such success!
YES! YES! YES! The Bear is one of the most perfect and majestic creatures to walk the earth and many worship Bears for good reason.I really envy these people.

I'm in Colorado and have had a black bear in the back yard last few nights.
When the bear leaves my yard, the raccoons show up, and the deer usually walk by in the front.
Thanks for posting this video.

Black bears are just about harmless - they're dangerous but they have NO DESIRE WHATSOEVER to make a meal out of you.

Actually... In Ely, Minnesota... Lynn Rogers, a bear biologist, often gets Bear coming into his front and back yards. Even in broad daylight.
But rather than trying to scare them away, he interacts with them and even feeds them. He's been doing so for about four years now.

Don't get me wrong here. I know these are very powerful creatures that can and do attack humans, but I think Lynn Rogers is onto something...
