I have been battling my insignia camcorder trying to figure out how to get it to play on my xp thinkpad....hopefully these codecs will help me out! I had reached the conclusion that my computer was just too old to play these videos and causing my video editors to crash!
My sister-in-law as this camcorder and took some video and I did too of same event but with a digital camera Sony. I wanted to put both together into one video in movie maker. I have vista. The published video result was bad in that the video segment my sister-in-law took the bottom half of the screen was green. I searched the internet for solution. It was in movie maker go to tools options and click on compatibility then uncheck any divx decoder filter and Xvide MPEG-4 decoder. Problem solved
I have to change the link, if your using vista those codecs are fne, in your using xp your going to want to download the K-Lite Mega Codec pack, im using it and it works fine, I can edit in camtasia as well as movie maker..get the new link
It doesn't come with video editing software, the format is mpeg, but in an avi wrapper so when you read the format it says avi...thats why its unrecognized and you need the codecs
is it compatible with mac???

Yours is the only review of this Insignia camcorder I've come across that explained that the file format is actually mpeg, but in an .avi wrapper.
I haven't been able to get Sony Vegas Movie Studio to load my clips - it keeps saying 'stream attributes not recognized.'
I'll get those codec packs you listed in the sidebar and give THAT a try.
Thanks for a good review
