It basically says that you don't just overhaul your franchise just because a bunch of fans can't accept the fact that their team fell a couple of plays short of winning a big game. It reminds me of how the Chargers fired Schottenheimer right after a 14-2 season. They've never recovered since then! I'll take a 14-2 coach or player who has ups & downs in the post season over someone who barely gets there in the first place, if at all.
I still think that's over analyzing the situation. A Super Bowl QB shouldn't be asked to do too much. IMO, the 2 hottest regular season offenses (Saints & Packers) didn't even get to the Conf. Championship game even though they had the 2 best QBs in the NFL. The playoffs favors teams that are a bit more holistic like the Ravens, Giants, & 49ers. Those teams don't have the most elite QBs, but they have a little bit more of everything else (than that Pats did) to make up for it.
I'm glad you mention Jim Kelly. I was the biggest Bills fanatic in those days, & he's still my favorite player of all time. I just think it's unfair that the sports world judges Brady on this handful of big games that very few QBs/players even get to in the 1stt place. Post season performance is only one factor in which to judge a position that requires so many important qualities. I'd even say that had 1 or 2 of those 4th qtr drops been caught, the Pats probably would've won.

Championship game even though they had the 2 best QBs in the NFL. The playoffs favors teams that are a bit more holistic like the Ravens, Giants, & 49ers. Those teams don't have the most elite QBs, but they have a little bit more of everything else (than that Pats did) to make up for it.

I'm glad you mention Jim Kelly. I was the biggest Bills fanatic in those days, & he's still my favorite player of all time. I just think it's unfair that the sports world judges Brady on this handful of big games that very few QBs/players even get to in the 1stt place. Post season performance is only one factor in which to judge a position that requires so many important qualities. I'd even say that had 1 or 2 of those 4th qtr drops been caught, the Pats probably would've won.

Aaron Rodgers himself said that 2 things Brady does better than any QB he's ever seen are 1) fooling defenders with his eyes, and 2) making subtle adjustments in the pocket to avoid pressure. I'm just saying that Brady is a huge part of their success. A QB like him covers up a lot of other guys's mistakes. And, when he makes a few mistakes, people act like it's the end of the world. OMG, he has only won 3/5 SBs. Please! He's only human and tends to freely admit his mistakes.

Damn fine, of course. But not one of the best one's he has had - particularly on defense, which still did a decent job against Eli. My only gripe is that they didn't get enough pressure on Eli late in the game. I'm not saying Brady is doing it all. But the "blame the QB" POV is distorted. Had the Pats won, Eli could've... no, WOULD'VE been blamed. And Eli wouldn't have deserved that. Sadly, people expect QBs to be flawless and incapable of error. Win as a team, lose as a team.

It's why any great QB has the numbers. It could be argued that any "great" quarterback would be average with an under-performing o-line. I think we all forget that the Giants's defense made MVP Aaron Rodgers very uncomfortable in the Div. playoff round. I think Brady held his own this year without the most spectacular supporting cast. I don't think very many other QBs could've taken the Pats to the SB this year & have gotten so close to beating a Giants team that was on fire.

I really wish Ochocinco was targeted more. I mean, why'd they pick him up in the first place? When a guy goes down (i.e., Gronk), you have to make up for it somehow. It's too much to ask for to have Welker and Hernandez pick up all of the slack. WADR to the Giants -- they outplayed us and deserved to win (as they showed in their final 5-6 games) -- but it was the Patriots's game to loose. Just like SF had the week before, the Patriots had tons of opportunities to make plays to win.

At the 3:03 mark the announcer has the play starting at the 40 and ending at the 12. Look at the play. It actually starts at the 30 (it says so on the screen) and ends at the 17 (count the lines on the field every five yards)

My original point was fans of other teams tend not to like NE because of situations like these. It's great that Pats fans are entertained, but if you think that passing on 4th down up 52 points makes other fans respect NE then I give up.
