  • which one of these fluval filters will work great on a 10 gallon tank?

  • I have a 20 gallon tall tank, it's older, but how long is the tube when it's fully expended?

  • Good review , very informative. How strong is the output? Would you consider it stronger than the old Aqua Clears? Would the lowest settings be comparable to the highest AQ settings?

  • how do you get that big sponge wheel thing to work? do you just need an air pump?

  • $39.49 on Amazon.com (FYI)

  • Thanks for posting. Fluval should send you a check because I'm buying a C4 after watching your vid.

  • this vs aquaclear 70 plz tell me

  • @Hungryfish17 If you look either to side where "related videos" is I have a whole very detailed video on this. Or just click on my name, it is like the 3rd video I ever put out so it will be at the bottom there. It is called "Fluval C Series complete overview and comparison to AquaClears" or something like that.

  • ummm how the hell do u sleep at night

  • @AquariumTech i think he mean with all the noise of the water flow

  • @smecherul26

You see those pills on his nightstand?

  • hay dude looks like your on a lot of meds from all those bottle on your nightstand , guess im just overly observant lol, thanks for the review ive only been using hagans other model the aquaclear line everything hagan makes in there fluval line top stuff

  • hay dude looks like your on a lot of meds from all those bottle on your nightstand , guess im just overly observant lol

  • for 66 plus the retarded new CANADIAN GOVERNMENT tax is it worth it

  • Great review, much appreciated!

  • The cheapest I have seen is $119 :(

  • what would you prefer more? an aqua clear 70 or a fluval C4?

  • price?

  • @Cichlidlover22 I believe market price is around 60-65 for it.

  • No, it's still a bit loud....I tried switching out impeller/motor units, and didn't notice a change. It may have gotten quieter over the last couple months, but I've gotten used to it. Still wishing it was silent though.

  • @leppell Are you sure everything, is assembled correctly? Is the intake tube on 100% is the water flow director on all the way and unclogged? Are the media baskets in all the way?

  • Comment removed

  • @AquariumTech Absolutely positive everything is assembled, unclogged, and working correctly. This isn't my first rodeo. Perhaps with the # of apparatii that you have across your various setups, you're just not hearing it. I'm at a disadvantage also with the alcove that my tank sits in, the alcove acts as an amplifier directing the sound in a more concentrated way.....much like a speaker box in a car stereo system works.

  • @leppell Well sometimes my cover starts rattling (like once a month randomly) and I just slap it and it stops. It is though a pretty obnoxious noise. Is it possibly that? Other than that the only thing I could guess at with out looking at it is; sometimes when the water level gets low it will start to make noise. Also the cover for the sponge part or the little indicator could do the same.

  • @leppell If you get really desperate, call Hagen. If that doesnt work and you really need it fixed; send it to me. Im also some what of a "tech expert" when it comes to a number of things.

  • @leppell where did you get a different motor? is it the same one from the aquaclear 70?

  • @markie7882 you can buy replacements online. The motor and impeller are the same, look at my complete comparison to the aquaclear and I actually show you.

  • @markie7882 My LFS switched it out with another unit that had I had returned with a broken housing (it was broken when I opened the box).

  • great job on the videos, keep them coming!

  • why two filters?

  • @starcraftluver62 what do you mean?

  • @AquariumTech nevermind i was just wondering why do you have a aqueon and a fluval on one tank.

  • @starcraftluver62 Aqueon? what are you talking about theres no aqueon on that tank. What do you mean by aqueon? Its not unusual to have multiple filters on one tank.

  • @AquariumTech i meant a aqua clear haha sry

  • its a bomb only messing c4 funny

  • can u show a video of all of your tanks thanks

  • Thanks for this video. You have done something the manufacture failed to do for a new product. Give everyone insight about how it is actually working. Thanks again.

  • @smitty03281964 Yea thanks man thats what I was trying to do I know its a shizte video, if you watch the comparison to the aquaclear I am much more through, and will show you every part.

I wanted to know for myself before I bought it, I figured though its Hagen, I cant go wrong.

  • @AquariumTech Youa are right about that I am a die hard Hagen (Aquaclear, Fluval); Eheim guy.

  • thats pretty cool, I will for sure get this filter if my aquaclear ever breaks.

  • 2 month verdict...

This thing catches so much I'm going to have to add on another.

  • @TheVariantstrain yea a pre-filter will help with that too.

  • I've pulled the filter off the tank, it is definately coming from motor/impeller. I have the leveller attached, just having a hard time determining if it actually is level. Tank is full, filter water level is where it should be (according to the demo I saw from the fluval reps over the weekend). But if you say your motor is silent, I'll double check with another unit at my LFS to confirm, and exchange/replace it.

  • @leppell Yea deffinitly like I said go to Hagen or your lfs and get a new motor or impeller, if that happens to be the cause.

  • Hows the noise from the impeller and motor on your unit? I installed a C4 2 days ago, but didn't take note at the time. Last nite it seemed though that motor/impeller was much much louder than it should be vs. the penguin that I replaced. I was hoping for near silent operation.

  • @leppell It should be silent, did you fill it full of water before you started it? Is the flow control all the way on? Check the motor and impeller unit for a clog. Also make sure the intake tube is on all the way, press down on it. Also it could be the water level, if it gets too low, it makes it harder for the motor to pull it up. When did the noise start? There is also possibility of a defect, but of course Hagen will be happy to take care of that for you.

  • @AquariumTech well, I've had the unit since sunday...never noticed it when I set it up, though I wasn't looking for that at the time. Didn't notice till the next day when everything in the house was silent. Water level is good, impeller is clean, and the noise level is consistent whether the intake tube is on or off. Water flow is very good, so it's not limiting function. Possibly because of it not being level? Its on a bowfront in a custom recessed part of wall, so it's hard to tell.

  • @leppell Yes that is a possibility, it should have came with a leveler that attaches to the bottom of the main case unit. Now where exactly is the noise coming from? Also on the back of it you should be able to see your water level; where is it at about? Just use some of the markings on the back of the filter to tell me.

  • @leppell Was just wondering if you found out what was wrong with your noise issue. Just got mine as well, and it sounds like we're having the same problem. Although mine is brand new maybe i just need to let it run for a bit, but so far it's pretty loud. Louder than the TV that I have mounted above the fish tank. Pretty obnoxious to be honest. I haven't taken the impeller out yet, just wanted to see if the noise went down. It's just a constant buzzing . . .Not from the cover either.

  • Hmm..interesting guess I'll leave it alone for now and see how it goes. Thanks.

  • Yeah the c3 intake is way bigger then the ac50 because I have both on my tank. For the ac50 I just use the sponge pre filter from the fluval edge tank. Also yes my tank has java moss which does get clogged in the filter and I try my best to get rid of all I can that is stuck on the intake but some gets onto the foam itself and I clean it good but no matter what the indicator keeps popping back up usually within minutes if putting the foam back in. Was tempted to buy a new foam because the one t

  • @infamousgook im not sure which one the fluval edge (pre-filter) is I havent really looked at them but I know the filter in the edge is an aquaclear 20, and has the same intake as the 50s. Anyways like I said good suggestion would be the ATI Hydro pre-filter sponge. If you dont want to do that just, leave the sponge alone and see what happens. For some reason like the first week I had it my button was up too, and I just left it alone and now its down and hasnt gone back up since I got it.

  • How's the c4 holding up? My c3 foam pad keeps clogging on me and the little indicator stays lifted up no matter how good I rinse the pad. Been thinking of getting a pre filter sponge for it but the intake filter on this model is huge compared to the AC filters. Any ideas?

  • @infamousgook Is there a lot of "crud" in your water? Is it a planted tank? No my C4 hasnt had that problem yet. Next time it pops up just let it sit for like a week (unless it starts over flowing or something),and just see what happens. I would suggest getting a pre-filter though you have nothing to loose there. I'd suggest (for any kind of sponge filter) the ATI Hydro Sponge Pre-Filters. They come with 3 adapters and like I was saying in the AquaClear comparison video you can use teflon tape.

  • @AquariumTech Also I had the problem that in take tube on mine was smaller than the AC70's. Heres how its supposed to work:

(not sure if its released yet) C1=AC20

    C2=AC30

    C3=AC50

    C4=AC70

So im guessing yours is bigger than an AC50's. Either way all the AC models have the same intake tube besides the 70s and 110s. Im not sure about the new fluval ones though, I guess its possible the reason the C4 on is smaller is so it will also work on other models like the C3 in this case.

  • @infamousgook O and like I said if I understood it right being that the intake on the C3 is bigger than the AC50s, then it probably is the same intake as mine and if you get that pre-filter I mentioned use the biggest adapter in the kit and just shove it in with some teflon tape, but that should definitely help out. Hope all that helps.

  • wow nicely overkill with the filters for such a small tank but nice

  • Now if Hagen would just make a hybrid of this with an AC. Basically take a regular AC for the anything-goes media compartment and add on the trickle-bio feature instead in place of the current bio-drown design.

  • Yes that particurlar one on the left closest side of the tank is an aquaclear 70 power head. I can do a whole review. I need to solve some issues with the camera and after I do I will be making regular videos.

  • Nice video finally someone makes a video on the fluval c series. I bought the c3 2 weeks ago and love it. I also have a aquaclear 50 but I think I like the c3 more. Was hoping you can make a video on your powerhead looks like a aquaclear. Thanks!

  • @infamousgook

Those AC powerheads are excellent. Especially with the quick connect.

  • @TheVariantstrain sweet! i just ordered one, cant wait for it to come!

  • @TheVariantstrain Yes if you can see the one in there has the quick filter attachment, it is VERY GOOD at polishing the water! Does need to be cleaned often though.
