  • For that benchmark IE9 is the fastest browser but for everything I make using JavaScript and HTML5 canvas, Chrome is fastest, followed by Firefox, and IE9 is last. Does anyone else have similar experiences using HTML5 canvas on multiple browsers? I wonder if there is some style of programming or techniques I'm missing out on.

  • @iGarthi If you don't understand the concept of WebKit, don't pretend that you do.

  • i hate IE because when i want to watch a video on youtube it says "update or install Adobe"

and i don't want this.....but with chrome is good no adobe needed

  • @ladose1000 you know you REALLY should have adobe reader it is very importantant. but if you want to use chrome thats fine

  • @ladose1000 thats only on your computer

  • @LG141602 no IE needs adobe!

  • @ladose1000 What? maybe you awnsered the wrong comment. IE plays youtube videos really fast without asking for flash or an update.

  • Where do you get that benchmark tool?

  • Is that Christopher Waltz speaking? ...

  • google

  • use ie and bing goofle is spying

  • why do people love google so much ? they steal your information, have been caught red handed sniffing wifi packets, most of their "innovative ideas" are purchased from other developers, and their own work is shotty at best. Their only claim to fame is their search engine... Advertising, yeah we all love it. Quit licking googles butt.

  • @MSisBetter Meh its just a fast engine

  • LOL I tried it by myself and even now Google Chrome version 12 & 13 can't beat IE9 GPU acceleration performance. TAKE THAT FANBOYS.. there's something wrong inside YOUR BRAIN!

  • Lol a note:

    THIS IS A MIRCOSOFT TEST!!!

  • MAKE A TEST YOURSELF AND COMPARE THEM!

  • The last version of chrome is now Google Chrome 12. This test is not realistic!!!

  • ccc chrome s**** ccc

  • Anyway, i through this depends on the video card? because it seems like it.

  • @AllanWeisser "more faster (read magazines and search the diference of perfomance in other sites)."

    ...

  • t

    rrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

  • IE9 is not slow.

It's only slow when you've too many add-ons.

IE9 takes 2 seconds to open up and go to my homepage, but chrome takes 4.

  • they created ie to be optimized for html 5 but those fish are made by microsoft themselves just to make them looks better but the theory is no its not chrome ftw. it can never be better.,

  • Also for HTML5 Total support statistics, I think this might be relevant :

    html5test com/

  • I like how you used Internet Explorer's personal Fish Demo Application downloaded off of Microsoft's website and still called it a "fair test"

  • Guuys guuys guuuuys..Firefox 4 and nothing else...even if u get the same FPS at the same fishes number still the Firefox looks smoother..ill upload a video explaining everything in a noobs-Friendly way if i get 5 msgs askin for it =)

  • What's the name of the banchmark . LOL

  • The 60 fps looks more like 5 fps to me

  • Chrome was the browser for people who don't know how the web works and think that faster is better. With Internet Explorer 9 Chrome is a bit outdated I think.

I'm a big fan of Firepl0x because it's so advanced.

  • @Remi1115

    Why is faster not better?

  • I gotta say, Internet Explorer have come a long way & now has become one of the best browsers in the world right now. For downloading Firefox.

  • Lol, voice cracks at 0:15

  • yea i know, ie9 has graphics acceleration.. (using your graphics card, too) BUT im almost 100% sure that chrome updates their browser so it will use gpu acceleration, too!

  • LOL to the fanatic idiots that bash IE9 despite the proof that Google Chrome is SLOWER in HTML5 enviroment from the latest Microsoft sollution

  • @Greekpride1231 IE9 has the worst interface ever. I've done speed comparisons myself and even if in theory ie is supposed to be faster, GOOGLE CHROME IS STILL FASTER IN REALITY.

  • FTW CHROME SIX!! ITS 10 NOWDAYS!

  • Comment removed

  • i disagree google chrome is still better and i got qwest high speed internet and that and google chrome its awesome screw all these new internet explorers and shitt

  • I tried the test in Firefox 4 beta 12 and in IE9 beta. Tried Firefoxfirst and results were better than Chrome is in the video and pretty smooth with the occasional stutter and a slowdown on1000 fish but not by much. IE9 must be a fix! I have an ATI Radeon 4870x2 which probably helped the browser a lot but there was no stutter or slowdown and the thing handled the rendering amazingly. I can't believe that Firefox and Chrome would show such poor results on their own benchmarking tests

  • anything microsoft is shit nowdays..

  • This doesn't prove much. Check your CPU and GPU usage when doing these tests, neither are maxed. If you notice your hard drive light, it's not blinking too much, which further condemns the test as....

    RIGGED

  • that's interesting. On my computer I compared IE9 and Chrome with 160 fishes.

Chrome was running with 11-12 fps, whereas IE9 got 2-3 fps.

For a true test you shouldn't run them side by side though.

  • ie . microsoft . com/testdrive/Performance/FishIETank/Default . html

  • plz help me when i get started with html5 on youtube videos run very slow any solution for this plz tell me on my channel

  • Lets be honest here, IE9 IS BETTER.

    Serious, no joke.

  • @downloadssquad hey i got a problem whit the ie9 once i go to serval vids or i play a game named runescape it kinda says: it has a problem whit the web page and bring me back to a previouse page :(

  • Comment removed

  • Why does people mention Chrome? Firefox has WAY more themes than all others, also it has WAY more addons than all others.

Also I love how IE people compare default Firefox to IE. If you REALLY want to compare the two, how about how on Firefox i can use Adblock Plus, No Script, and Greasemonkey?

IE is for microsoft fanboys, Chrome is for teens. Anyone who is remotely versed in computer tech knows that Firefox with addons > All others.

  • @peterpanmannnn That is an unfair comparison, either stock for both or modded for both.

  • @enemy2k10 Um, I was comparing modded for both. The problem with IE and Chrome is that they really have no mod market when compared to Firefox's giant addon and plugin base. Their addon/plugin market is a joke.

  • Comment removed

  • Btw, the scrolling is kinda choppy sometimes on IE9 beta. I hope this gets fixed.

  • The speed is no joke though. I just downloaded IE9 beta and have got to say its extremely fast. But, Chrome is more productive for me. Paste and search button, etc. Firefox is mehh. I've recently started to use CHrome because it was so slow when managing multiple tabs.

  • IE never beats Firefox. FIrefox never beats Chrome ;)

    Windows never beat Linux ;)

  • Im glad microsoft is finally taking IE serious. IE 8 was a failure but with IE 9 they seem to get back on the track.

  • I wanna know, this test has side by side. This could mean that you ran the test on two monitors and not independently. If your resources are already being drawn in by IE (which is integrated into windows already) then your robbing resources from Chrome which pretty much guarantees horrible results from Chrome. In essence you set Chrome up to fail before you even gave it a chance. You - 0 Google - 1

  • Chrome 8 with web kit and default setting

I bet u that IE can never beat this1!!!

  • IE9 cant beat Chrome because IE9 dun have Webkit...Chrome have webkit....IE9 cant beat chrome ^^

  • @katsumi467 No websites use webkit, so what's so special about that ^^?

  • lol ya....push IE9 against the canary build of Chrome....say good bye microsoft

  • google chrome now has hardware acceleration a test I did chrome got 1 frame per second less then ie9 on this test but ie9 has faster hardware acceleration still.

  • IE9 rocks. Chrome sucks for me. I will never use any other browser after seeing IE9. Note to beta users: You can access the test drive page on ie(.)microsoft(.)com/testdrive/.

  • LOL@ the MSFT jealousy in here. People still aren't over MSFT world domination of the desktop market? OS X geeks are like the cockroaches of the internet.

  • 45 Google employes saw this video.

  • The MSIE 9 beta breaks Symantec Endpoint (it stops getting updates)....

It should not be installed on machines that use it.

  • If you have onboard video this will probably suck in IE9 too, which makes the demo useless.

If they would fix their PITA broken UI, I might consider using it. I could probably get used to the mess Microsoft made of the UI starting in MSIE7, but why should I lose productivity while doing so when every other browser provides me a better experience???

Menus go on the top (there's a registry hack that fixes this, but still...). Words are definitive, icons are often ambiguous to many people.

  • You should also try Chrome Nightly instead of old Chrome builds

  • Again a MS test is always going to be faster in a MS browser. You are only fooling the fools here ppl.

  • i get 20 fish @ 35fps on crome, 20 fish @ 60fps on IE9. IE9 also loads up blazing fast. on the downside, i'm having some issues loading certain sites on IE9 which i'm hoping is fixed up by the official release

  • lol... totally biased

admit it the IE 9 UI is copied from the Google Chrome UI and Google has been using HTML5 for the past 2 years...

    please watch Google I/O

  • @bLumeTrit04

and google copied it from the chromium project and rebadged it... big deal. There are more differences between IE9 and chrome under the hood.

  • and again this website is made by Microsoft:) happy fooling your customers

  • @kevintje2 I totally agree...

  • @kevintje2 lol All it's trying to say, is that with anything that includes Silverlight or Flash, will run quickly.

  • @kevintje2 Says the guy who never noticed the most recent IE 9 platform preview is faster than Chrome? Yes, javascript.

  • @kevintje2 Btw, it's not made to "see fishy's all day long", this is just a test. Why do I even care about it, it's just a childish argument..

  • @Coi1221

yes why do you even care about it?

  • @kevintje2 You are forgetting Chrome is complete shit. Firefox is the best.

  • @ToXiK97 yeah..chrome crash a lot when the cache is too much

  • @kevintje2 Opera > Everything.

  • @kevintje2

    Hardware Acceleration you fucktard...

  • @kevintje2 Three minutes? Try instant.

  • The truth hurts guys, Internet Explorer 9 FTW. when Microsoft make the IE better than others, people say this video is made by MS or they say this is fake HAHA, they always have to say something, PS: IE9 has better FPS than Chrome, wow get OWN lol

  • Why didn't you add a link to the test in the description area (below the video)?

  • @flintbrenick

    ie(dot)microsoft(com)/testdrive

  • @flintbrenick Because it's not hard to find it.

  • @flintbrenick It's called FishIE

  • What is the point of this test. Sure, good job there, but the speed that counts is the speed to show websites lol.

For this kind of stuff there is java already....

  • microsoft is obivously making the website turn more on internet explorer 9

  • i read on geek.com that ie9 wont be on XP because of lack of dx 10 :S wtf i got dx10 on my pc and its running XP im going to try ie9 anyway

  • Is this test biased? So it detects whether your using IE9 and does it properly, but if your using another browser it doesnt?

  • Comment removed

  • a Browser is only for Playing?

    This Test is Sooo Stupid!!!!

  • MICROSOFT SUCKS!

  • FAIL

dont use tests that are made by microsoft -.-'

  • @rooopppi These tests are open source, meaning that they have to be fair or else Mozilla and Google would call them out on it.

  • idk but this new IE9 is quite fast i was fan of chrome and firefox. We al know that fanboys wil stay behind there browser when its obvious that IE9 is very nice.It loads faster than chrome im quite suprised from MS.

  • Very Microsoft thing. Take something simple and make it complicated. What on earth one wants to prove by showing graphics capabilities when on internet, serious issues for IE are related to security and holes than playing fishtank like tests? I wish of getting a computer without IE and preferably without any of MS product... Damn, it is so hard to get an empty laptop without MS crap...

  • @Munujar

    1. Microsofts 3 E's didn't work with HWA. But this was what they intended to use it for. Thing is, it can be easily copied, therefore is not MS/Win-specific enough. Now they hope webmasters will use ugly Win7-only Meta-statements instead.

    2. Yes, IE has security holes, those of interest are, among others, ActiveX, because they are IE-only.

    3. I use Linux Mint with XP Theme. No MS software. No MS specific virus.

    4. Yes. We have the same problems in my country. MS is everywhere.

  • @ytvoice1 Thanks for your kind reply. It is nice to hear your point of view. I been working with Ubuntu etc but as my laptop and pc both are equipped with MS programs, I can not remove them completely as I have paid quite big price of those softwares, even though they came through re-seller.

  • lol nice strawman, I almost bought it until I realized it's chromium 6. 7 introduces gpu acceleration.

  • do firefox 4 vs internet explorer 9

  • @pvrrthebest It was not an answer for you. If there is an @name first in the message, like in this message, it is primarily meant for that user, not for all.

  • i dont realy like the look of it , but on my computer it is faster loading webpages then chrome

  • @pvrrthebest lol the firefox fanboyism is strong in you. windows isn't the only platform opera runs on, using the hosts file would be plain dumb. content blocking and ad block lists surpass editing some hidden, os specific file.

  • @pvrrthebest

i mean power user, not everyday user...

  • so sad that the browser war is turning into a religious war on the user side :(

  • As far as I know Chrome's HTML5 is half baked sure it will be improved, but it good to see that those people who don't know there are other browsers will finally get a good experience.

And all you tawty geeks saying this is a bad test. Get back to your Linux and shut up.

  • OPERA SUPREMACY

  • What a crap test. You test is just showing which browser is doing hardware 3d integration. It wont be long before Mozilla base browsers take advantage of the moves from ATI and Nvidia.

  • chrome 6 cant handle hardware acceleration.. try comparing to firefox 4 dude

  • @tovarich122 firefox has so many crashes man

  • Dear Microsoft, yeah we still don't give a shit. At least Chrome didn't fk up as badly as IE6.

  • But does it blend!?

  • IE(9) is going to have some of the same features that google chrome already has. The text on the web pg supported the hints provided by the video that microsft will "chromify" IE 9.0's interface by mimicking Google's browser's UI. PS: IE(9) only going to be available for win vista and windows 7 NO XP!!!!!!! AND THE !ST READ BETA VERSION IS DUE IN SEPTEMBER , 17, 2010! AND THE BROWSER WILL SHIP IN APRIL 2011.

  • @TGSaviorSelf Oh yea Definetly, i will also test IE 9 they need to step up their game, i'd say as a chrome user, the other browsers arent really a match in terms of speed, I'd say if IE9 surpasses the speed and rendering level of HTML that google chrome can do i might use it,...maybe, in my opinion chrome has everything i need , its lightweight, its fast, it loads html preety smoothly and has the extensions i need.

  • @TGSaviorSelf Very True ,, The thing about IE is that most people think its the only option they have to browse the internet, most people are also scared to download other browsers such as Chrome or even Firefox, as of now IE still dominates the Web Browser market and as Microsoft keeps releasing new versions of IE with better improvements than the previous versions the average joe is going to be satisfied and continue to use IE for the internet, thus making IE still the most popular web browser

  • What is that fish test ?

  • 5: Microsoft can sit back and wait happily untill 2018 to release IE10. Funny enough the exact same time they have the new Windows ready. AND IE9 will not be supported on this new operating system.

    6. Goto 1

  • @ytvoice1 IE(9) is going to have some of the same features that google chrome already has.

  • @Bigchriztian01

IE9 is not supported on XP

IE10 will not be supported on Vista and 7.

This is how it works. It is not the browser, MS care about, in fact they couldnt care less about it. It is the OS that people have to buy to use it. And what follows that - Office and so on.

Now they steal the UI from Google?

Thought they said, Open Source is communism???

But they have no moral to steal from them anyways... pathetic.

  • @ytvoice1 Im sure that's your opinion but to be quite honest they should of killed windows xp support for programs along time ago. it's time to move on because xp has been supported for a very long time. IE 10 will be on 7 because microsoft won't make another OS for years now but i dont really care because im on 7 so for all i care they could stop support for vista aswell. I hope your not on xp because if you are it's probablly a jealous comment.

  • @ENgLiiSh360GaMeR I am not on XP. I am on Linux Mint. I have the XP theme, though, because XP was a pretty goood system, when it comes to usability. But I am not bound to MS now, I am not bound by an in built faulty browser with 8 years old security holes (and BTW I probably go for the new Mint, which is NOT Ubuntu - seems very interesting).

  • @ENgLiiSh360GaMeR Ehm.. Guess, what I wanted to say was... shifting OS is free for me - not for Win-users ;)

  • @ENgLiiSh360GaMeR Win 7 ftw!

  • What will happen is:

    1. Microsoft releases IE9 and everyone goes crazy

    2. After half a year, every other browser have HW-support, and IE is still the slowest, most irritating piece of shit lousy insecure and not user friendly brwoser, it has allways been.

    3. People realize that the world has not changed because of IE. Webmasters have to take care of other than IE-users. But now it is too late, they have allready paid for it.

    4. Microsoft is happy.

  • @ytvoice1

    I am a web developer.

And with certain issues, IE can be a pain the a** to develop for.

BUT, so can FF and Chrome as well as Opera and others.

Each browser brings on its on little crap querks that we have to deal with.

But, I deal with it, because I am hear to support all that venture to my domain's.

It is a continues job, and if it is too much for the average person to deal with, then do not become a developer, and continue just complaining about it instead, it is easier.

  • @ytvoice1 It is only taking a month for hardware support (Firefox and Chrome have it in testing), not half a year. =)

  • I have had viruses three times, all times via IE, only the lfirst was my own fault.

I have been saved by Chromes antiphising on the other hand.

Then they buil this horribly insecure IE in the OS. And they cannot remove ActiveX.

It's so f** embarrasing. They must have the worst coders in the world.

  • How about IE7 and IE8?

If youre a webmaster, you surdenly do not want to leave them out, and a lot of other things can be made via fallback, but not speed gained via GPU, this MS has killed, because they do not support XP for IE9. ..IE7 and IE8 cannot upgrade.

So... when I make a homepage, if I want to be sure the time is the same, I can either do not use this "plugin", which makes it pretty useless, otr just telll them, "This page is best viewed with IE9"? Remember 1998?

  • So... the HW accelerartion takes so much power, you can not do anything else - or?

  • Don't forget IE9 doesn't support webgl.

  • @Ormaaj

Well... it costs money too. Which simply keeps amazing me people do not realize.. But anyways, they pay for something worse than what I can have for free, that is theiir problem.

  • @ytvoice1 What costs money? webgl? Opengl ES is open and royalty-free. This is just accelerating 2D graphics using DirectX. I managed to make Chrome 7 perform quite well on this test with a few modifications to compile with flto and a few other optimizations. I have a feeling the test could be improved too... Hardware acceleration should be unnecessary for something this simple.

Chrome also has better support for CSS transforms which can produce even smoother results.

  • @Ormaaj

No, I meant IE costs money. When I discuss this with others, people allways keep saying IE is free. Well last time I used it, I had to pay for windows.

I don't know ehy I should pay for something that is worse than what I can get for free.

IE is the worst browser I have ever tried. It's insecure, it's slow and it's a pain in the ass with usability. It will not change with IE9. Remember it's only beta. Or is it Beta yet?

  • These tests are total fail, using a mod to allow Firefox to register itself as IE massivly improves its scores for example. FUD FUD FUD

  • tons of google fanboys in these comments.

  • nah its a lie ie can never beat google chrome.

  • oh yeah sure, great choice of benchmark you got there. fair test is fair.

  • i still don't give a flying fuck

if ie 9 will be faster than firefox i will still be using firefox

ie was shit and will always be SHIT

  • Wait, why not try a test that is not made by Microsoft?

  • This made me laugh lol

The highest rated comments shine the truth on all of this haha

    IE in general FTL

  • Not chrome 6. Chrome 6 consolidated the page and settings drop down icons into one menu.

  • I'm watching this in WebM

  • Can you please do a brutal calculation, a test that do not require special hardware or OS to be run, a Javascript speed test will be cool

it good to see IE9 will use much more Hardware acceleration then older IE. I just hope for IE fan that other browser do not start getting help on rendering with CUDA implementation that will work good cross platform.

  • LOL this test is ridiculous, it only shows that IE9 uses windows' hardware acceleration more efficiently than other browsers, which is to be expected.

IE9 uses DirectX, while other browsers have integrated support for graphics (which enables them to be cross-platform).

Without DirectX, IEs couldn't even render a png with transparency correctly... plus, i dont know for IE9, but up to IE8 it still was impossible to put 2 transparency effect on 1 element, while all other browsers can.

  • @FukEduP72 Actually its far from rediculous. At the end I want the browser who runs the smoothest minimizing the usage of CPU. If Crome and/or firefox wants to sacrifce speed to support multiple platforms that's fine, but most of us use windows anyway so I will definatly go for the fastest browser. Thats why im using Opera now, but this might change when IE9 comes out.

  • @FukEduP72 directX is microsoft's...IE+directX >>> chrome

  • @FukEduP72 True!

  • @FukEduP72

Seems like a short cut for me, instead of focusing on the real problems about IE.

Inside, IE is still shit and messy code, and this doesnt change it.

  • @FukEduP72 Windows uses directx, and so does any other program running on Windows, Windows does not use OpenGL so basically what i'm saying is, is that you're wrong. You can't run a exe program on a Mac or Linux(natively) they specifically make each program for each OS not one program for all OS's.

  • @FukEduP72 WTF?

  • @FukEduP72

Wrong retard as explained in another vid.

You are to be a Troll and what you are saying is wrong. Sadly you have 23 thumbs up by people who takes this info as facts. IE wins because of GPU acceleration yes, which is to come in Opera and Chrome

  • @FukEduP72 So....you're saying that IE9 is worse because it uses better technology?

  • @FukEduP72 soooo that makes IE9 faster? for now at least....

  • @FukEduP72

this is the truth, don't talk bullshits now! we are in 21 century

  • @FukEduP72 That sounded smart

  • My take....

I'm glad IE/MS is FINALLY bringing something to the table, but remember, this never would have happened if FF/Chrome hadn't pushed them. You would still be stuck on an a ancient insecure version of IE6.

Now, that being said, what doesn't impress me is that MS is having to fall to hardware acceleration in order to compete with what Chrome has done in software. Wait until Chrome supports HW Accel, and they apply their tight optimized code... IE will be in the back seat again....

  • @SgtDmurphy Remember Chrome is the 1st web browser, and MS have to release multiple IE to be able to reach to Chrome, I don't what happen if Google start release a new chrome, IE will be behind again lol

  • @HeavensTrance

    > Chrome is the 1st web browser

    No it isn't! That's Mosaic!
