Ive enjoyed making the rug the way you taught me. The larger the rug gets the looser the weve, how do you compensate for the large spaces? or is is best just to stick with smaller rugs?

Do you need to "increase" as you go around for any reason? I have started, but it seems to be bunching into a hump, not lying flat. I am afraid I will end up with a bowl instead of a flat rug.
you could probly also use a twizzers for a tool couldnet you? tape the open ends together? thank you so much for the tutorial. the way i have been trying to make a rag rug is a lot more difficult than this; this will be less time consuming. it is so nice to be able to make house hold items from things you would normally pitch and not spend a dime. its gives a home a nice warm feel to it too. during this economic time i have been finding innovative ways to make things that i would like.
How to make a tool. Use a large paper clip or a piece of wire and electrical tape. Bend clip and put ends together and tape. You can also use a toothbrush. Cut the brush off. Drill a hole near the end. Use sand paper to file to a point. Add your fabric.
I can't thank you enough for making these videos! I am so psyched to make my own rug. I wish that I knew a little more about your tool, but I think I can make something similar. Laura... thanks so much for the clear instructions.

Great video, I've read directions on how to do rag rugs and I always got lost, but you make it look so easy. I also knit, crochet, machine knit and I'm just starting to weave (actual weaving material-not about to fall down), and now I want to try my hand at this! Gosh whats a guy to do, to many fun thing on here!
Great video! I've been searching for instructions to make a rag rug. The other youtubies' instructions seem very hard in comparison to yours. Aiming to make one with denim strips, hope they turn out half as good as yours.
My advise to others now that I`ve finished my 1st. 1)Do it spread out on a flat surface. I did mine holding it in my lap so when I finally spread it on the floor was a little unshapely which could have been prevented if I`d been doing it on a flat surface watching as I went along. 2) It may sound obvious but I just started cutting material & going w/out thinking of color coordination which I quickly realized my mistake so I recommend color coordinating before starting.
I made my 1st rag rug w/your instructions. Thk you! It was so easy & I feel so proud of mine but when I see yours mine doesn`t compare. My stitches aren`t as uniform & the rug shape isn`t as perfect as yours but it`s my 1st so I`ll give myself a break! For those asking about the tool, I had a small toothbrush w/a hole in it & easily bent off the bristle part w/my hand so my rug didn`t cost me a cent & I had 0 problems w/the toothbrush.
Your videos are to the easiest for me to follow. Could you make a video to show how to make a square/rectangular toothbrush rag rug, if you know the trick to making them? Thanks!
from what i can see in the video, the "tool" is a safety pin that has red masking tape on the end without the pin, so that she can fasten the end of the fabric to the safety pin on the pin side and feed it through the rug with the dull side.
Saw this video linked by Youtube on one of mine. So glad to see someone else is keeping this craft alive, and posting about it. Wonderful work you do!
Wonderful video -- I wouldn't attempt this without your thoughtful instructions. I cannot find the "tool" you are using. Can you help me with this, please?
Could you put extra knots in the hole at the ends when you're starting a new rug, to make them bunch less?
