  • Hey you wouldn't happen to know when the new FDNY ladders are coming in? I know that Ferrara got the contract, but I don't know any more than that.

  • where is that...where is the rig is it the repair shop?

  • @dangerjp the fdny shops "Da Shops"

  • it is a seagrave manufacturer

  • Yes, that was built by Seagrave Fire Apparatus.

  • i dont like the bigger cabs

  • Yeah i like it!!! I wanna join the FDNY and i would love to be on a rig like that!

  • the tool bin inside the truck is an great idea..... i bet power windows in a fire truck ROCK!! our engines still got manual windows and we bought it in 2006..... the MDT thing is cool..... the stop sign on the door is really smart!!!!

  • where was this?????

  • fdny city shop

  • sharp rig

  • An FDNY Squad company is a specialized company trained for pretty much anything. They are HAZMAT and Rescue specialists but also can function as an Engine or Truck company on the fireground.

  • Correct Wranadu. FDNY specs the lights for their rigs. When you buy the quantities they do, you get what you want.

  • im from cali. and a squad for us out here is a f-450 truck used for medical or rescue. whats a squad mean for FDNY they all look like small engines.

  • The lightbars are LEDs and rotators combinated ?

  • yes

  • does seagrave make them?

  • Yes Seagraves makes all Engines and Ladders for the FDNY

  • Its about time NYFD got nice rigs

  • i liked the older rigs i like the flat top design but they do still look sharp

  • The best part of the truck is the FDNY patches on the seats.

  • Yes,Engine Company= Officer, Chauffer, Nozzle, Back-up, Door, Control Truck Company= Officer, Chauffer, Roof, OVM (outside vent man ), Irons, Can

  • it depends, most engines have 4 on them and the squads have 6 and trucks have 6 and rescue normaly have 7 on

  • I listed My firehouses manning. I didn't include the Rescues or the Squads. I gave him the simplest and most inclusive answer I could. He asked what the manning on my Engine company was. I just added the truck since I am in the truck and assumed that may be the next Question.

  • oh ok....i understand..thought he was asking for fdny's manning...

    be safe

    Vlaup

  • Thanks for reminding me how much I wish Boston had these.

What is the staffing on your engines, 4 plus the officer?

  • Nothing but the best for FDNY-Seagrave RULEZ!!!

  • What is the diamond plate box on the roof for? Is that an A/C unit or storage?

  • it is storage. on our rig we put things that are not used that frequently up there.

  • what is an MDT?

  • An MST is a multi data terminal.... Its a computer screen that tells us who what and where we are going... I.E.

  • i love how seagrave incorporated the old rotating lights with the new LED lights, great combination

  • Seagrave have nothing to do with the design of the lights.

  • its a fdny spec. not a seagrave design

  • i love the new engines....alot more spacious, and i love the raised roofs...fdny really deserves the best that seagrave can offer

  • Maybe I'm Gay... Got a problem with that Mary Apple bag

  • no pierces i guess

  • i cant wait untill 2011 so i could ride these

  • What were you guys doin there...getting the rig worked on?

  • Hey Dan, our Rig had a major hydraulic line failure on the chauffeur side out rigger. So we brought it to the shops at mid-night to get the line replaced. While we were there I saw E-39s new rig and I had my camera with me so there you go !

  • OOO i see ... Thats a nice truck.... Hope to see you guys soon!!

  • with all the equipment the FDNY engines carry, it always make me laugh that so many of the engines carry hard suction hoses for drafting. Where would they draft from? Im sure they are not used on such a regular basis that they would need to be carried on so many engines. Oh well.

  • Although we rarely use the hard suction for drafting, The Bronx is the only borough that is not an Island or on an Island. I guess if there was ever an interruption in the water supply a critic could say " how come a city surrounded by water and with rivers running through it not have the capability to draft. " I'm coming up on 19 years and I've only seen one engine draft. So go figure.

  • you need to take a look at at a map and notice that the city has a good handfull of rivers throughout, drafting was used on 9/11. and i know you feds dont draft all that often either and you carry them on every pumper. cant tell me different, i was a fed for 3 yrs. you have to expect the unexpected.

  • I know there are rivers, and the entire city is surrounded by water. Thanks. Along with drafting on 9/11 fireboats were being used to pump water on shore. But my question was why do SO MANY of the engines carry hard suction? So much more equipment could be carried on the upper half of the truck, rather than two sections of hose rarely-if ever used. And being Federal, I have drafted more on the bases I was at, than most other departments. Mutual Aids, wildlands.

  • If they needed more equipment space, rigs would be spec'd accordingly, but they don't. The Sq. company rigs have double high sides, and the 1988+1989 Mack-CF/Ward-79 engines had the high sides, and they apparently did not need the extra space.

  • I think if they're having to store equipment on top of the cab roof in that chequer plate box then there is an issue with sufficient storage. In an easily street accessibe compartment would be better.

  • ISO Marks points for being or not being able to draft...unsure if it has to be on the rig but ISO has something to do with the hard suction too

  • I understand ISO, but ISO covers also so many other aspects of the fire departments service, such as response times, distances, hydrants and water supply. Surely, FDNY doesnt need to carry Hard Suction on every engine to achieve a high score and low ISO rating. Maybe every 3rd or 5th engine...carry the hose.

  • its a NFPA requirement

  • nfpa is a GUIDE LINE and not the law of the land. fdny does not comply with nfpa

  • yup
