I have a 2000 VW Jetta, I heard that you have to keep power to the car at all times when you're changing the battery otherwise the radio will go into safe mode, yet I don't see you doing that here...any advice?
"I just could not stop laughing at the number of steps needed to remove the battery. We need to get the engineer responsible for that design and hang him upside down and make pinata out of him."
You are correct sir! What they (VW) want is to make it SO complicated under the hood that owners feel intimidated by basic maint. and will be inclinced to take their cars to the WILDLY OVERPRICED VW service centers.
i lost the battery hold clamp while installing a new batter on my 2007 jetta wolfsburg edition ... and the new battery is way bigger than the OEM battery so now i can't close the little batter case thing ...
@ockap00 I went through the same thing.Bought the battery by what the book said and it was too wide.Best thing to do is what i did and that is to measure the old one and find one to match regardless of numbers.

Reminds me of when my dad was trying to get the battery out of his car once. He's an older fellow, never owned a modern car (2000 or up) before that one, and after a while of messing with all the plastic and stuff they surrounded the battery with, he ended up pulling it all out and throwing it away. Still makes me laugh.
I bet its easier to install a cold air intake than changing a battery on a jetta LOL Nice video Rich very instructional. By the way I got a VW Passat lying at my house and want to fix it. It runs but need help. The oil pressure light comes on what could it be and was wondering how do you know if it has the turbo on it. The eninge is a 1.8T but i dont think he took the turbo out. Would it run without the turbo. I dont thinks so right? Thanks. My passat needs a lot of work done LOL
@bluebladex3 Two things that can give you a oil pressure drop is the pump and bearings. The turbo will be part of the exhaust system near the manifold.
WOOOOOW All that for one battery seriously sheesh man i can open my computer faster than getting the battery out of the jetta. Seriously what are you gonna do when you in the middle of the road stranded dead battery. Go to autozone that is a block away come back and remember crap chaning the battery on my jetta is as hard as solving a rubiks cube. Then to make matters worse it is night time. Yeah good luck having every single tool neccesary for taking that one battery out ROFL
Thanks for the video Rich. As always, you're such a great teacher and mentor for people like me that want to learn about automotives. I appreciate what you do.
Hi Rich. In the Haynes manual they say something about having to put in the code for the radio so that the anti-theft program is reset. Can you comment on that?
@spelunkerd I am aware of some cars were the radio will stop working when the battery is disconnected. In this case did not have the time to check that the radio was working.I will keep you apprised of any information if the radio needs to be reset.
thanks a lot!!! you got me through the battery change.

@vpinto89 There are some cars like that in which case you need a special code that came with the car to activate the radio.

Leave it to the Germans to make something simple like removing a battery more difficult than it needs to be.
