in my opinion i have a 1999 miata i think it looks better then the new one and it's odvious the older ones are lower to the ground then the new and i think they are sportier looking the new ones have know curves i like the first generation with the hidden headlights much better then the new and the second generation like i have the new ones in my opinion they messed them up maybe americans are designing them because thumbs down know offense i do own a chevy and it's great
Looking for new tires. I have dunlops and there terrible, very noisy and slippery in the wet. Anyone tried Hankook silica tyres on there NB MX5? I've heard there fantastic.
Have to say, comparing a car with torque-sensing limited slip diff to one without it, on a track, in the rain is technically apples to oranges. And, with the all-season rubber on the new one, this is hardly a fair analysis.
Simply option your MX-5 with the LSD -- It's leagues better than the old one.
Maybe its the rubber i have on mine...but in my NB it is very easy to lose the back end in the wet. Have not swapped ends but you can feel a full spin is just a boot full of throttle away
I had a older Miata. That car was so easy to drive hard, you had to do something truly stupid to loose it, even in the rain. Sad to see that the new one sux, you can see in the video it has way too much body roll :(
I pretty much had the same feelings about my MX-5. Swapping ends in the car was much to easy on the stock rubber and the tall suspension didn't inspire confidence. Switching to Ohlins suspension and wider wheels changed the MX-5 from a bit of a dog into a mean street machine.
Thanks for posting these videos. I have a MX5NC with same Michelin tyres that they are testing. I have noticed that Mazda now fit Bridgestone Potenza RE050A's as standard - maybe they saw this video?!!!
NC is a big improvement over the old models in every way... more room inside too.

This test proves absolutely NOTHING!
The Tires are WRONG for those conditions.
The NC MX-5 in reality is FAR better and looks 100 times better to boot. Owners of older versions don't like to admit it.

It's the suspension. The car needs a better suspension system.

@dustziggy yea get different tires. You should have to really try to get the tail out on that car, even in the rain.

The NC is great i have one and it handles well out of the box. That is why it has received praise internationally!

It doesn't suck. It just has MORE power, so if you don't know what you're doing you can get into problems...

Bridgestone Potenza RE050A is high performance summer tire. They will perform poor in wet floor.
They should re-test the new NC in a dry condition again to give proper rating.

proper rating can be rate at all condition
