i have one of theese units a while now.im a dj and was wondering which lights ie input/low cut lights should be lighting when in use....i connect my crown xti4000 into equilizer then my pioneer djm500 ixer into equilizer outputs..normally then just come out of my amp via speakon to bins then from bins to tops
@djstaffy I keep the low cut on (saves your woofers from damaging frequencies that most subs cant hit), the Range button is always off, for more sensitivity to moving each EQ band, and i keep the FBQ on to see what frequencies im driving the hardest (good for vocals and feedback too, as it was designed to show you this) AND last but not least the In/Out button is on, which makes it so you are EQ-ing you're signal. Oh and you said you connect your amp to the input and the mixer tot he output?
This is probably a dumb question, but If i bought this, could i plug my guitar straight into one of the inputs, and go from one of the outputs into my amp. I just need an equalizer for my guitar for live shows.
@BrettG987 you could in fact do that, and if you ever needed to you could use the other channel for something completely diffrent, as the channels are independent
@BrettG987 going fro your guitar to this unit you will need a 1/4 in to 1/4 in instrument cable, and from the EQ to an amp you can use the same type of cable, so yes its safe
Please help, if i use input and outputs via PHONO connector, can i still cut off frequencies going to my sub, etc i dont want any lower than 80hz going to my subwoofer, can this still do that without using XLR's because i dont want to use XLR's thank you.
@DynamikT you can but you have to use at least one XLR connector for the sub out, as thats the only output choice for it, theres really no other option. just go find a 6$ or your equivalent male XLR connector and slap it on your cable
@kloug2006 Well pretty much all three questions you asked all depend on the quality and level of the audio output on your card. for a normal card, 80% should be just fine, as for sound being introduced...it depends on your card. my internal sound makes a slight noise but if i use a PCI card it goes away completely. for question 3, if theres already heavy boost in the mixer ony uor computer, there will be heavy distortion. but for a realatively flat signal you should be able to boost the 20-40Hz
@codemsan I've just received my HA4700 headphone amp today. I tried every fonctions and connections, and everything works fine. The quality of fit and finish is good. The sound is correct and the power is high enough to drive my high impedance headphone to amazing listening levels. I can plug up to 12 pairs of headphones, through the 4 independant power amps.
@codemsan BUT, there is a “hum” noise in the audio signal, clearly audible even when all the control levels are lowered and no cables connected. I’m a little disappointed. But I’m aware that I’m getting what I paid for, and I accept that. I’m surprised though, because my Samsung HT receiver’s headphone output is doing much better than the HA4700, with no noise at all.
@codemsan I’m OK with this amp for the price paid, but it’s in no way an audiophile grade component. Now, I really doubt that adding a FBQ1502 would be a good idea, since it would certainly add a little more noise to the chain.
@kloug2006 but i never claimed that these were audiophile grade components. there for DJ audio, and thats really it. and that hum doesnt appear in my system, so i think you need a filter
@kloug2006 should be able to boost the 20-40Hz without distortion...but again all of this depends on the sound coming out of your computer...not on the EQ
Thanks for this video! I bought the Behringer HA4700 headphone amp online and will receive it very soon. I'm not in professional audio at all, it's just for private listening at home and I have a few very good headphones to drive. I also want to buy this EQ because it's exactly the same design as the HA4700, and, as I can see in your video, it looks awesome. I have to confess that I LOVE the look of professional components, that's why I don't buy overpriced and overrated audiophile components.
@kloug2006 Yeah most most components you just put on a shelf are both overpriced and underbuilt. for just about the same amount of money you could spend on a Home audio setup, you could get a system that will last longer, be louder, withstand more abuse, and be WAY more flexible in the sense of what components you wanna add!
Im planning to get this eq, but i would like to ask about the mono subwoofer output. The subwoofer i have now comes with two XLR inputs for Left and Right channels, but from this eq, there is only one XLR for the subwoofer. So what i want to know is does the output from that mono XLR contain signal from left and right channel? If yes that means i just need a splitter to do the job right? Im still very new to all this PA equipments haha so bare with me. TIA
@mypillowtalks XLR cables and connectors only carry a balanced mono signal, so there is only one output on this eq. now, with your sub...im guessing its powered, you should be able to just run one cable from the mono sub out on the EQ to the woofers left channel, and still get a signal. if the signal is pretty weak you can try using a splitter to run the mono signal into both left and right of the sub, so that one cable is driving both left AND right.
@codemsan but again, it depends on your sub. and the mono sub out on the EQ samples the low freq. from both channel 1 and 2, so you might want to run your system mono on channel one, and use channel two as a sort of adjustment for the volume of the sub, but it all depends on how your system works.
@codemsan Hmm ok i get what you mean! Thanks a lot for the reply. I have bought the same equaliser today, and would make a video of it with my system when im free. Thanks again!
I have a mono system for my electric guitar. Rather than using this in stereo, can I use this as two separate equalizers? I would like to pass through the equalizer before my special effects pedals, and then again after.
the only thing that is lame about the "dedicated sub out" is that it just filters the subs and not the top cabs so u have low frequencies coming through the top cabs.
one thing i would like to point out is that the correct way to set this is with an RTA. most people buy these not knowing what that is so i was just wondering if u were aware.
but nice review, and idk if i mentioned but i have one of these haha
@FreezEntertainment i knew boost but attenutation is also correct terminology for lower the Db of a certain frequecy or the gain all together. and yeah that is kinda a bummer that it doesnt allow you to cut the low end from yout tops. i usually set it by ear for what sounds good, i dont bother with a real time analyzer. i know what pristine audio sounds like : )
well an RTA like Smaart Live, which the trial version can be downloaded from EAW (or full version via torrent dl, but u know thats illegal and what not ;), is nice to play with because you can get a graphic prospective of the sound your system is producing which can help you understand sound reinforcement better.
i know this is probably far beyond ur interest but im a sound engineer so i just wanted to let u in on that. you need a mic with linear response anyway...
@FreezEntertainment oh btw, not to start an argument or be argumentative, but to attenuate more specifically refers to something on a scale of 0-100 % power. for example, your amp has attenuators as it naturally produces 200W/ch at 8 ohms (i believe). well you cant "boost" the power, u can just reduce it. just like a lamp dimmer.
a GEQ is able to increase or decrease freqs, although it is frowned upon to increase freqs.
haha sorry for spamming ur page with these large comments. hope it helped
@FreezEntertainment i understand sound reinforcment enough to know how to make your audio sound just right in diffrent situations, and im happy with that lol
@SixKrt run a patch cable (1/4 in or XLR) from your mixer to the EQ in, then from the out on the EQ, connect the cables that you would normally use to go STRAIGHT to the mixer.
@codemsan oh yeah sorry i messaged you when i was half asleep lol. i meant that all you need to do is put it in the line between your mixer and PA speakers. so from the mixer to the EQ, from the EQ to the speakers
@chinchonchinchon you would need adaptors to go from 3.5mm (headphone size, like on your ipod) to 1/4 (the bigger headphone looking one) you can find adaptors like that almost anywhere...so yes you could if you wanted to.
Wow with all that dj techno stuff you got even if you suck at DJ this stuff will make you sound like BOOM! Lol but you probably dont suck anyways lol...

@Rville16 you could use it to cut out certain frequencies that are causing noise but id recommend an effects pedal or something for that.

Hi codesman, I have a few questions before buying.
1- If I connect this EQ to my PC soundcard output, what is the preferred volume setting in Windows (50% - 100%)?
2- Is there noise introduced in the audio signal when using this EQ?
3- If you set the 20Hz and 40Hz bands at, say, +6dB and more, is there distortion?
Thanks!

kloug2006 1 year ago
@kloug2006 such as a line noise filter, either on the power end or on the outup of the EQ that is making noise
codemsan 1 year ago
@codemsan Sorry to bother you again, but what a "line noise filter" looks like and where can I buy one? Is it a passive or active component?
As you can see, I'm not expert in pro audio, I'm only used to standard home audio components.
Thanks for the advise!
kloug2006 1 year ago
@kloug2006 usually you can find them by just a simple google search, and usually there passive, although there may be active ones out there.
