I use a Canon SD790is. It's small (easy to hide). I also have a Toshiba h30 video camera to concentrate on time lapse (it also has slow motion with less resolution.
I live in Brooklyn, NY and have shot a time lapse at Pier 1 park near the Brooklyn Bridge and one at South Street seapor in NYC which I thought I posted on You Tube it seems I never got around to it. As soon as I find them I will get back to you.
Do you work at Best Buy? If yest borrow a Canon Rbel for a time lapse ad.
Glad you liked it. I filmed the video with my Nikon Coolpix E8400. The camera was in Movie mode and was setup to take one frame every 60 seconds. Each hour of time is two seconds of video. You are right, it would have looked better if it were slower. Unfortunately the camera has a limit of 1000 frames in time lapse mode so that is why I went with one frame every 60 seconds vs. the slower one frame every 30. I might try the 30 next year. Just have to start at midnight.
Glad you liked it. I shot the video from the 20th floor bathroom window of the hotel we stayed at over Thanksgiving. I have a small “Silk” flexible tripod that works great in tight spaces. We had stayed there over Thanksgiving before so I came prepared.
LOL - I see I'm not the only one to do this :-)

If the time lapse was not so fast it would look great.

Great video Todd! How were you able to get a camera in that location? That is a great shot/angle.
