you could potentially run OSX on that machine, albet very slowly. There's supposidly a way to remove the clockspeed check that osx uses during its install to see if your running on the right speed chip.
That would give you a much better use out of your machine, might be worth the effort.
Many years ago in my school they had Mac LC III machines that could get on the Internet using OS 7.x, LocalTalk, and Netscape. Even back then (~1999) this was very out of date, but since these Macs were in the science lab, you weren't supposed to be using them for web browsing anyway.
I thought iTunes was available before the iPods came out, I say that because I remember in 2000 we had some iMacs in the Media Studies classroom at my high school, the teacher told me he had downloaded some music from the internet and brought it in on Zip disks, the other kids in my class used to play music on the iMacs that was on the hard drive. I didn't do it myself so I don't remember what iTunes looked like or how it worked. I too love the sound scheme that's in Mac OS 8 and 9.
Anyone know any cool diy projects for older computers? I would love to build something useful without spending too much money. (I already did a file server)
I had someone at the IT help desk with one at UNH...they were trying to get a modern version of Flip4Mac to work on it (it was on 10.3.9)...unfortunately there wasnt a version current enough that was compatible with her machine to do what she wanted to do. It browsed the web fairly decently though.
OS X came out in 2000. I found an iBook G3 in the trash, actually 2 of them... One the screen doesn't work, but it can be use with an external display, and the other one, fully working... I upgraded the fully working one with DVD-RW and 100GB. Then installed 10.3 on it along with 9.2.2, anmd believe it or not it can go on the internet, using Airport. In oS9, you're limited to WEP. In 10.3, you can use WPA and WPA2 by updating to the latest airport software.

There should be iTunes for Mac OS 9, as I had a version of iTunes for Mac OS 8, so you should be able to find a older version on Macintosh Garden

169.x.x.x addresses seems to always be assigned when the client can't get an IP address from DHCP.
nickjuly4A 1 year ago
@nickjuly4A This is correct. Restarting the machine solved that problem.

Re itunes, you are forgetting - the original ipod used firewire mainly because apple thought it was 'better'
Sure it was faster tho :)

@agoodm Ah, I definitely did forget! Then again, in those days, I was playing with 68k macs...

I miss the classic Mac OS. Not the crashes or the instability, but the interface.
