i have the same kind of Chiclits they do this mating dance too all the time but never seem to have any fry .... the male must be shooting blanks or something
Ha! Good luck trying to keep these particular african species from trying to kill each other. I wonder what would happen if you let some asian carp from china into the tank? Or even just sell them some bullets?
I agree it is a dominance issue they are circling way too fast I have been raising chiclids for 10 years . They will resolve it if you put more rocks and and tunnels I use bottles old ones that are broken . use the sand to dull the sharpness of the bottles . 1 fish per gallon you can group them the more fish the less issues .
dood dont listen to the guys who say there fighting!!!! its called mating!!!! the male and the female are trying to squeez the sperm out one of them to fertilize the eggs its perfectly normal!!!!!
If your tank is BIG enough sometimes you can get away with mixing Chiclids with peaceful fish.Either way, chiclids are very territorial by nature. What you see as of now is your chiclids attempt to be dominant over eachother. It looks like you only have 2 chiclids. Getting ONE more chiclid of equal or bigger size should even everything out Also Chiclids LOVE rocks/caves Provide each chiclid with its own hidding spot/house.
African chiclids should not be mixed in a community/peaceful tank. The general rule of thumb on chiclids is ONLY keep them with other chiclids.Keep Africans with other Africans, and South Americans with South Americans. You have Africans.
they are trying to bite the tail fins. If you are feeding them fish, bloodworms etc. try pellets it may make them less aggresive. Try a bigger tank. Those fish need their own territory or you will endup with dead fish.
yep they are mating :)

The eggs are carried in the mouth by the parents until they hatch. The African chiclids are mouth-brooders.

They are circling too fast to be mating from my experience. Neither was picking up eggs while spinning. This looks more like a dominance thing to me.
