  • Tony shows are more than just food in Lao he spend time with a man and he's family's who had his leg and arm blown off from American bombs .I hope all Americans see this one !

  • @Apkar1970We all know that history, but lets just be friends Now

  • i watched this because i was laos:)

  • 6 people dislike leaving their own country and learning something new

  • lol "this is khao piak" ..idk it's just funny..(i didn't hear the "k" in piak though..) lmao "seap bo? tam la meh" is it tasty? go fucking ask. ok yeah there's no rude thing in that question but seriously whenever i hear it it just sounds like the adults are kinda annoyed or something..

  • This is about lao food, not who is better then who..Just enjpy the show without getting to ignorant conversations about stuff that doesn't matter. I'm from loas and very proud of it. And I grew up eating everything that is on this episode. Visit there sometime or make a friend and travel to their homes, try the food, never know it might suprise you.

  • when are you going to laos agian? you haven't been to every city of laos yet

  • wow. I actually drooled on the keyboard.

  • I was so excited to see this episode of Laos but when I watched it, I was very disappointed. Every place Anthony went to showcase on his show, I've already seen it on LonelyPlanet when they did a show on Laos. The LonleyPlanet episode on Laos was so much better and more real. But regardless, I was happy that Anthony picked Laos as the premier episode of his new season. That shows that it was his most important and best show of the season. Laos, my love.

  • Sometimes some of the food Tony eats makes me want to throw up.I think I would get ill from all these different foreign foods...ant eggs? yak!

  • @belindabell2 On every video there has to be an american comment about how he wouldn't eat the food. Why watch the show then seriously.

  • At the start, I've been there :)

  • @ManniiPhanphengdy ...and?

  • @belindabell2 nothing :S im just saying that ive been there.

  • @steverooni99 What's real? I said the food he was eating looks similar to the Vietnamese Pho noodles.

  • No bad for a Yankee from New York traveling to Laos.

  • as a farang living in thailand,i found it an interesting trip when i went to laos.seeing the similarities and differences between the two countries.and i loved drinking beer lao :)

  • Anthony Bourdain REALLY loves what he does!!

he is a great chef and respects other cultures and values!!!!

Anthony Bourdain is one in a million!!

  • I think it is khao piar in Laotian.

  • That looks like pho.

  • man I would like to meet Anthony he seems so cool n try all kinds of food.

  • Anthony Bourdain is the mutharfucc'n MAYOR!!

  • Ignore your parents, and go there yourself. Lao is one of the best places to visit in the world. I traveled all over SE Asia alone against my parents wishes and never regretted a single moment of it.

  • Hello :) I am searching for the name from the Musicartist/Band right at the beginning from this video. It´s like Big Beat with the a Khaen. i love it. oh, i am searching for sooo long. i hope, anyone can help me. :) Wish you a beautiful day. Many geetings, Andreas

  • it's a thai/lao folk song calles lai nyao lum sing. i think. do a you tube search for(johnny olsen-lai nyao sing). he's the first westerner to win a title for best Khaen or something in that title. have a day

  • I'm a big fan of Laos! I would love to vacation there. I love the mountains they have. It's great for hiking.

  • I'm Lao but never eaten birds like that. I guess only in the poorer region. They should have stayed in vientiane and luang prabang.

  • Laos is a beautiful place once you get to know it. It's very pretty with all it's landmarks.

I've lived there for two years! If you are a tourist, I highly recommend visiting Vientiane, Laos.

  • the vietnamese did not invent rice noodles.

  • Actually, the Chinese invented rice noodles 5000 years ago. But the region of China where it was created is ironically the same place where the first Vietnamese nation was founded about 1000 years later. So in a sense, the Ancestors of the Vietnamese created Rice Noodles. The Vietnamese took a local dish and made some awesome food with it. In my honest opinion, the Vietnamese make the best rice noodle dishes and soups. But it doesn't mean that Laotians can't cook, they too are awesome cooks.

  • gee...i invented walking, sneezing, coughing, claping..... etc... please don't it away from me.... it would be considering copy....

  • @muaythai4ko Shut the fuck up, that's just ignorant.

  • really?

  • o shit my homeland!!!!! i wanna c that place hmm but no hmong ppl>???

  • shit they didnt even show any hmoob. thats how scared laos is of hmoob. and hey those bombs were for the communist so i dont feel bad for laos.

  • Da reason Y he didn't show any hmong ppl cuz yall don't have these kind of good food. All U eat is plain water with rice-no seasoning. Dats Y yall hmong always eat at asian restaurant.Yall don't know how to cook. Eat shit!

  • I met this Hmong tribe in the mountians of Vietnam and they all speak Vietnamese. I asked them if they were Vietnamese, and they said no. I asked them if they were born in the village. They said yes. I asked them if they are a citizen of Vietnam, they said yes. As the day went on, I laughed and laughed, they didn't claim to be Viet yet they are citizens of Vietnam, eat Vietnamese dishes, speak Vietnamese and half of them have Viet blood in them. Traditional Hmong dishes are terrible.

  • hey doc come to las vegas say that to me ill slap u around bitch ass

  • do somebody know where i can see the whole episode????

  • i'm seeing this episode on Travel and Living SE Asia right now... the last quarter of the show is left.

    it's really depressing :(

the first time i saw the guy in crutches, i was really thinking, don't tell me, he's gonna feed the crew... and he did.. :(

thats a very touching thing. and bourdain is a class act to acknowledge that he feels bad about eating food from people who have no reason to be nice to him. :(

he's at the laos alcohol factory right now. v nice episode. :(

  • Lao hasn't changed much I think there should be more tourism, business, trade, but not overly the culture should stay the same, not like Thailand who has overly open up their doors to westerners who tend to exploit Asian ppl.

  • Laos is beautiful, this episode does not do the country any justice, I am Lao and want to visit it one day, the waterfalls, and mountains, and picturesque countryside.

  • whats that song i want to know it

  • Shit I'm Laotian and very of it!

  • Same here. I'm quite flattered Bourdain visited Laos. It deserves a little bit of exposure, I haven't seen alot of Laos episodes in other shows in Travel Channel.

  • that soup looks exactly like vietnamese pho

  • You fake ass, krab ass gangbanger. It's pretty damn similar. And the Vietnamese make those exact same noodles, you know how I know? I've been to Laos before. We don't make the same stock, the stock is uniquely Lao but the noodles are identical, created through the same time old process. Vietnamese eat those noodles everyday. Those noodles aren't made in secret, everyone knows what they are. Vietnam is food crazy. Ask Anthony Bourdain what country is his favorite in Asia. That would be "Vietnam."

  • lol that was months ago when I made that comment. U actually have no fuccin life is to scroll all of this shit n make comments on it. It aint about no cuz or slobkz anymore, it's everybody killa foo! Get off ur shit n realized that green rule everything n dead presidents runs the hood, fakeass bitch!

  • Anyway as I just remembered what I was describing is the diff. type of noodles where it's most represent. like the noodles he was eating is common amongsts Laos which is called kow piac. The other kind of noodles is ka pun noodles which is common with chinese. The noodles that is common known 4 viet is pho. There's more noodles but all southeast share it but cook it in their own flavor or same. It's just which country eat certain ones more.

  • I see. I felt. It inspired me to do more.

    LaoStars Design

  • ¡Re piolaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!

  • I love Laos, I have lucky enought been there twice and I really love Laos and also the Laotian.

  • kahn supanupasoamme from hank hill is from laos.

  • anybody have a link to a torrent of this in xvid or mkv? ive googled it but it dosent seem any groups or person ripped it yet and the next episode is on tomorrow. i hope someone takes the time to get the new episodes up in good quality.

  • nevermind found it

  • oh boy... i wanna go back to laos and eat some kaoh peahk.

  • i swear. so many people talk shit on here. 100% chance you wouldnt say it to their face. so hide behind a computer if that makes you feel bigger

  • Many thanks to Anthony Bourdain and his crew for going to Laos! I went back one time and I can't wait to go back and eat an authentic Laos food again.

  • Why do you hate my? You don't even know me! Anyways, Lao is a third world country, it is poor obviously. But being poor doesn't mean you have to be stupid! The Government pays little attention to providing proper Education to the majority, only the few, rich and the cronies keeps the wealth to themselves and has parking lot full of European cars and kids get sent to study abroad. Give them books, develop an IT and Manufacturing industry (like India) and lets see what happens.

  • You're a moron ZB90.

  • I just don't understand where you get off about your little rant about the monks. That in particular bothers me shitless. And judging from your little comment below I DOUBT you even know the history of the changes in power in Laos in the last 80 or so years. What do you expect? Rome wasn't built in a day. I don't mean to be an ass. I'm sorry if I am, but Christ... the end.

  • RINTHAL, ZB90 is right. What he saw in Laos needs to be explained. Why are some of the cronies doing this? This may be a good sign that the communist is fading. But also a bad sign that corruption is back. Rome wasn't built in a day. But Germany and Japan or even Malaysia was built much faster.

  • The comment below was meant for ZB90, because I hate him.

  • I seriously doubt the monks has anything to do with the ability of Laos modernizing into the real world. The inept ability of Laos and Cambodia to modernize as fast as Thailand (strong Buddhist nation) is due to the fact that there is not a strong highway structure, bad luck (getting the hell bombed out by Americans), landlocked, and corrupt government. Read and take classes on Southeast Asia, before you make foul remarks.

  • ZB90, You guys should know what a debate is. Let the man speak for the sake of progress. He may be suggesting that the monks may play a huge role in the development of the nation. This is a country where the Buddhism is greatly link to the government. People pay a lot of attention to monks.

  • Oh I'm letting him speak, I'm all for discussing and sharing knowledge. But then again let me say my part also. Yes it's true that Buddhism is greatly linked to government in Southeast Asian cultures. But while the government is influenced, it is still the government that has the final say (for example Burmese monks who leads protest against their govt, but still it's not getting better). I was not attacking him/her in anyway. I just don't understand the connection between monks and Taliban.

  • The monks and the Taliban is just a comparison. The Talibans are known to suppress many things that comes with capitalism. The Theravada Buddhism are known to sway people from material wants. It is obvious that the government has the last word. But in this case, it appears that the government is providing the means for the monks to become a crowd control. And that is not what a country interested in progress should be doing.

  • It's true that inability to modernize Laos is partly because of the corrupt government or the lack of a decent highway infrastructure. But it is definitely not because of being bomb or being landlocked (like Switzerland.) Take for instance, the metro area of Germany and Japan are heavily bombed. They came out and outshine almost every nation in the world.

  • You are right that being landlocked is not a big issue, but it is when trading is involved. Anywho yes Germany is a great country that is greatly advanced, but it's different from Laos in that after it was bombed, it received money from the United States into help rebuilding it (i.e Marshall Plan). If you watch the full episode, the United States did not even go back and take the land mines it left in Laos, let alone help rebuild it. Just saying. Let's just agree to disagree! :)

  • It is unfortunate, but okay, for the left-over land mines. I say...don't let ourselves be a victim twice - we must stop our grudge. Move forward and ask what we can do for our country. The German/ Japanese have empowered people to solve their problems with or without aids. The aid was design to set a course away from war and into to freedom. Haiti was given aid but has amounted to nothing because they didn't want it. We must find no excuses to fail.

  • You'll notice that the Dong falls prevent access to the sea. China and it's trade partners have interest in eliminating this fall. If we could find a genius to bypass the corruption and labor problems, and with enough funding this fall could be converted into a series of stepping water locks canal. I've not been to this region so I don't know the geology of the area.

  • wait what?

what are you talking about ?

    laos was never bombed?

unless your just talkin about the mine bombs?

  • for some reason my first comment didn't post lol. Yes Laos was bombed by the U.S, to destroy North Vietnamese troops in Laos territory. I can go on as I am a Social Science major lol, but you can basically google the topic to learn more.

  • Are you serious... you're a moron.

  • ZB90, I was talking to obncf. Excuse me for making that mistake.

  • That tour guide at the beginning, Sunja is disrespectful. I watched the whole show and he didn't translate correctly for the Lao people Tony visited and acted as he was the sole speaker for them all. He asked the questions he wanted, answered the way he wanted all in all Shameful!

  • anyone found the full episode on the net or youtube yet?

  • Get full episodes of ALL "No Reservations" seasons on iTunes. Go to TV Shows, Travel Channel, "Anthony Bourdain: No Reservations." Enjoy!

  • Finally, interesting.

  • It was on the travel channel last night, but I don't know when they'll show again.

  • it was on two times in a row! now i wanna go, but i won't because as he said, when tourists come it becomes industrial and it's culture gets ruined

  • Khao Piak is delicious!

  • this was an awesome episode!

  • Bourdain is real. He didnt just want to show the city or the main stream cuisine of Laos but he wanted his fans to realize the problems that lao people face in their homeland and how much they appreciate the small things like family and religion. Bourdain we salute you.

  • This show was amaziing. I had no idea about the history of this country during the Vietnam war. My stepdaughter was just visiting there and she said it was beautiful. Hopefully we'll visit too.

  • it makes me proud to be lao! =D

  • This was one of his best episodes.

  • FUCK YEAH! Quite possibly the most depressing episode ever. It's about time they did Laos though... but how about South Laos?!

  • lao pride! hehe

does anyone know where i can watch the whole episode?

  • I am so happy too.I' ve been for this for a long time. After I watched the show ,it makes me miss home more..thanks you Anthony and travel channel. Coi ga khon lao der..

  • Im so happy Laos is featured on his show : D Lao pride! Anthony and Lao is LOVE <3

  • This was the second best episode because it showed on a personal level the results of war so many years past. The best episode was in Beirut when the southern region was being bomb during taping and Anthony's team showed it from a personal point of view. I have a young friend who lives there who is not able to express what is going on very well. This is the best show to show me how the real world is.

  • I have to agree with you! This ranks really high on my list of his best episodes,it was really emotional and you can tell he was at lost for words when he was questioned by that one guy. My favorites definitely included Uzbekistan and Indonesia(fascinated with Indonesian culture), seeing him dance is hilarious. Then Malaysia the whole killing the pig thing was really uncomfortable for him.

  • Bourdain we're mad about you! The best and funny chef of tv ever! We'd eat also a chair if it's cooked by u...a big italian flavour kiss...

  • marry me anthony!

  • I am laotion :)

  • A friend of mine just moved back to Laos. His wife made the most awesome egg rolls I've ever eaten. Soulivhan was a cool guy.

  • I can't wait to see my country.Thank you for posting the VDO.One of my favorite channel.

  • Yes ,,,Kao Piek Sen is very good.

  • first!
