They have to put you on hold, the person who answers the phone works in the fitting rooms. They CAN NOT leave the fitting rooms, and they've no way to look any of this info up. All they have is a phone and a pile of clothing.

The person who answers the phone also gets treated like crap by everyone, because they had to stop people from doing their work to answer your question.

Also hold does not have music, so you've not been hung up. Hanging up and calling back makes things take longer.
