  • Looking at the fire, i can see the hostler lacks in experience. There are several very dark spots that indicate a cool spot in the firebox.

  • The Wabash background music sorta ruins for me.. I want to hear the what's going on! The real noise, the people talking... Don't we get serenaded enough in this society?!

  • did anybody bring some brats to cook?!?!

  • Well Yeah the Challenger is the biggest running Steamer in the World BUT THAT IS OIL BURNING. 261 IS COAL witch makes it the Largest COAL BURNER IN THE WORLD!!

Just thought I would say I AM NOT WRONG. I should know sence I am with the 261 all the time and who are you calling wrong anyways? I just read all of the post and it doesnt say anything about the 261 being the biggest steamer in the world!

  • Very cool, brought back lots of memories of my grandpa's love for steam engines.

  • I have 2 other clips submeitted for the 261 - go check them out. We'll be riding this big monster again this summer.

  • Wow, what an engine! It brings back memories of my childhood.

Also, wow what a tripod could do!

  • Yes, it brings back childhood memories for me as well - my dad worked for the Milwaukee Road and I used to go down to the depot to see him and I can recall those big old coal burning monsters - I even rode them to Sun Praire, WI to visit my uncle who was a farmer.

I agree about the tripod but I left the house 'on the fly' and didn't have the time to get it, etc etc. - Heck, I'm lucky I remembered to take the camcorder!!!!!

  • Acctualy NO But I know ALOT of the Crew Personaly and I am a HUGE Fan of it and I have gone down to the shop a few times to work on it where it is stored in Minneapolis! Check out my Videos of it!! Go to Conductor261

PS I ride on it ALL THE TIME and was out there for the Photo Charter on Twin Cities and Western

  • It was nice seeing it leave Chicago yesterday. When the GE Genesis AMTK 51 coupled up to the rear of the train around 11, this rusty Geep showed up at Union Station. The engine was CRL 15 and it was there to take away the Iowa Interstate Coaches that were used as props.

  • Man that is cool! I've never seen a steam train before in real life.

  • Acctualy it is the BIGGEST ONE IN THE WORD!!! NOT JUST THE USA!!!!!

  • that is IMPRESSIVE - we rode it 2 years ago and we're going to be riding it again next month from Milwaukee to the Dells and return - my granddaughter is really looking forward to it - I guess some of my love of trains has rubbed off on her - thanks for the info - are you actually one of the conductors on the 261?

  • All three of you are wrong. The largest operating steam engine in the world is the Challenger no. 3985 on the Union Pacific.
