Beautiful footage. This is probably the second worst storm that Astoria has ever experienced! I loved it, nonetheless, but the thunder sucked! Power out for days, winds that roar louder than living next to the ocean, it was insane!
0:23 that house is right up the street from mine. The rebuilding is done, now, and the people moved out, I believe.
i lived there when that happened it was nuts! i lived on top of astoria and it was crazy to watch all the cars sliding into yards and power polls from the roads being iced over.
that was a good video. I remember this storm. It tore off some of our roofing, tore out all of our fence, and ripped three of our trees right out of the ground.
My wife and I moved to Astoria Oct 2007 and what a shock to get hit with that typhoon. We lived on hwy 202 and when we woke up the next day tried to drive in to town only to see so much devistation. Power poles down every and so much destruction. I will never forget how bad this storm was.
I see that you have hwy. 202 pics of some of the broken telephone poles. Our little town will never be the same... Some people still have blue tarps on thier roofs.
I would trade my Southern California rat race lifestyle- for a slower tougher life in Svenson, Astoria, or Cannon Beach. My wife grew up in that area- and loves sunny San Diego. I'll stay wherever she wants- but I see a life in the snow and rain could be one heck of a lot cheaper than here. I'd want a 4 wheel drive truck, though.
Nice job on the video...it shows almost all aspects of what we went through. The gas lines, the community getting together to feed neighbors, very concise...
Yep, I live in this town. Two of the house in it I have been in, and lived next door to. We moved a year before the storm hit though. Emerald Height, they are logging like, all of the trees up there because they were so damaged. My grandparents have a better view of the river now then we do, and we live a block away from the river.
This is great footage. I am a Astoria native and am sorry that you had to go through this. It was a shame it had such a huge impact. Keep you head up!

I live in hammond(about 15 mins from astoria)
this storm was crazy....like 6 days with out electric or running water. It was so Unsettling seeing all the damage it had done.
watching everyone repair after the storm and stuff was alittle unsettling also.

Yes, excellent photos.
But, I think that the after-school special from 1989 wants it's music back.

I used to live in the heights. I was able to see some of the damage. Those winds seemed to be like nothing I've seen in my life
