for Tibetans a few hundred years is not old and this building was not meaningful for them and more trouble than it was worth, they did not honor the promises to the town
The building was originally purchased with the plan to demolish it one day. I heard this from a man who arranged the deal. Although I hold many precious memories of this building, I realize that all compounded things are impermanent. We may comfort ourselves with the understanding that the new facility is built with modern fire codes etc. I am OK with it.
There are a few of us still around who remember the meetings in Woodstock with the town council and the promises by the Tibetans to honor our heritage and care for it. Apparently all have forgotten.
