That looks just like mine. I love my S&W .357 Mag its a great gun. I just need to get a Colt Python in my collection next. To me a gun collection is not compette without a Colt.
Bit of useless info on the K-frame 66. If I remember it right, It was the basis of the only revolver ever to win the Bianchi cup Prac pistol comp back in the late 70's.
I also like heavy 180 grain loads in a .357, but the muzzle flip with the heavier loads makes my 42-ounce 4” full-underlug Colt shoot much higher, so I have to lower the rear sight all the way down. (This was a new phenomenon for me being a rifle guy and thinking heavier bullets would shoot lower.) I’ve been thinking about this mountain gun or a 686 3”, but with the lighter weight doesn’t it print super high with heavy loads?
I really like a 3 inch 357 for carry. It rides very well, but still has plenty of barrel. Don't worry about the sights. The factory takes that into account, and puts a higher front sight on the shorter, lighter guns.
I love them - the 45 Colt is very well suited for the Mountain Gun concept. There are articles in our ARCHIVE section (no videos) os the Model 25 and 625 Mountain Guns.
@Gunblastdotcom I handled the 625 Mountain gun today. Has great balance and a nice feel. Im interested also in the Lipsey's exclusive Ruger flat top convertable .45. Just gotta find one!
Lipseys has them now - my brother Boge just picked up an extra one. Contact Lipseys if you don't have a Lipseys-affiliated dealer in your area and they'll find you a dealer.
I love all of your videos. They are informative and to the point. The only complaint is when you do videos while it's raining. I understand if you only have firearms for so long to review, but I believe that the loner could understand if you have to keep it a little longer to wait for the rain to stop. This would make for a better review. I personally don't have any videos myself and couldn't understand the time restraint. I can say it's not very pleasant though. I love all your work and time i
We very, very seldom have that to happen. The problem is not with the gun, but with the video photographer. If I schedule him to drive over here, we have to do the video.
Great review, Jeff! The .357 makes a lot sense in the mountain gun. As if it isn't hard enough to choose between 41 magnum, 45 colt, and 44 magnum! After shooting this are you still partial to the 45 colt?
I like all of them, and own several guns in each caliber, except for the 41 magnum. I never really got into that one, even though it is an excellent cartridge.
In my opinion Swith and Wesson Has always woowed me with their guns i like the designs, the control and familiarity of the guns they put out but 357. is a classic revolver to me Thanks for posting
It's getting awfully hard to justify a 36 oz sixgun for woods carry when you can get a fifteen(!)-shot semi-auto like a S&W M&P40, with a larger caliber; corrosion-resistant construction; fast reloads; and less weight, even when loaded with a full 15 round payload.
Premium .40 S&W hollowpoints have 500 ft/lbs energy at the muzzle, too.
@classof77 If I understand the purpose of a mountain pistol the reliability of a revolver makes more sense than the potential firepower and round capacity of a semi-auto. Personally, if I'm carrying something for dangerous game I'd rather have six sure shots of 200 gr. Cor-Bon hard cast .357 magnum than a mag full of .40 S&W hollowpoints. To each his own!

They should make the 686 without the damn full underlug!
TheFirearmEnthusiast 1 year ago
@TheFirearmEnthusiast I like the underlug.
frankgon4 1 year ago
@frankgon4 So you think they shouldn't make a S&W 686 with a half underlug option for people that hate the full underlug?
TheFirearmEnthusiast 1 year ago
@TheFirearmEnthusiast Didn't say that. Merely said that I like the full under lug.

Very well, if you stay within 357 magnum pressure specs.

Seems your model really liked that 200 grain Cor-Bon; it really blew away your other test loads in accuracy.

Isn't 36 ounces a little bit too heavy for carry?
Codename46 1 year ago 3
@Codename46 2/14 pounds doesn't seem too bad.

@WALL45tech That's as heavy as a 1911. I'm carrying a Glock 19 and I can definitely feel it :(

Not too heavy for me. A steel-framed 1911 weighs more, and an alloy-frame 1911 weighs as much. Both are good carry guns.
