Hafa Adai sistah'....any chance you can give specific ingredient amounts in your recipes for those of us who are cooking challenged? ...lol....better yet, invite us over so we can grind some of urs that we keep lookin' at...yuummm..
GOYORIA is a Chamorro sweet that is orginally from the state of Oaxaca in Mexico. In Mexico it is known as GOYORIA. It is not a very well known sweet throughout Mexico, however the people of the Oaxaca region are very familiar with it. It can be found in various flavors depending on the ingredients used. But all GOYORIA is deepfried to remove all the moisture. And is commonly glazed in sugar as well. In guam the coconut flavor seems to be the standard. but banana flavor is good too. biba guyuria
@kuraku3 Many mexican foods arrived in guam during the colonial period. Mexican sailors and laborers introduced new foods and cooking techniques to the chamorros. I was surprised to find the Mexican sweet, GOYORIA, when i attended a festival of mexican sweets in mexico city. I spoke to the señora about Guam's GUYURIA sweets and she was amazed that a very local food item from mexico found its way to Guam. Most of the mexicans that arrived in guam during that period were from the oaxaca region.
@kuraku3 Ive tried some of the mexican version too. It was like a peanut brittle with guyuria instead of peanuts. i bought a small disc of it and broke it apart. it was just like guyuria in guam with a few differences only.
@chamorrito...thanks for sharing!!! someday i'd love to go to Mexico and Spain to learn more about Guam food!!!!
