I used to have rats but they smelled so my parents made me get rid of them. I don't know why they smelled; I kept the cage clean. Well I LOVE rats and really want more. But my parents don't want me to get anymore because they think all rats smell. WHAT DO I DO?? Is there a way to make sure they don't smell or something??
I want all ur stuff. That is so cool though having lyk a rat area. Do you lyk put a gate up so they have a certain amount of area or do they just stay in one place?
Hi jorats! I just wanted to ask you a few things, ok first, is it normal when one of my rats squeak sometimes when I want to lift him up (this does not happen often) and second of all is that how do you introduce rats to each other? Last off, where or how do yo rescue your rats, I was just wondering.
doesn't your rats chew through all of those furr and cloth enclosures you have for them? my rats chew through everything... my cage had 2 platforms held on by plastic clips and they chewed through every single clip and both platforms collapsed :(. not on them btw they r both fine but now their cage is so bare and boring. :'(
i have 16 rats right now, 13 r itty bitty babies, a week old today.
i have my male rat who iz a total brat, im the only one that can pick him up otherwise he screams nd he hates being outside of his cage so i can't have him out long nd i feel bad but, idk rlly
i can't wait till my youngest females babies r like this, they r so cute but i gotta give the babies away which sucks nd i love rats but i cldnt handle 16 rats
Hiya, just out of curiosity, cause I'm well aware you have a well-built corner for your rats. How d'you introduce them on neutral territory? Or have you found it was okay to introduce them in the rat corner all together? What're your experiences?
When doing intros, they most definitely must be on neutral ground. I make a corral type enclosure in my living room and put them all in, no toys, no hiding spots, but with a big dish of yummy food so they can be somewhat distracted for the first few times.
What do you usually feed them daily and what is a good time for them to be fed? Also, How much time do you play with them and let them run around everyday. I didn't get your Rat Care lesson, Did you send one to my email?
No not like some one you have lost but someone who's like a human brother or sister to you.. you grow so attatched to them its like they are forever part of you.... my newest rat well.. she's only 2 and has a tumor i cry every nite nowing she's gonna die... this is what im gonna say over her grave: 1 of my rats is barried under a pine tree the 2end under a cherry but my unique and loved kangaroo rat is barried in a piceful prairie.... kagaroo rat is her nick name *sob* i'll miss her....
thats is pure evil that someone would leave a rat out in a box, we adopted one, in his past home he had been abused, he had been shaved and someone had burnt the end of his tail with a lighter and he was under weight. He isa back to normal now, a really friendly guy.
We were suprised when we had got him of how friendly he was. love him to bits, his name is Monty, i think he was just relieved when he came into a family he really deserves. He was only a baby wen he had been abused and thrown out into the streets. poor fella.
Did you breed your girl or did she come from the pet store already pregnant? You can tell if she's pregnant if she has a huge belly. She will also nest just before giving birth.
The three little guys were from an accidental litter from someone on my forum. The two older girls are from an abused home and and they finally let me have them. The black dumbo is from the SPCA, she was left outside in a park in a box.
You definitely develop strong bonds with some of them. Some rats really love their humans and tolerate their buddies. lol I've had a few in my life, that were my heart rats, Ness, Isabelle, Radar...
I loves this video! They are so full of energy. I was wondering of you get your rats spayed or nuetered? I have been toying with the idea of getting my young female spayed but I am not quite sure any vets in my area deal with rats....
I have my females spayed because it reduces the risk of mammary tumours. I hope you have more than one rat, rats are very social and really need a same sex buddy for them to be completely happy and healthy.
Ok thanks, I think I may have my little one spayed. And yes I have more than one rat ^_^ and I am even picking up a new edition tomorrow. I love my ratties, by far my most favorite pet and I reccomend them to everyone as the perect pet.
My rat is about 8 months old. And Im getting 2 from the same liter that are almost 2 months old. Should I keep them in a different cage than my older one? If so, for how long? Thanks for anyones help ^^
Well, each rats have their personallity...My boy doesnt usually run away. I can just leave him in my bed and I'll find him sleeping an hour later. you just have to be sure there isn't a place where they can run and hide that you cannot reach... :) that's my tip.
omg, short haired velvet rexes! i miss mine. i have had short hair and curly hair velvet rexes. the short hair always look like their fur is still growing back after you shaved them (i had several people ask me why i shaved my girl). both kind are so supremely soft it should be against the law.
So do i...they r so good in the car..sleep the whole way or sit on my shoulder...X3 i hate 2 leave them why i go away for long periods of time since they r so social so recently i've been carting them around with me whereva i can..
I love rats!!!

Do you breed your rats or adopt. Personally, I think adopting is better because why breed when so many rats need homes!
Aubree47 2 years ago
I rescue rats, yes, there are just too many rats needing good homes.

With so many rats, do you get close to any of them personally, or is all of their social interaction just between other rats?

You should do a quarantine of about 2 weeks and then start with intros.
