  • Really great gun! I have the all-weather version in .22 and it shoots like a dream :)

  • Rick ..I'm using premier hollow points, it was all they had in .22... After shooting the gun for a few more days the accuracy is really coming around.. I can now put 5 shots in a dime at 15 yards and that was a challenge at first but now I'm consistently shooting these groups.I plan to try some different pellets when I find them....Im starting to notice the double vision with the scope if not adjusted perfectly but I can usually get around it. Also I find a good cleaning helps alot with accuracy

  • @silverjetta1

You are right about the cleaning. I found that my Trail needs the barrel cleaned, push a couple of dry patches down the bore, every 50 to 100 shots. Also, practice and patience makes a huge difference.

    Rick

  • Hey Rick.

Would you say this is a better offer than the NP XL? Or is it the same gun only with less power?

  • @mortensatriale

I like it better than the XL. It is "better" in my book because it is easier to shoot and has a lot less recoil. Also, because it has less recoil, it should last longer than the XL.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb

Thank you very much. Love your vids.

    Greetings from Norway.

  • and its made in china.

  • Hey Rick . Brought the Np home yesterday, first thoughts are its not that quiet even after 250 pellets of break in...Accuracy is still coming.. mostly because of the trigger and harsh recoil which is alot harder than my 22 lr. Im noticing how hold sensitive it can be it affects the tradgectory dramatically which im not use too shooting mostly firearms all my life.. But I am happy with its power and Fit and Finish. Its amazing u were hitting groups like that at 20 and 50 yards with the stock gun

  • @silverjetta1

Yes.. that was a stock gun. What pellets are you using?

    Rick

  • hey rick, would u recomend the browning Leverage in .22 cal for backyard hunting?

  • @XxlolopopXx

I'm not sure.. I'm waiting for Umarex to send me one to review.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • hey rick would you know were i could purchase an Edgun matador in 22 cal thanks.

  • @spooper3

Talk to EDGunUSA. He's got one.. from what I hear they are really something else.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb They are very nice guns. But honestly i would have to have something magical for 1600$

  • @spooper3 Just because you watched a few of the videos, doesnt mean you are ready to shell out 1500 with no experience in PCP air rifles >.>

  • Part 2 , The gun is also considerably more here 299 and you have to have your possesions to purchase which I do... Its the same model though...Like I said Im rolling the dice and hope to get a good one...Now 4 the Q and A... For the 100 round break in period can you somewhat zero the scope and have a little fun or are you basically just shooting from the hip into a trap.lol..Can cold weather effect the NP -10 ....- 20 celcius (canadian) .....Thanks 4 your help and ill let you know how it goes..

  • @silverjetta1

During the break in, you can sight the scope in a general sense. These guns typically don't need the same break in period as a metal spring gun. also, they are less affected by the cold.

    Have fun!!!

    Rick

p.s. thank you for the kind words.

  • Hey Rick , Thanks alot for all your reviews and tips, etc.. There all very helpful, informative and once you watch some of your reviews all other peoples reviews just aren't enough or to shaky lol... Ive researched alot of airguns now since hunting season's over and I cant shoot my firearms around my neighborhood, however im limited to certain brands since I live in Canada but deciding to roll the dice on the NP.22 at a local gunshop that can be tough to deal with at best..Im gunna need a part2

  • The trajectory with the 22 cal is killer. I'm having trouble with hunting, I always aim to high or too low, any way to practice or ways to learn the mil dot better?

  • @addictedhunter

yep.. I'm working on a video to shot this very technique. Bottom line is to sight your gun at a known distance, say 20 yards. Then set targets at 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 yards and shoot dead center. Watch where the groups hit and then use the mill dot closest to the groups to aim on center. You'll learn which is right for what distance with practice.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • hey i have a Beeman RS2 dual caliber Sportsman Series i am using .22 cal and i have been shooting targets at about 30 yards and i wanted to know if a 1.5 to 2 inch group is by any means good at the range i am shooting i am also shoot from a second story window so the angles might have an impact on the accuracy

  • @PCGamesAndMore

you should try to get .75" from 30 yards.. make sure that the barrel is tight, the stock screws are tight, and that the barrel is clean. It may help.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb i will thank you Rick

  • I'm going to interpret that as approximately 1.66 MOA at 100, assuming there aren't any other variables to take into account that differ from firearms. Pretty damn good for an airgun!

  • Which size of H&N Field Target Trophy pellets preformed best for you? I see that they are offered with head sizes of 5.53, 5.54, and 5.55mm.

  • @Duckhunterbow

I'm not sure what size I have.. I shot this before they started putting them out with different head sizes.. when I use my micrometer, they come up 5.55.. if that helps.

    Rick

  • hey rick i have this gun and i can get it to group but when i go hunting its not on target any sugestment on what to it would realy help me out thanks

    stone

  • @airgunreviews723

the gun will group or won't group? I don't follow your question. Please send it again and I'll do what I can.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb my gun is shooting high and i cant get it sighted in correctly iv shot about 220 pellets and it still wont group

  • @airgunreviews723

did the barrel ever slip out of your hand while cocking the gun?

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb yes once

  • @airgunreviews723

I figured that was the case.. you've got a bent barrel. Call Crosman and see if they will repair it for you.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • Thanks

  • Can this gun take down opossums and raccoons?

  • @Sparkythejr

possibly.. up close inside 15 yards or so.

    Rick

  • Hey Rick, have you had the chance to work on the Np trigger yet?

  • @imjca63

I've played with it here and there. Take a look at the Take AIM where I rebuild a Trail NP. If you clean up the strut the trigger is a lot smoother.

    Rick

  • Also, another concern that I have is ease of shooting. You state that the NP in the Trail makes it less sensitive to needing to be held just right. Does that statement still hold against the RWS 34?

    Thanks!

  • @ryan52403

the NP is less hold sensitive than the RWS 34. The real advantage to the RWS 34 is the longevity of the materials. The RWS being German quality will just be better over the long term than the Trail NP.

    Hope that helps!

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb Thanks Rick! I really appreciate your insight. I'm a nb and your reviews and comments here have been a great help.

One follow up question, in regards to longevity of materials, are we talking about longevity concerns for the NP on the order of 500 rounds, 5,000 rounds, 50,000 rounds? Would the RWS be double the life, triple, etc?

Probably a difficult question to answer, but any insight to help set my expectations in light of having zero prior experience would be great!

  • @ryan52403

It will depend on how you take care of the gun. the NP is going to need service much earlier than the 34. There are "mods" the people have developed to strengthen the Trail and improve the shooting results, but the cost to implement raises the price over that of an RWS 34, which has better steel to start with, and better tolerances. In truth the Trail is too new to really know over the long term. The RWS 34 has been around for a LONG time and still going strong.

    Rick

  • Hi Rick, I am currently debating between the Trail NP and RWS 34. One of my primary concerns is noise levels...not so much for myself, but for the neighbors. How loud is the RWS 34 compared to to the Benjamin Trail NP .22 you reviewed. You list the trail NP at 97db, but state that it sounds quieter than the db meter suggests...but your RWS 34 review does not have a db reading.

  • @ryan52403

The noise on the RWS 34 will be louder.. say 102 maybe..

    Rick

  • RIck, I don't know what else to do!, I want to use it for hunting as a backup rifle for my Diana RWS 350 Magnum but I don't know what is happening, I like the rifle, I love the small version of the NP XL, is like a carbine with some less power easy to handle but I'm not able to zero the rifle'Please help....

  • @pcanting1

How many shots do you have through it so far, what pellets are you using, and have you been cleaning the barrel?

    Rick

  • Hi Rick:

Once again, Merry Christmas....well I purchase one of these rifles, Benjamin Trail NP Hardwood and let me tell you I am about to return it back to PY Air....I decided to purchase this rifle because I want something liter than my RWS 350 MAGNUM with some punvhing power!!! for some reason, I'm not able to zeroing the rifle at 10 yards, the rifle is shooting quite well but suddenly something possess the dam thing, the rifle starts shoot out of my zero, I'm using the Artillery Hold........

  • Hey Rick, Will this gun work well with a scope cam?

  • @PestDestroyers

It will work.. how well is the question.. the recoil on the springers gives the mount a fit.

    Rick

  • Hey Rick, what would you prefer for small game hunting. RWS 34 T06 with new scope, or the Benjamin Trail NP with new scope.

  • @MNTrapperNate

I think that in the end the 34 is going to be the better gun. I'd go with the 34.

    Rick

  • did u aim high a 100 yards

  • @tcdelano

yes.. and I would reduce the magnification of my scope to 5x so that the field of view would open up and I could use the last dot on the reticule to aim with.

    Rick

  • Hi Rick:

Quick question, between this rifle and the

Remington Nitro Piston Short Stroke in .22 cal for hunting small game?, which of these two rifles is a better idea for hunting small/medium game? between 35 to 50 yrds?

    Thanks,

    Paul

  • @pcanting1

I've had nothing but problems with the NPSS rifles that I've owned. They work great for a while and then something happens. So, in my opinion, I'd say the Trail NP.

    Rick

  • Hey Rick will this one take down a rabbit at 50yds

  • @MrOutdoorsman1001

With the right shot placement.. it should.

    Rick

  • well sir the bad,,, on the .25 its my last nitro piston slash springer,, pcp all the way, the good its a decent gun lots of power seems decent but still not worth 300 i dont think . stock screws comming loose scope comming loose, gets old i guess. the marader is my favorite by far. toby steve

  • I didn't see the comment yet haha. Purchased the np with a Grt iii trigger, with this be good for things like rabbit or possibly coyote? I've seen that people kill them with air rifles that shoot slightly faster at 22 cal

  • @cdjhunters

Coyote may be a bit ambitious but rabbit and other small game should be fine.

    Rick

  • whats the velocity with the jsb predator polymags in this gun?

  • @tykee19

    not sure.. maybe around 700ish

    Rick

  • please do a review on the crosman 1077 co2 repeater please i want to find a cheat co2 gun to hunt close distance squirrel and dove.

  • @TheYamahahunter

I looked at that gun years ago. It does not have the energy for what you are looking to do.. You can get my site from my channel page and look up the review that I did way back.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • hey rick long time no talk,,, we used to talk guns on here how you been? love the reviews the new nitro pistons guns taking things by storm so i have a new one ordred the benjamin 25 np. just wondering what you have heard if its any good?

  • @tobysteve1

I started testing one and it just did not make it out of the gate.. barely 600 fps and all over the pace at 10 yards.. I sent it back and moved on. Hopefully your experience will be better.

    Cheers

    Rick

p.s. things are busy, but great.

  • is the sling on this gun strong enough to fulfill its purpose? also, are the sling mounts mounted strong enough or do they come loose after sling-carrying the gun. If i wanted to replace the sling, then would i have to cut the nylon webbing of the factory sling?

  • @KillerFlyingFish

they are very adequate. I've not had any issues with mine.

    Rick

  • Of any air rifle you have shot in .22 cal; what has the most ft lbs of energy and accuracy. (max price of $350 or $400)

I am looking for a good hunting air rifle for rabbits and etc, but I don't know after research what might be the best in accuracy and power

  • @cdjhunters

I like the Walther Falcon Hunter with Gas Ram, Walther Talon with Gas ram, and the RWS 350 Mag (my fav)

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb

    Thanks for informing me!

  • @TheDaDanMan

I may get to one at some point. I did a written article of the Blue Streak, a long time ago.. same gun just in .20

    Rick

  • Comment removed

  • @KillerFlyingFish

The NP XL is harder to shoot because of the harsh recoil. The NP is accurate mainly because the recoil is much lighter. IF you can learn to shoot the XL correctly, you may get similar results.. but that is a big IF.

    Rick

  • Comment removed

  • @KillerFlyingFish

I would not do it.. it is way too heavy. You could blow the main seal or damage the ram. Stick with appropriate pellets.. The heaviest I'd go would be the Beeman Kodiaks and that is pushing it.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb No problem! Hey, I was wondering if you would do a review on the Crosman Nitro Venom. I am looking into nitro piston guns and I know this one was just released and is one of the cheapest. Thanks!

  • @Wasup123100

    Working on one now :)

    Rick

  • Rick, you have some of the best reviews around, your reviews convinced me to get the Ruger Air Hawk and QB78. Just wanted to say you're awesome!

  • @Wasup123100

thank you for the kind words!

    Rick

  • hey rick, i'm pretty solid on wanting to get this gun, but i have seen other reviews on websites and comments that say that the barrel fails to line up every time, causing the scope to be off, there fore not keeping accuracy, should these comments make me not buy the gun? or should i go with the walther falcon hunter? your opinion is much appreciated.

  • ...contacted at they are sending out a replacement.

  • @FangarJim

    Thanks for the update.

    Rick

  • Thanks Rick. Crosman was contact

  • Hey man great review. After looking at the all weather Trail NP at a local retailer for a while now i finally bought one. I think the gun is great but the trigger is the worst i may have ever used. But thanks to your review i was aware of that before hand. My groups are around the one inch mark at 29 yards with the accassional flyer do to me geting used to the trigger but should get better as i get used to the gun and trigger. With a better trigger this gun would be really good.

  • So Rick, Here's the million dollar question I should of asked you. There is a rabbit 50 yards away. you have a trail np and a trail np xl stock and a 1000 pellets shot through them. Which one do you pick up to make sure that rabbit goes down. is the xl better suited for that 50 yard range or the trail np has enough at that range to get it done?

  • @House1586

My Trail NP over the NP XL.. I know that I'll hit it with my NP.. not sure about the XL.. at least not from the shoulder anyway..

    Rick

  • I talked to crosman. One person told me it was a problem with barrel droop. Another person told me they quit telling people that. If they are saying they quit telling people that apparently I am not the only dissatified customer. I was going to trade it in for a Maurader (and a lot of extra money) but after breaking down the cost it was very expensive to shoot. I could shoot a sub sonic 22 round for less.

  • @yroy27

I'm hearing more and more about quality issues with the Trail NP.. I hope they get it fixed.. if not.. I'll have to start looking for another go-to airgun.

    Rick

  • Rick, Can you tell me how many decibels the Evanix Gaint produced .I would love to owe this rifle. But, I have very close neighbors. Thanks for all the educational videos.

  • @MrGilley12345

I've never tested one.. if I get the chance I'll let every one know.

    Rick

  • I have the all weather trail np. Benjamin sent me 3 of them. Not one would hold a group. I mounted a laser to the barrel to check the repeatability of the locking system. The gun would shoot where the laser pointed but the barrel would never lock in the same place so the scope was always off. Groups using the scope was all over the place. I would never recomend this gun to anyone.

  • @yroy27

You definitely got some bad rifles and I'd let Benjamin know about it. I've have great success with my hardwood Trail. but it is an older model. The first all weather I go had to go back because of a bad barrel joint.. the replacement is fine. Seems that you've gotten consecutive duds.. I hate when that happens.. Generally these are good guns.. I'm not a crosman "fan" but I've been pleased with my Trail

    Rick

  • @yroy27 I am experiencing this now. I bought mine a little over a year ago (All weather). After upgrading the trigger (a must) I have no problem making the same groups as Rick from 50 yards, so I can attest to his review. That being said, I friend of mine is so frustrated with his (purchased about 3 months ago) he gave it to me! It is a mess. Same trigger upgrade and the thing will not hold center!!! Very frustrating!

  • @FangarJim

Check the barrel joint.. and I'm going to contact Crosman about the Trail issues.. We'll see if they have any response.

    Rick

  • Well went to the range to with the Benjamin Trail NP AW, I still can not get over how accurate this gun is at 50 yds. hitting snuff can lid every time the for giggles moved it out to the 75 yard marker still hitting it there also. Great gun for the money.

  • Is this the gun for this price range youd recommend or is there another one i should look at?

  • @20griff

best gun for under $250 in my opinion.

    Rick

  • which trigger would you recommend for this gun? i want it for back yard target and small game shooting. i just want something that will get the job done, it doesnt have to be top of the line.

  • @20griff

The GTX Gen II or the GRT III.. I prefer the GTX Gen II trigger.. There may be a third trigger available soon.. not sure when though.

    rick

  • would you say this is a fairly flat shooting gun?

  • @KillerFlyingFish

As flat as you'll get with a .22 airgun at this power range.. "flat" shooting is very subjective with airguns..

    Rick

  • hello friend am from chile I have a question if I can buy a rifle and then sent it through some means of transporting cargo or mail is lit ... greetings from chile

  • @pedrookbkn

You can contact PyramydAir and speak with them about it. They may be able to send one to you.

    Rick

  • does the .833" at the 50 YD target mean your groups were only .833 inches wide at 50 yards? also, can i just use the .22 firearm rod i already have to clean a .22 break barrel?

  • @KillerFlyingFish

That is a "center to center" i.e. center of the pellet to center of the pellet. You get this measurement by measuring the widest part of the shot group and then subtracting the width of the pellet. That will give you your "center to center" group.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • how much did you have to adjust your scope to get groups from 20 to 50 to 100 yards? was it a siginicant change or did you just move a few MOA? also, does the scope have come up lines on the elevation and windage turrets.

  • @KillerFlyingFish

20 is dead on, 50 is 3 dots high at 9x, 100 is the last dot at 5 or 6x I don't remember. When shooting at 100 yards, you actually need to reduce the "zoom" on your scope so you can see the pellet drop. People buy an 8-32 scope expecting to use it at 100 yards only to find that the pellet drop is so severe at that range they can't even use it a 8x. My favorite class scope is the 3-12 scope.. I love them.

    Rick

  • Comment removed

  • @KillerFlyingFish

I hope to get to the Venom soon.. maybe in November or December. The summit has not impressed me. I had one years ago and it was not great. The Trail NP is really Crosman's "winner" springer right now. (in my opinion).

    Rick

p.s. thank you for the kind words.

  • Thanks for the headsup on the XP model. I received my rifle today and took it out for a spin. It's a really nice looking rifle for the money. When zeroing at 30 yards, with Gamo Match Diabolo 15.43 gr. I got inconsistant results. I am going to try a few other brands and weights but need to order online as the Sporting Good stores around here do not carry a large selection of pellets. What do you recommend for accuracy at distance?

  • @knightsTemplar1347

If you are shooting the Trail NP, then the H&N Field Target Trophies are what you want.. in a pinch the Beeman Field Target Specials will work in a pinch.

    Rick

  • Very professional Video. I will receive my Benjamin Trail NP tomorrow and can't wait. I have a Ruger Air hawk .17 and it is powerful. However, I am looking to go bigger but within a reasonable budget. I chose this rifle because of the specs. first then the price. I may upgrade to the XP in the future if this one proves to be, above all things, accurate. I collect hunting and military rifles but I can't shoot them in the back yard. This is a great addition to my small air rifle collection.

  • @knightsTemplar1347

I'm glad that you like the video.. Let me spare you the disappointment.. don't go to the XL version of this rifle. it shoots faster but at a significant cost. The recoil is much more severe and it takes great skill to shoot accurately. Also, because of the recoil, it tends to rattle apart.

    Cheers!

    Rick

  • Oh, and the stock trigger initially seemed fine (Trail NP XL 1100), but with a bit of shooting I realized I had no idea where the stages were starting and ending, so the moment of firing was always a surprise. Does the CDT trigger solve that? I would really like a crisp break. I think that would help my shooting a lot right there.

Thus far I have not missed using the gun for pests, and it hits like a hammer, but I would like a bit more confidence I am going to hit & kill cleanly.

  • @USSBN734

I used to recommend the CDT trigger.. until I tried the GTX Gen-II trigger from Airguns of Arizona. I have mixed feelings about both of them and i'm hoping for something better to come out. I don't like the way either of them "flop around" if you pull through the first stage and then decide not to take the shot. I don't know if there is a fix for it, but it would be nice. More and More I'm leaning towards RWS because they have such good mechanics and their prices are not bad.

    R

  • Rick, I am shooting off a couch arm with a rolled up towel on top. I get 5-7 rounds in a dime-sized hole at 25 yards, then I start getting fliers. I stop for a few, then come back to shoot, and my accuracy is back, so I think it is me, not the gun.

But I would like to use a bench rest to eliminate more variables so I can be certain that the scope is zero'd, and it is my technique that needs work, not the gun or scope. What do you use? Is there a bargain bench rest I should try?

  • @USSBN734

Hey there.. when's the last time you cleaned the barrel? I use a towel and the artillery hold.. I don't use a rest to shoot as I did in my earlier videos.. I do better without it.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb I clean it with every use (bore snake and brass brush). I have tried the artillery hold with towel, and the problems is at 50 yards with 16x magnification, my heartbeat is enough to move the reticle significantly. So I am trying to time firing between HBs, with a trigger that is untimeable.

I cannot hold the gun steady enough to determine if it is the gun, the scope, or me (most likely me) so I wanted to isolate the gun more (fewer variables) so I can tell.

  • @AirGunWeb I am in awe that you can hold the gun so steady at 50 yards. Perhaps the trigger will make the difference. I certainly hope so.

  • @USSBN734

It takes a lot of practice.. shoot 1000 to 1500 pellets a week for 3 to 5 years.. you'll get it.. no problem..

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb eek.

  • Rick, Followed your recommendation and purchased the Benjamin Trail NPSS.

Great gun........trigger horrible, you said it best when you stated the 16 stage trigger! My question is the gold GTX Gen -II trigger or the CBR from CDT?

I like the gold.......any comments welcome.

    Kevin

  • @kevnick75110

If you need one like right now.. then the GTX Gen-II would be my suggestion.. however.. if you can maybe wait about a month or two.. it may be worth it..

    Rick

  • Ok, i am 13. Ive had this gun for about 2 weeks. I only have been through 2 tins of pellets. 175 pellets in each. I was cocking it and it sliped off my knee and the barrel slaped closed. I think the barrel bent up. I cant hit the broad side of a barn now. I need help asap. My dad just ordered me a grt-lll trigger.

  • @benjamintrail22

Yep.. you bent the barrel.. it can be fixed.. but you need special tools.. I know this because I've done the same thing before. I was reworking the stock trigger and over adjusted. The engagement with the sear was too light and the barrel let go.. same basic issue. It is about $100 in parts and labor to replace the barrel..

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb ok thanks, do you have any info on how to get the things to fix it, or do u send it somewhere and they fix it, im new to airguns, the more info the better.

  • @AirGunWeb thanks, i called crosman they lead me to this guy, then he told me he would call crosman, then he called me back, i am sending them barrel and chamber and there replaceing it for nothing, and my trigger should be here soon.

  • @benjamintrail22

Awesome.. I'm glad you got it worked out.

    Cheers!

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb isnt the bull barrel like really thick so how does it bend?

  • @NRXTM

it is a shrouded barrel.. The barrel is pretty ridged by itself.

    Rick

  • it did better at 50 then 20

  • @tykee19

Nope.. it may look like that because of the zoom on the camera.. but it was better at 20 yards..

    cheers

    Rick

  • Great review, except now I am going to have to buy one of these. I had thought about the Crosman, but I like the weaver mount, sling mounts, sling.. Thanks!

  • Rick, I have been looking at the Trail NP XL in .22, the Trail NP in .22 and .177. I use the rifle mostly to handle garden pests such as starlings, sparrows, squirrels, rabbits, and the occasional crow.

My question is which would be "best." I would like to reach out to 50 yards, minimum, with accuracy and at least rabbit killing power. Would the Trail NP .177 be adequate, or should I hold out for the .22? Would the XL be worth the additional cost?

    TYVM

  • @USSBN734

The XL is powerful but very difficult to shoot accurately. The Trail NP in .22 is your best option.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • Hi, Rick. I love your channel and I think that you provide the most in-depth review about each airgun. I respect that you also point out the shortcomings of each rifle, reviewing each rifle in the view of a airgun hobbyist instead of advertising as a dealer.

BTW, would you suggest a Benjamin Trail NP or NP XL to a beginner who do target-shooting mostly? Also, which caliber would you suggest to him?

  • @177or22

I would suggest the Trail NP over the NP XL. It will be much easier to shoot and therefor be more accurate.

    Cheers

  • Hi Rick, I was wondering what your thoughts were if I said Benjamin Trail NP All weather vs. Crosman Venom dusk .22... Which do you prefer.. I'm leaning towards the Trail because of the better scope

  • @PestDestroyers

Trail NP for sure.. the better scope and barrel shroud is worth the extra money.

    Rick

  • @AirGunWeb Thanks!

  • Hi Rick I have finally decided to get the Benjamin trail np!! But I have one problem I am afraid to get a defective gun because it's Chinese made and I wanna get the 10 for 10 test, but at pyramid air the gun is 60 dollars more expensive!! Should I spend the extra 60 or do you think I should just test my luck and go for the cheaper price!! Sorry for all these questions!! Keep the videos coming

  • @Airgunbegginer

When it comes to these guns (Crosman), Quality Control is more of an after thought. (that is just my opinion). If you can get a Trail NP for $60 less than $230 and you can be certain that the vendor will stand behind it, then it may be worth rolling the dice. You just have to weigh the "cost" of time and frustration if you do get one that does not shoot right. Sometimes spending a little more when you can be certain of what you are getting is a better deal.

    Cheers

  • @Airgunbegginer

On other note.. PA often has a 10% coupon they send out. So if you sign up for their email alerts you'll get one every so often. That can help offset the more expensive cost.

  • Hi rick, i currently have a Gamo big cat how much more accurate is the benjamin np and is it worth it to sell my big cat and get it? I was also looking at the discovery I am wondering if I can use the electric compressor I already have at home if so do I need to buy a new nozzle for it? And what kind? Thanks Rick you have really helped a lot!

  • @Airgunbegginer

Hey there.. the Trail in .22 is very accurate. I've not tested the big cat in .22 so I can't make a direct comparison.. The trail may have a bit more power which helps it maintain accuracy out to 50+ yards. As for a compressor, you need an HPA compressor as a normal home/shop compressor won't work. They tend to top out a 150 psi, you need 2000 psi for a discovery and 3000 psi for most other PCP rifles.

    Rick

  • so do you like this one more than the xl?

  • @VOS38

    yes.. much more

    Rick

  • how many shots did it take for it to brake in and how do you know when its broke in

  • @hunttfish

It took about 100 to 200.. When the velocity become consistent through the chronograph you know it is broken in.

    Rick

  • rick i got my benjamin trail np .22 yesterday now i have about 200 rounds through it and i get it sighted in at 25 yards then i set the gun down for a little bit then shoot it again and its not sighted in anymore all the screws are tight got any ideas?

  • @hunttfish

Sure.. make sure that you don't change your hold. Any change in the placement of your front hand will cause the point of impact to move as much as half an inch or an inch at 25 yards. Consistent hold is going to be the key.. Also, clean the barrel every 50 to 100 shots. I think my next Take AIM will be on "prepping your airgun for use..."

    Rick

  • @hunttfish i had this issue with mine, your front scope mount needs a couple shims that you can make out of either strips of tin cans, or clear plastic.. I had to use two.

  • rick, how did you become an air gun reviewer

  • @hunttfish

I started about 5 years ago with my own blog site.. I reviewed anything I could get my hands on and sought advice from folks that were already doing it. Tom Gaylord was a tremendous help. After about a year I was able to start getting products without paying for them but had to send them back when done. After two years I was able to start keeping them. After 3 years I was able to pick up a sponsor. Hard work and consistency. That is the key. email me directly for more.

  • I'm getting my Trail NPSS replacement today. I need to know how to properly mount the scope to the Weaver/Picatinny scope rail. Seems like there are 3 ways to do it.

    A. Loosely attach the mounts to the rail and slide both of them toward the REAR (inside the slots) then tighten them and the scope.

    B. Same as above but sliding both mounts towards the FRONT.

    C. Same as above but sliding one mount forward and one mount back.

Hope I explained this sufficiently in the small space I had to work with.

  • @RetiredGeezer

I losen the bottom and the top so that the rings float free.. then I put the rear mount on in the 2nd slot from the rear and the front mount where it makes sense to put it and have enough room for the scope to sit far enough back in the mounts to be comfortable.

Secure the bases first, and then tighten down the tops paying close attention to make sure that your reticule is square with the gun and the the eye relief is where you need it to be.

    Cheers

  • @AirGunWeb

Rick, thanks for the help. That's exactly how I mounted the scope. I'm still having trouble with the groups but I think it might be the crossman pellets. Sometimes they feel snug when I load them and some times not so snug. I'm going to get some H&N Field Target Trophy pellets from PA, that you recommended.

    I'll keep you posted.

  • @RetiredGeezer

oh yeah.. get the H&N Field Target Trophy pellets.. or the Discovery Hollow points.. for some reason they aslo shoot pretty good.

    Rick

  • hi rick , can a additional silencer be fitted to the np. Thank you

  • @h6425

no.. and it would not help.. the noise from most all spring guns is not the pellet, but the spring mechanism.. That needs to be quieted down to really see a decrease in noise.

    Rick

  • rick,

your groups at 50 yards started off tighter than at 25 i dont think that seems right

  • @hunttfish

Well you see what the camera got.. That's what it got. The 50 yard group turned out really good. The other thing was that the 50 yard group was the last group of the day, after I had had a lot of time behind the trigger. I also learned that you need to clean the barrel with a dry patch every 100 shots or so.. something that I'll address on a followup video or on Take AIM at some point.

    Cheers

    Rick

  • @hunttfish approx. how many moa were required for the 50, and 100 yd shots?

  • @greenleafbrandi

been a while... but I believe I aimed 3 dots high at 9x for the 50 yard shots.. for 100 I aimed 5 dots high at 5x.. how all the math works out.. I'm not sure.

    Rick

  • hello rick i'm emanuel and i wanted to know if you recommend the trail NP over the XL I heard the XL has lots of recolie and doesn't get good groups past 25 yards

  • @emanuelf11

Yes. the NP over the XL. The recoil on the XL is really brutal and makes the gun difficult to shoot.

    Rick

  • ive been looking at most of your reviews in the past couple of days, but what rifle would you recommend for long range shooting (100 yards+) and with good accuracy, Id rather have a .22 cal over a .177cal. Also with a price of under 300$. Thank you

  • @Justalittled

100 yards at $300 is a difficult. A 100 yard gun really should be a PCP gun and the closest you'll get to that price point is the Benjamin Discovery kit. Great kit, great gun, great value.
