  • i love marys voice from this era, her stuff now sounds different, not sure i like it... love this stuff though, could stay listening to it all day

  • "were you thirst and hunger, for justice right" This wins it for me.1981

  • Lovely. We saw her in Dingle in 2002, superb.

  • remember to Steve Jobs !

  • my sister attended college along with Marys daughter..There,s somewere on youtube she brings her daughter on stage..This girl has the passion were ALL looking for.

Incedentlly..No Frontiers sugar coats me with a political point..It remembers me of the Hunger Strikes of 1981...My thoughts only..And no!!! I don,t have a link for the politically correct..

  • such a touching song !! amazing !

  • How many people sing this song and yet dont listen to the lyric .Jimmy Mc Carthy truely knows how to write beautiful lyrics and tell a story at the same time .then its handed over to Mary where she wraps her emotions around it and shares the voice of her heart with us .

  • @framethis rock on framethis!

  • This song brings me back to my childhood in rural Ireland, I can't even describe it in words, it only exists within the feelings of nostalgia. An Ireland of warmth, pride, community. It makes me so sad that Ireland has transformed into a Faux-American materialistic hub. What happened to the humble Ireland of meitheal? The Ireland I loved.

  • @Codarsnacht : I completely agree with U.I'm french,i lived in Donegal,20 years ago,& loved her songs at once.Hearing this reminds me the true country, true people, natural & far from rapacity for power & money.Long live to people like U.Good luck in life.

  • @Codarsnacht So true mate! My mother used to play this in the car all the time, it just defines my childhood growing up in rural Donegal

  • @Codarsnacht - so truely said - but just one word answers it, "Greed".

  • Beautiful singing, amazing soulful melody. This was a much overlooked song by "the masses". Thank you Mary. Your work stands strong and lovely.

  • now more than ever we need the lyrics of people like Mary Black. She depicts the real Ireland. Unfortunately Ireland is no more!!

  • I met Mary Black some 27 years ago as a singer that was going places, i must be honest, i didn't actually know her at the time by sight. I soon realized who she was and I have always loved her music ever since, so thanks for the great songs over the years Mary..

  • Such a good life affirming song.

  • nobody can sing like mary black one in a million

  • We played this at my fathers funeral, I think he would have approved

  • wonderful

  • MARY SHOULD ENTER EUROVISION

    LOVE HER SINGING

  • CHE DOLCE FANTASTICA CANZONE......QUANTI RICORDI...GRAZIE

  • Would anyone be able to give me the meaning behind these lyrics? They are so beautiful. Thank you x

  • @hunnibunni7000 i have always heard it as a song to and for someone who is dead or, more likely, facing death. the great thing about songs is, although it's interesting to know what the writer intended, whatever meaning the song has for you is just as valid.

  • @hunnibunni7000 The song is about making the most of life – ‘No Frontiers’.

  • @hunnibunni7000 - One of the few songs that consistently sends shivers up the back of my neck everytime I hear it - sung by Mary Black that is - the version on her album is actually even more amazing than this video. It's always felt to me to be about finding the courage to move through our doubts, fears, real-world tragedies or self-inflicted illusions, whatever life throws at us she's saying we can transcend, she can see it in our eyes even if we don't. Convincing me every time!

  • Another soulful song THANK YOU MARY

  • she is good, i can feel her music

  • jimmy mc carty. one of the greatest songwriters of all time.

  • She can reach my soul and that makes her special.

  • "I have seen heaven in your eyes"......makes me thinking about a (ex) girlfriend which I miss very often.....

    MISS YOU!

  • One of her best songs, however, this recording is poor quality and does not do her justice.

  • One of her best songs!!!

  • THIS what great singing is about amazing!!!!

  • I LOVE her voice. I think she could sing just about anything and make it work.

  • I was introduced to this song when I saw the Corrs perform in Boston a few years ago. For whatever reason, I simply haven't taken the time to listen to another performer sing this since that night, and I regret the wasted time. This fine lady is amazing and I wish I had listened to her a long time ago. Wonderful voice. Absolutely wonderful.

  • have seen mary black four times and in my opinion is the greatest female artist ever to come out of ireland.

  • Been lucky enough to see her a few times.Still think the best was her Babes In The Wood tour. She was supported by The Rankin Family at Edinburgh Usher Hall. Simply unforgetable.

  • wow!!! forget Susan Boyle, and all these others singers. Mary has a pure and beautiful voice. She is awesome and fantastic. I would love to see her oneday!

  • my brother died in canada! everytime i phoned him he used to say 'are you listening to mary black, no frontiers again' and i always was. l loved him but sure he's gone and my husband understands that love we had. oh my God it sounds a bit pervy but it was just fraternal love

    I still miss him

  • Perpetual light shine upon him

  • @FreedomSaoirse

    hey small world....we're youtube friends,lol

  • FreedomSaoirse, watch out for this ImagesByDavid aka the infamous David Hayes... known to Irish police as the closet rapist. He would hide in women's bedroom closets & then pop out & you know what.

  • @Y0UMADAFAKA What the fuck is your problem? You sound like an illegal immigrant. You really do need manners put upon you wanker

  • The best ever female singer to come out of Ireland. Seen Mary about 18 - 20 times in concert , she is the best and did more for songwriters in Ireland than anyone esle ever did .

  • Saw her in Salthill, Galway in the late 80s. Breathtaking. No miming ;-)

  • beautiful! thanks for sharing, James :-)

  • love this version great post thanks first time ive heard it

  • much prefer sharon and caroline corrs version

  • i love this girl

  • this song is horribly sad

  • i like the corrs version better

  • the corrs don't have a version exactly - they copy Mary's version. But yes, Andrea's voice is somehow finer..

  • It's not Andrea singing this song... actually is a duet of Sharon and Caroline...

  • What I'd seen was a duet with Andrea and Caroline

  • But you're wrong.... is Sharon and Caroline... look for the video and see it for yourself!

    ;-)

  • You're right. Just saw it again..I'd been watching it thinking it was Andrea.

    Thanks

  • U´re welcome!

  • it's not Andrea... Caroline & Sharon sing it

  • You're right. It was my mistake, one of those many times I'm sure I'm not mistaken but I was. Thanks.

  • great song always gets me going!! mary is very talented and should get alot more publicity in ireland!!

  • love this song!!!! very touching!!

    love mary black....

  • I think song was written for Mary.Jimmy does that for many irish artists and of all versions i still love hers the best.

  • Not sure if this could have been written for her. The bit about "your heart is Amelia, dying to fly" suggests that it is a song about a woman, to be sung by a male singer (she has done other explicitly female-focussed songs, like Katie and Carolina Rua). Jimmy McCarthy has done three albums of his own, and this is on the second of them (The Dreamer, 1994).

  • Actually written about, and for, his mother Betty. An amazing woman who saw everything as being possible. AFAIK she actually learned to fly long before most women would dream of such a thing. Hence the reference to Amelia (Earhart). If you listen to the words you will hear a lot of 'motherly' references.

  • Thanks for that interesting bit of info. I first heard this song in 1992 after my nan gave my Mum the Mary Black "Collection" tape, and a while later I got hold of Joni Mitchell's Hejira album from 1976, which also includes a song called Amelia, referring to the same person. It had me scratching my head wondering if she was some mythological character, since I'd not heard of Amelia Earhart and neither song mentions her surname.

  • this song needs a sweeter voice..... not sayin i cud do it better!

  • Are you serious? Mary Black's voice is great and Sinnott's arrangement is lovely. Great song.

  • lie down you will ye only mary black has the voice for it

  • okay i can admit wen im wrong i just listend 2 dis again 4 de first time since 5 months ago and i do like it now... i had thought her voice was a wee bit harsh but i dont see it now... it just seems powerful!

  • your forgiven

  • excellent irish singer...amazing

  • This song will always remind me of someone who is no longer with us but will always be heaven in my eyes...xxx

  • Underrated song deserving mucho airplay.

  • Uou... this song is soooo big...

    "...heaven knows no frontiers

and I've seen heaven in your eyes..."
