How would you feel if you're an aspiring engineer who has devoted twice that to his craft, but you're self aware of how horribly short you come compared to the work of the standards set by those before you, and some crap like this wins a contest? He's not worthy of this recognition.

@DannyJaureguiMusic85 Bottom line is, you are too easily impressed by things you know not enough about to judge fairly. He's worthless compared to the guy who placed third. That guy built his own guitar, in an alternate tuning, and plays in a unique style that hasn't been done and redone a thousand times. Mozart was composing copy cat music as a child that was ten times as complex as this "song." Hundreds of years later, this receives acclaim? How about a sense of progress...

Kind of a prat. Easy song, and the lyrics are a cheap shot in the sense that everyone loves the global peace spin. Not to mention he's dressed in a tight v neck and skinny jeans.

That's what fingerstyle guitar used to be before the influx of "musicians" like this kid turned it into watery chord progressions that make you cringe at how little emotion they possess.

@nipcka His "emotion" is a repetitive series of notes and slapping. The singing is pretty, oh, great, GUITAR competition. Singing is irrelevant. This excuse for music is obviously in no way related to classical guitar playing, other than a loose similarity in technique. They use their fingers to strum. Woah, so alike. He seems to know very little about music other than the general rules of consonance that can be taught in a day. This isn't hate, this is critique.

@weasel4915 The beautiful thing about music is that one elitist jerk doesn't get to decide how a song is relevant to each individual. The same song can mean 1000 different things to 1000 different people. So you can sit there and try to put him down and belittle his work, but it doesn't make you right. You seem to be under the impression that complex is the same as good. Some of the best songs ever written were very simple, yet they moved people. You need to get over yourself.

@schosmosis We have fundamental differences in what makes music "good," which doesn't make you right. So you can sit there and belittle my logical, constructive criticism of this "musician," or try to understand my point of view so that we may have a productive discussion.

I can definitely see why you would think that a song's value is determined by how it moves and inspires people. This is a more practical opinion on music. As a musician, music is more important to me than that.

I personally don't like this, but i know some people do, but that's the same with all music, but you're point is that he's bad since he doesn't use complicated enough guitar mechanics, are you saying because the third placed guy built his guitar should given a handicap? @weasel4915 what he makes doesn't sound like the music that's already been made that you consider "good music"......isn't that usually the beginning of a break through of "forward progress"? it's when someone steps out of what's already been considered good and deemed acceptable to create a new modern era of style and/or taste. maybe i'm wrong. maybe the forward progress you're thinking of means "complex" or "dire straights" (which has already been done by the way)

@weasel4915 and you said he's only been playing for two years. maybe he's at a growth stage in his musical development where he's trying to find that one road that hasn't been taken yet. he still has some progress to make and things to learn of course that's what music is about. don't criticize him before he's finished his work. he's still young. he won't be done for another few decades so get off his back about it.
