It is uplifting to see progress in German technology. However, the vital need for subsidies, in lieu of a sustainable business paradigm, is an avenue for such programmes, in underdeveloped regions, to fall prey to the integral moral hazard, and fail in the long term, as per the local understanding of the outcome. So although Schott can claim a large scale feasibility study for its products, New Mexico indigents get to become disillusioned.

Not all the time :-) You have to be careful about ascribing what is essentially attributable to the genius of individuals, to where they may happen to be living and working. Nevertheless, Germany does have a deserved reputation for technical innovation. As Switzerland has for precision engineering. The British for invention. Etc., etc.
