  • Diana looked VERY skinny in this performance...Flo and Mary sings amazingly good

  • I've missed the supremes. I wish I could meet them all, but I'll settle for Diana and Mary.

  • Children, calm down. It's just great music and part of our cultural history! Suave!

  • THE BEST OF THE BEST.

    TOP OF THE HEAP.

    A CLASS OF THEIR OWN.

    TRUE CLASS.

    ULTIMATE STYLE.

  • This was THE CLASS ACT of the time and still to this day.

No other group could touch them.

They were and still are the gold standard.

  • thay where so awesome

  • listen to florence she sings so beautifully high.the supremes arenot diana ross the supremes were florences group.the supremes arenot mary wilson mary has done alot of work for the heart foundation.the supremes were not florence ballard although she brought them together.the supremes are three young girls who found each other and became apart of history.i was so taken with them because back then we never seen black women with so much class. we were still playing maids and hookers. thanx you

  • If people would turn their filters on before they started typing the bickering wouldn't get so bad. I, for one, have a mouth like a truck driver, but I'm not gonna curse out a Diana Ross fan because I love Florence Ballard. Think before u type....Oh yea, and big ups to TORRESONGS2 for the post below.........

  • Supremes Fans: Please stop wasting time bickering and use those fingers to write to whomever owns the rights to these specials and get them released on DVD!

  • I think this all so immature. At first I thought it was cute and funny, but as I try to enjoy these Supremes videos I continue to see these stupid, asinine posts on EVERY SINGLE VIDEO!!! It's OK to have an opinion, but DAMN, why is there so much freakin hatred. Are you people dedicating your lives to building up one while tearing down the other? Can't we just build up The Supremes?! As I recall there were three Supremes at any given time.

  • Oh Extra2000, We all know you're Miss Mary's Mouthpeice, Diana Ross made sure Flo & Miss Mary both had a Homes for themselves & Their Children & has lent a Hand to Cindy Birdsong over the years too, I really don't know what you expect from this woman, I doubt you have ever met the Standard of Diana Ross, when it comes to being a Friend or Compassionate Human Being,

Could your real name be Turkessa?

  • @jazzscherzo YOU ARE BARKING UP THE WRONG TREE GRANY ..ON SO MANY LEVELS, DON'T USE POPPERS DON'T HAVE HIV AND DON'T TRAVEL IN THOSE CIRCLES. AS SEEING HOW YOU MENTION ED THE PHRASE.. ..".GIVE OUT A DICK AND NOT BEING ABLE TO TAKE ONE," WE NOW KNOW WHAT STREET YOU RIDE ON.SINCE YOU BELIEVE THAT THIS STARTED WITH AN ATTACK ON DIANA. LETS END THIS ON THE SAME NOTE. CHECK OUT THE TV SHOW OUTER LIMITS THE ONE WITH WILL SHATNER ASTRONUT ON VENUS HE ALSO CO STARS WITH DIANA WILD HAIR BIG EYES SKINNY

  • @jazzscherzo You keep trying to bait me for some reason, but this time I will concede that this issue of the two of them being compared is pointless. Whenever someone brings up a fault with Diana, you quickly try to use Mary as a reference. as though Mary and Diana are battling forces of nature that have disturbed the universe.it's only the posters here who keep stirring up trouble or at least trying to. I will only end this with.... Hmmmmmmmm!

  • In Addition Miss Extra2000, You don't address the Fact that you Block anyone attempting to Spread Love & Cheer towards Miss Mary & at the same time expect to be able to Spew about Diana Ross wherever you go, THAT IS 2 FACED, Miss Mary is no doubt Proud of you

  • Extra2000 You have as much insight as Forest Gump, Diana Ross is being "Paid Back" for Suffering imposed on Others? Lets read The Menu, She's a Superstar, Cindy is just making ends meet, Miss Mary passed up 4 Million bucks to sing @ Wedding Receptions & Retirement Homes, Diana has 5 Beautiful, Talented, Articulate & Educated Children, Mary ran over one, Another is in & out of Jail & one is over 400lb's with no idea what a job is, (still living with/off Mama Mary)

  • @jazzscherzo and how exactly is expressing an opinion or even having one considered to be "TWO FACED"? I watch Diana's vidz, but rarely her solo ones and as far as Mary, I don't mention Mary's talent as it has been well documented as to the extent that they exist..Diana whenever she appears seems to be the lonlyest person on any stage regardless of how many people surround her. She is being paid back for her endless sufferings imposed on others.

  • @jazzscherzo I will gladly give Diana the credit she deserves for providing the "gltiter and Glam" that her admirers worship, but RESPECT is something that Miss Ross will never have from me and no doubt fromothers as well; as she has done so many wrongs to so many people in ways.that can never be forgiven.. few, if any of her fellow Motown artists and staff can say that they have love for miss D.. either then or now. .

  • @jazzscherzo They are only annoyed, but these Diana fanatics, no mercy from them, they will slaughter any comments less than godlike praise & adoration for the SUPREME SUPREME> Let's just honor all the LADIES and have no more of the squabbling. that seems to pop up all over their sites.

  • @jazzscherzo "TIME CONSUMING" ? Just pointless to encourage posters to mindlessly attack each other. If someone wants or has a desire to make a comment concerning Miss Ross or Miss Wilson, I have never had a problem with it, in fact I don't think anyone has blocked this Big Bear person because so far he limits his attacks to Mary falling on slighlty bemused Mary fans.

  • @jazzscherzo Again, it's only posters who repeatedly use extreme vulgarities towards other posters and waste of reading time that get removed. Diana can take care of herself, no need to stifle her atacks, or her attackers.. her supporters can strike for her defense at will. and they often do. with extreme prejudice.

  • @jazzscherzo I have learned as have many posters that we take our "YOUTUBE LIFE" in our hands if we should dare to critque MISS ROSS.Never the less, I am so greatful for the beautiful day today and that that hideous heat that has plagued the East coast has gone that I have no hard feelings for anyone. and even good enough to say that I LOVE YOU TOO ! but if the heat comes back and I get in my mood, LOOK OUT cause I 'm coming after you swinging (LOL)

  • @jazzscherzo As I posted earlier ( and I am glad to see that you have calmed down a bit), that Mary can never come close to anything that Diana has done. Mary is a "struggling" singer, struggling actress, struggling performer, yet she has managed to sustain herself quite nicely. for that I give her. her recognition as a true survivor. her stage shows are sometimes sad images of thrown together fabrics mixed with "renta backups" but she still. touches her audience.

  • @jazzscherzo I don't block anyone from any of my sites unless they continue to use total vulgarity against another poster. I have been blocked for just disliking a performance. My world does not end with youtube comments. And where did you get that analogy of "Taking a ###k and giving one, or whatever that meant. never heard that before. And yes Mary's gowns are pathetic, her shows are done on a string budget, her background help is second rate, but damm she cares enough to keep on truckin !!

  • Only the Strongest Micro organisms can actually live in Miss Mary's "Cooch", It's a Toxic Enviroment, My "Problem" is seeing Diana Ross Diminished to Elevate those that EXPLOITED her for the almighty buck, I really don't have much to say about any other Supreme, Mary is Duplicitous & Back Stabbing, Grandiose & Manipulative

  • I really don`t Care MeetTheSupremes, You know the rule, 1 Nasty Diana Ross Comment = 2 for Miss Mary, It's Time to give Credit where Credit is do, Miss Mary is not all that "Comfortable", what she has is due mostly the Reflected Glory of others

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear What are you trying to imply? What rule is this? You disrespect any Supreme from Florence to Susaye and I will not hesitate to take action. What is your problem? Why are you dedicating your life to hating on Mary? I don't think she needs you living up in her cooch.

  • Well Extra2000, Lets go back, for a Very Special

    MARY WILSON MOMENT (Flashback) 1982

"Diane", It's Mary, I destoyed "The Supremes" back in 1977, My man Left my Ass & I snorted all the Money up my Nose, Me & The Babies is Homeless, God Help me!, I needs to feed my Babies!, Pleeeze Give me a Handout to Buy a House & a Chin Implant, Pleeze, Pleeze, I'll write a Nasty Book about you, so I can pay you Back, I Promise!!!!

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear Please grow the fuck up. Really miss thang? You think spending endless hours bashing Mary is going to impact her comfortable life? What do you think it says about you?

  • @MeetTheSupremes DAMN, MTS, I've never seen you this angry. As I posted earlier, it's very childish and immature to insult and tear down one to build the other up. I had my fair share of insulting comments in the past, but I grew up and realized how much I love The Supremes as a group. I greatly appreciate the effort you put into these videos, especially Flo's, in whom I have mad affection for. Please, keep posting these videos, and don't let those jerks discourage you from doing so.

  • good god at about 3 17 miss ross looks exactly like a child from BIAFRA !

  • MANOHMAN. i had almost forgotten what SUPREMELY superior performers they were. THANK GOD for the existence of youtube! the VISUAL at "WITH A SONG IN MY HEART"/diana as the letter "I" the HEART in the middle/mary&florence to complete says it for me: I LOVE THE SUPREMES!!! stay away from me with all that crack, gossipy, who sang better CRAP. they were what they were and we ARE the BETTER for it!!!

  • If they did have Crack in the 60's, Miss Mary surely would of Found it

  • @TheReturnOfBigBear looks here to me;;; that it was Diana who got into the crack BIG BEAR !!

  • Did they have Crack in the Sixties?

  • Uh, Diana looks a wee bit too skinny here. Yuck. I'm surprised they didn't have the foresight to have them wear gowns with long sleeves

  • i see at 3:40 flo found it funny like bitch please i can blow this if i wanted...Honey!!!

  • @corlos19 maybe flo's voice was too strong to sing lead on the light pop material like "Baby Love," but she was perfectly suited for some of this show tune music they performed. Like Diana Ross even said, Florence could have had an opera career if she had the money and knowledge to go through with it.

  • flo's overpowering them :D later she holds herself back a little...

  • LOVE hearing the girls all singing together on these songs.

    Thank you for posting.

  • The Supremes are still one of my favorite girl groups. They were classy and the Song Writers wrote super lyrics and instrumentation. Their music will withstand time.

Give credit where credit is due. The music of the 60s was extraordinary and these women worked it. Yes, They Are A Class ACt.

  • does anyone have the supremes official fan button?

  • This is great! The three parts equals the magic! Actually Turner's book was one of the most enjoyable-i.e. funny -book's about Motown. Of course he embellishes who could remember exact conversations from 25 years before??? His tales of Florence holding court, driving to the airport, and singing People at the top of her lungs in her dressing room are just smashing!! That would be the best movie!!

  • it doesn't seem physically possible to be as thin as Diana is, lol.

  • The best female music group of all the time!!!

  • The Supremes were classy ladies, unlike the more modern girl groups and female performers. It bugs me when Destiny's Child or like groups (TLC, En Vogue, etc) are compared to the girls. Even to compare Mariah Carey to the Supremes is blasphemous if you ask me. Diana, Mary, and Florence had it going on! They epitoomized true talent. They could and did perform what ever they wanted and have it come out right. Just listen to their harmonies!

  • @proverbs1824 This is where I disagree with you. Yes, The Supremes were classier BUT the T I M E S were classier. Destiny's Child is the 2000s equivalent and they inspired and entertained A LOT of people - including myself, an avid fan. I totally understand you not wanting them to be associated b u t they have made a very big impact and I respect them for that and I feel you should too. All the members of DC who now have solo careers - Beyonce, Kelly Rowland, Michelle Williams and LeToya...

  • @MeetTheSupremes I agree, and disagree with your statment. Times have changed, but does that mean that performers HAVE to be kind of trashy now (male or female), or that they CAN be? They CAN be, no doubt, but MUST they be under the pain of a gunshot to the head? :-) Not to mention, do videos HAVE to show 1/2 second montages of artists, as opposed to a whole performance?

  • @shmuli9 I'm not saying I condone everything that goes on - but Destiny's Child were and STILL ARE better than most. You won't see, Beyonce, Kelly, Michelle or LeToya posted anywhere for doing something stupid and you sure as hell won't hear them put out mediocre music or hit a wrong note.

  • @MeetTheSupremes I can respect your opinion. I'm just old fashioned. The Supremes were classy in that they could exude "sexiness" without rubbing it in your face. Do you know what I mean? Todays girl groups (like DC) flaunted it (I mean, come on, lap dancing? And, then thanking Jesus for their success?).

  • @proverbs1824 DC flaunted it yes, but like I mentioned the music and entertainment industry all reflects the society and time in which its made...Destiny's Child were probably the classiest and most talented girl-group of the past decade...I've had the pleasure of meeting Michelle Williams twice and she is absolutely lovely. Also, notice how none of the DC girls are ever posted in the media for doing stupid stuff...they are more respectable then they get credit for.

  • @MeetTheSupremes you are right about that. I don't deny that DC was talented. Probably the more talented of the female groups of modern times than any other. I loved Beyonce in "Dreamgirls". She also did a great job in Cadiallac Records playing Etta James. Nope. There is no denying the talent all the girls of DC have. And, I guess we can say thank you to Beyonce's parents for keeping them out of the tabloids!

  • @proverbs1824 ...prove that they clearly have great talent that stands head-and-shoulders above most of the music out there at the moment. I love The Supremes and I love Destiny's Child and I don't feel they need to be compared because they are both very different but managed to make a great and lasting impact in their times.

  • @proverbs1824 AMEN! The Supremes are THE ALPHA and THE OMEGA of ALL female singing groups!!!

  • @proverbs1824 U speak the truth!

  • Loverly stuff

  • I love the Rodgers and Hart album!! Spring Is Here is my favorite but from this video I love My Romance. Love the close up of Diana! They did polish up her stage presence from the earlier days and it paid off, glad Berry decided to show the world that the black girls from Detroit could sing anything!!!

  • I love the shows that Gordy didn't participate in with regards to the sound levels. You can really hear The Supremes as a trio.

  • It's like a wall of sound smashing into you!

    love it :D

  • What? You can hear Mary & Flo?!

They are at their best here.

  • Erm, MeetTheSupremes . . Can i ask . . Where do you get you videos from?

I mean apart from the ones on my channel, i am going though a video dry spell :P

  • i dont really like this kind of stuff but LOVER i like the way they sung it. harmonies perfect. thats y i love the supremes. Flo's mi girl

  • @MrKwEsI91 Yes, Diana's sweet, jazzy vocal kept the polish of the song while Flo and Mary really injected some Motown/Detroit soul into it! I must post the studio recording of this because at the end Flo and Mary belt out WHAT A LOVER OH YES HE IS! =D

    Thanks for commenting =)

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • I must admit DraTS sounded better as a group as opposed to when Flo and Mary became merely back up for Diana

  • @BlogShag

    UHHH NO THEY DIDN'T!

  • @afghanboyqeas Yes she is also very clear on the studio version - which I most post soon =) LOVE the Rodgers & Hart album! =D in fact I did a cover of The Lady Is A Tramp and posted that lol.

  • @MeetTheSupremes

    OH!

Erm BlogShag is on your video, PLEASE delete and block him. he's no good, all he does is say how amazing diane is!

and get rid of best1forward as well. there as bad as each other.

  • Diana looks distinctly anorexic here. Anyone would look fat standing next to her. They shouldn't have had them wearing sleveless gowns

  • Diana was far more versatile a singer and performer than most.

  • @pnyc1969 Yes, The Supremes were in general. They went from Doo-Wop, Soul and R&B to Pop and Showtunes =) Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • Diana is only 22 years old here. And Florence and Mary are either 22 or 23 years old here. It's a credit to them they could sing these grown up standards so convincingly at such a young age.

Berry said Diana Ross and the Supremes were the only group on his roster who expressed such a profound interest in singing material that was other than soul/pop music, and they weren't afraid to sing anytime, anywhere, in front of anybody

  • yep i think ur right diane & Mary are 22 and flo is 23. i love flo

  • @BlogShag

    That's The Supremes to you!

    it wasn't drats until 67.

  • @SinclairisCool, I know, but realistically it was DraTs long before that...

  • @pnyc1969

    What about Florence and Mary?

    Or even Jean Terell?

  • @afghanboyqeas Don't like Diana in that wig, looks funny lol. Mary's one too is un-flattering, makes her look older. Flo's one is the only reasonable-looking one.

  • .....seems diana.... always got her way....!

  • It blows my mind Berry was calling Flo "fat" at this point - maybe she was drinking too much and causing trouble but she most definitely was NOT fat.

  • If you're ever in New York, you can go to the Museum of Television and Broadcasting and watch this whole special--for free. It's amazing.

  • really? I would love to :D

  • supremes sing rogers and heart needs more radio airing.

  • @vivahb1970 Oh yes, great album. The producers really used all 3 voices on that one, changing up the arrangements (having Flo sing low and Mary high on a few) =D

  • Thank you. all their LPs and singles are on high grade Vinyl and sound clear &fresh. ttfn

  • Tonys book was the worst out of all the ones written about the supremes. just a big ole fat drag queen who wish he was a female.

  • It was. A pack of lies, damned lies and half truths! Kinda funny though. He had no photos to substantiate any sustained contact with Flo! (?). Doubtful. His parents let him run all over North America to follow his adult friend? Sure, Tony.

  • I haven't read it yet but that's what I got from the reviews I read of the book on Amazon

  • Could they get flo any further from the mic by 3:25?

  • Lol it didn't matter too much because I think the audio was pre-recorded live and then they just lip-synced for the show.

  • great performance! Is there a dvd with this & others on it? I just purchased reflections @ walmart & I'm in love with the (original) supremes:)

  • Sadly there isn't =(

Thanks for commenting though - I love em too.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • to bad they didnt include these performances on that cd.they had great harmomy.

  • =D No other lineup could come close to the sound the originals had together! (However I must say Jean, Mary and Cindy really do slay Bridge Over Troubled Water with their impeccable harmonies).

    Have a nice day.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • if television makes people look 15 pounds heavier and imagine those old tv cameras how they made small studios look much larger than they were, then try and imagine how shockingly thin Diana must have appeared in person..

  • Good point.

  • Look again at Diana at about 1:12. This must have been around the time she collapsed on stage.

  • Maybe that's why Diana didn't want to stand next to the other girls, it made her look too thin, standing far away from them made her look a bit more presentable.

  • Maybe...but they were all skinny (even Flo) up to 1964 and then Flo and Mary's bodies developed and grew curves that were very visible by 1966 LOL.

  • I could eat myself out of house and home when I was as old as Diana is here, and I was just as thin. Some people have high metabolisms, top that with the incredible stress these girls must have been under. She may be thin, but she's not malnourished. Being so thing for so long, I can understand

  • Diana collapsed on stage???

  • Yes.. Diana just dropped to the floor and was rushed to a hospital. Must of been like that scene in Lady sings the Blues. I guess Diana remembered that moment and recreated it in the film. Too overworked and too thin.

  • Oh yes and didn't Flo go to see her =)

  • Flo shouldn't have gone to see that woman. Afterall she didn't help Flo while she was struggling.

  • Yes Flo went to see Diana at the hospital.

she was told in 1968 by the nurses that Diana had been horrible to them, closing the door in their face and acting like a baby.

Flo said to Diana's defense "Well she was sick"

  • Yes because Flo had her twins at the same hospital

  • with a wig on my head 24/7 , I would probably faint too... :D

  • I wonder how they did it the lights and those heavy human hair wigs and the caps on those wigs were thick I remember them because I used to work in a wig shop in the 60s,Terrible!!!!!

  • lol I think your head is 5 kilos heavier and feels a half meter broader if you wear one of them...

however everyone weard wigs in the 60's didn't them?

  • I saw Mary's brilliant collection and I couldn't believe how small the dresses were!!! =O xD To think I am taller than The Supremes is mind-boggling. They really do look bigger on screen LOL

  • tony is the guy who would write the dressing room scenes and all the reall good dirt dish,, He is shameless, He hinted that he had sex with Berry Gordy on national television !!

  • LOL. Still, I don't know if I want to get the book as people say it's just made up because there are no pics of him with the group to prove he ever toured with them - and also why would any parents let their 12yr old tour around with The Supremes (and also why would Flo confide in him)...

  • I haven't seen the book in years but I do remember a photo of him with Cindy birdsong and I believe he "KNEW" Berry as there was a photo of him, plus Mary mentions him in her book as this kid who would always discover which hotel they were trying to hide in as he would call up and pretend to be their press secreatry or something like that. I do believe he got quite a lot of "dish" and he wrote in a style that would confirm other reports of how the LADIES interacted with each other.

  • I believe him. he also stated that their hotel rooms were scattered far away from each other which is something heard on THE UNSUNG Florenece Balard story last week years before these tapes were released so he must know quite a lot. and Damm he was bold enough to say and write that he saw Sammy Davis jr. and Mary snorting cocaine!!/ I think Sammy was still alive when the book came out, but I am not sure ..I just remember it. You should get it.

  • You know I really should - and Mary's and Peter's. I can't believe such an avid Flo and Supremes fan like me still does not own a single book about them LOL xD

  • THERE are a lot of books on ebay, try tio200. they had a complete colectionl of cds and dvds and books for about $30

  • Ooo thanks for the info =D

I need to make a PayPal account though =S

  • he was fruity as they could come. he Wished he could had sex with berry gordy. didnt happen..he was jus a lil queen which grew into a big queen. and a lyer. there is no pics of him Included in a supremes photo. that is why his book went no where.

  • I wish those masters of obtaining these videos would teach us so maybe the rest of us could help rescue some local videos.. do you work in some video vault, were you former editors ??

  • Omg if only I did!

You know where I want to spend a day (or even a week or month!)

THE MOTOWN VAULTS! omg I want to get Flo's solo recordings (all the takes and mixes) because apparently that's where there are...

  • BUT somehow some folkes have access to treasures unthought of. How do they even know what to look for? I realize that back 20 years ago there were videos and records that noone wanted and were left abandoned maybe they were scheduled to be released but wound up just projects abandoned. Who rescued them? where is the Diana ross carroll burnette Lucille Ball video with the three of them stitched into one dress ala Supremes? I go by description of what I read.

  • WOW! Flo is on fire! I just can't take my eyes off of her.

  • She sure is!

And it's what would be her birthday tomo!

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • they all had stage present but diana u gotta admit the first one are the one you were looking at the most was her the big sparkling eyes her thin shape that huge ass smile that cover her face flo and mary backing voices where soulful diana voice was pop to push them far

  • I agree. What seemed like awkwardness in the beginning was the uniqueness that helped Diana to become the legend she is today.

    I love a l l of them and right now I am having EARGASMS to Diana's a m a z i n g, truly a m a z i n g version of AIN'T NO MOUNTAIN HIGH ENOUGH.

    Thanks ever so much for commenting and have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • Personally I've always preferred Mary's voice the best but I have to agree that Diana has the best "state presence" - She really stands out - Although Mary is great when given the chance.

  • Oh yes Mary is amazing - her vocal performance on ONE NIGHT WITH YOU is breathtaking =D

  • No she couldnt have done it alone. You must give the wigs credit to.

  • Diana's voice sounds so crystal clear and in key. It's easy to see why she became a 'SUPERSTAR'.

  • Most definately - and the group's class, sophistication, beauty (and of course their voices) makes it easy to see why they have become the best female G R O U P of all time =)

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • She had a singing style that could fit many categories. Not too many singers have that kind of talent. The proof is in her (Diana's) hits and their hits. Diana has had hits in the following categories: classical, pop, soul, disco, ballads, jazz, show tunes, etc..

  • The best !

  • Most definately.

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • It's the truth after all.

These girls were pure talent, class and magic.

Still in a league of their own ... and that's a VERY major league I'm referring to.

  • Can't see Diane's body behind that mic stand.

  • LOL xD you're too funny xD

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG | JonathanLGardner

  • lol

  • Saying how pretty flo was, better voice, better lookin body..how shallow all of you are. as if thats all it took(ALOT OF FOLKS CAN SING) Jus watchin diane it wasnt solely based on the voice..look at the stage presence..look at the last pose of her in the middle. flo and mary were good but clearly one cant keep their eyes off the one in the middle who isnt the prettiest or loudest but certainly u cant stop watching her.even mary said diane had a certain way of moving that caught the eye.

  • Any of my comments talking about Flo's gifts/talents were only to support my view that Flo had what it took to be a successful solo artist at the time =S

  • He is just another troll, i saw his disgusting comments on another video lol

  • I can't take my eyes off Flo's curves.

  • I know right

  • Very true.

The group was awesome and Diana just did her best as did Mary and Florence. No need to argue about it ... Diana was star material ... but she could not have done it alone.

It took these three girls to make the magic.

  • Thanks =D

Blackshepherd09 has some serious issues with Flo - xD I should send you the messages I got from blackshepherd09 (so bitter)

  • I agree Diane just had that "star quality"! There is no way to get around it!! There are just people who have the raw natural talent that takes them many places and on to stardom!

  • Diana stood out. She had that something that superstars have. It's not easy to pin point. She was special and different. And the timing was right. This was during the civil rights movement for black people in the USA. To see three beautiful ,successful black women on TV ALL THE TIME, was probably a shock to many people. As pathetic as that sounds, it's probably true.

  • Diana is something to watch for sure ... such stage mastery and charisma ...BUT the chemistry between ALL three girls seemed to combine into an unbeatable force .. something new, something really big that hadn't been seen before.

And the result was TOP, TOP,TOP!!!!

  • Most definately BotMai =)

    Thanks for commenting.

  • Gladys Knight once said that the Supremes weren't a "girl group" they were a "ladies group". They way they carried themselves was a cut above their contemporaries. They were just different.

  • OMG that is T H E way to describe them!

    Wow, thanks for that comment.

    Have a wonderfully s u p r e m e day.

    - JLG [JonathanLGardner]

  • They sure are A Ladies Group;)

  • Comment removed

  • Onece again I say this was the 60's. The Supremes being young women and naive to the business did not have to much say so. Berry knew what he was doing when he was building his empire. Some people will say that The Vandellas or the Three Degrees or some other female groups. Bottom line is right place right time. All three Supremes had a certain charm about them that click with every one. Diana need the Supremes and Mary Flo needed Diana.

  • LOV FLO @ 4:47/50 .... almost laughing when she lost her note ....so cute.

    RIP SUPREME FLO!

  • I love Flo too.

It's in performances like this that you can hear how much her rich voice added to the great, sound of the group.

    Thanks for commenting.

    - JLG [JonathanLGardner]

  • There is no 4:47....

  • meant 3:47/50

    Flo is so cute.....RIP

  • LOL I was thinking that!

  • Flo had talent Flo could have been another Aretha, her voice was so much like Aretha. Back then Aretha was not that big yet. I do believe Mary did not support Flo. Had Mary sided with Flo Barry & Diana would have had to do things different. In reality I think Mary was worse than Diana as she tried to stir up controversy and blame it all on Diana and make more than it was. Mary is spineless and thats coming from a very true Supremes fan, Flo was not asked back into the group after Diana left.

  • Mary's voice was just as talented as the other two back then perhaps, but her voice has always been the blandest one of the three

  • @BlogShag i agree with all your comments. diana was versatile and that suited the kind of music berry wanted. the other two had good voices that suited the songs but aftr diana left, even with jean, the supremes had lost some gloss.

  • its just a shame Flo couldn't have held on... just a couple more years,.. and been there at the Frontier Hotel saying goodbye to Miss Ross...then taking lead, and we could still have her with us.... oh, well.. would could have been....

  • Quite a shame...but then again, Flo had what it took to be a very successful solo artist - the presence, the charisma, the voice, the looks.

I just wish she had signed with Motown - even if they shelved her stuff at least ALL of it would have really shown off Flo's voice

  • Flo voice is OK...I have never heard anything that she has done that would say she was a great voice. Even her speaking voice was not that great. I think she and Mary were bitter over Diana's success. They should have been greatful to have been along for the ride. They were both good. Just not star material.

  • They weren't bitter at all. Mary was the one who was more than happy to stand in the back as long as she was in the lights. Flo was not. Flo did have star potential, but no one payed any attention to it.

Flo was much prettier and more polished than many of the females out there making hits at the time and Flo could not only sing R&B very well (Forever Faithful) but Pop also (listen to Everything Wonderful).

All she needed was to have the rights to mention her SUPREME past and a BETTER MANAGER

  • THANK YOU FOR YOUR COMMENTS. MANY PEOPLE FORGET THAT FLO DID HAVE TALENT. THEY ALL DID PERIOD, When the talent is not fueled to the flame, it burns out. Diana is a perfect example. If we all compared her Meet the Supremes vocals to the WDOLG to R&H there is growth there because of Berry, but unfortunately, Berry wasn't interested in developing Mary and Flo as well. He didn't have to scarafice M/F for Diana. They could have all been winners.<
