Audi was the first blah blah blah blah! Who the hell cares. LED DRL's are a safety standard now for most new cars. Mercedes was the first cars ever to have turn signals in the mirrors, now almost all cars have them. Car manufacturers and designers copy from each other all the time, so there's that!!!
@Skicary...First to introduce LED's to headlights yes, but Mercedes is first to make full LED headlights - parking lights, blinkers, high and low beam and DRL's. These headlights have no Xenons. Audi may have established the idea but Mercedes perfected it.
@FIDTRO Touché. But unfortunately we are both wrong. You are right that Audi made the first full LED Headlamp I'll give you that, but it wasn't on the R8 like you say. It was actually made for the Audi Nuvolari Quattro which was a concept made in 2003 - kind of resembles the Audi TT more than the R8, this car then paved the way for the R8 which now uses the full LED headlamp. Maybe because I own the 2012 CLS550 I think they look better on a Mercedes-Benz than on an Audi. Can you blame me?
@mrspicnspan Well, if we're speaking strictly about production cars it was the R8. But generally, Audi was the first automaker to make use of full LED headlights. Regardless, like you said, it's becoming a standard for cars throughout the industry, and I'm glad about that. LED's, no matter on which automaker, look great and distinctive. To each is own though, I guess. Congrats on the car, if you're ever in Vancouver give me a ride haha.
@FIDTRO Lol, I'll give you a ride but I'm hoping if I'm ever in Vancouver I expect you to purchase an R8, preferably the Spyder so then you can give me a ride too.
@FIDTRO Oh and Audi only uses 54 LED's in the R8's headlamp, the CLS550 uses 71...if that matters. The option is cheaper on the CLS550 by around $3k too but of course you have to take into account the R8 is more pricey. :)

@mrspicnspan what? R8 V10 was the first car to do that, not Mercedes.

okie363 3 months ago
@okie363 of course not, Lexus had LED just in dimmed lights, NOT FULL headlights (including DRL, indicator, all weather light, high beam)...
