  • is that an elephants diaphram?

  • So that's where my horses contact lense went lol ( you know the pic where he's holding that giant contact and u can click)

  • thanks! Great explanation.

  • Please understand that my comment that I just posted was in answer to "lindenmark3" not Dr. Schneider, who explained this rather well I'd say.

  • this guy looks like the one dude from forgetting sarah marshall...

  • @lindenmark3

You are not correct guy, the cornea do not have any relation to the astigmatism!

Look to my profile and you will see what is an astigmatism! It is in Russia but I suppose avrything is understand.

  • I'm afraid that you're incorrect with your statement that the cornea doesn't have any "relation to the astigmatism." Although there are other contributing factors (lens, vitreous, retinal cells at the macula, not to mention the incident rays of light striking these "media"), the corneal curves provide the greatest amount of "refractive power" to the eye and if it is not "spherical" (we call that now "toric"), the result is ASTIGMATISM. Perhaps this is a language issue for you.

  • thats a really big contact lense. o.o

  • Everything is soo blurry to me! I was diagnosed with Astigtism. It just sucks when my teacher places me at the back of the room. I can't see anything written on the board! It's all blurry. Recently, my astigmatism became worse and even I'm in front row, it will still be blurry. Even when I'm using the computer, when I stand back, it will also became blurry!

Now, I'm using glasses. Troublesome, but what can I do.

Kids, remember not keeping your eyes on the screen too much!

  • @yourAdope1 That may be caused by too much stress on the eyes. How many hours do you spend in front of computer? When you staring into a screen to tend to focus too much, you blink rarely and that makes your eye to dry out. They become tired and you seeing is blurry.

  • Hi! I have this eye problem where I kind of have double vision. Like when I look at a horizontal line, there will be a "shadow line" just below it. The greater distance, the further away the "shadow line" is from the real line. Is this astigmatism?

  • Being astigmatic is cool.

-1.50 on the right eye; 0.50 on the left.

  • @albino65 its not cool... got 2.25 on both eyes and im about to lose it -.- soon ill pull my eyes out they are of no good...

  • i have an astigmatism in my left eye..

and i dunno if i acquired it or i have it since birth..

  • i have astigmatism too i plan on getting surgery when im older, but i want to know how much it cost you know?

  • Hi, i have Astigmatism, but I don't see 2 blurred images. i just can't read the letters well because they are too blurry.

  • this video might be inaccurate then. anyone else feels the double vision thing is inaccurate ?

  • @Krazyisthebest That is because your astigmatism is mild one. With this kind of fault you see a sort of halo around small light sources or small shapes are blurred. With severe astigmatism you would see sort of two images.

  • A very good explanation of what astigmatism means; I've been trying to understand it for ages, and now I think I finally got it! :)

  • I have great Astigmatism -2 -7 ! ... I use small slightly blue-toned hard contacts. They are way less comforteble than the soft ones I used to have.. but at least I can see the clouds and the streets clearly.

  • thank u so much for this video

    i understand now

  • Wow--I've been all over the internet trying to understand astigmatism, and the explanations vary a lot (and none are real easy to grasp). BUT this video showed me in two minutes flat! GREAT! Thanks for making it so visual and so easy to understand, Dr. jared!

  • Before you resort to laser surgery ...

I got rid of my "high-level astigmatism" using the Bates Method and leaving my glasses off, for about a month. (I couldn't wear them again afterwards - and then my optometrist found out why!)

Apparently you can't get rid of astigmatism naturally. Oh really?! Thank goodness I didn't hear THAT, before I tried natural vision improvement techniques.

Reclaim your eyes. Give Bates a try!

    Much love,

    Angela
