I Have To Say.. I Grow Up Listening To The 70's, 80's. 90's have to say it has more meanings then the song you hear now, beside that remix the music , you got to p/f d/l , ac/dc. j/p. gnr elo, ccr, b/s b/a// etc ect the list can go on forever lol thank you for posting dr. hook.. love there music :)
I hope you don't mind posting my response which is me singing this song.....the funny part is I am only 38 so Ray was more than twenty years older than me but I got to see them in 1989 in Kingston :) I was soooo happy! I have always loved their songs. imagine a three year old wandering around the house singing get my rocks off...LOL It would have been funny to have video back then :) please post my response? Thanks for posting the song!!!
Yes, Shel Silverstein wrote the lyrics. Another of his songs, "I'm Checkin' Out," performed by Meryl Streep in the movie 'Postcards From the Edge,' was nominated for an Oscar in 1991. And in the 50's Hugh Hefner hired him to be resident poet/cartoonist for Playboy magazine.
Love everything by Dr Hook and this song is absolutely fantastic. People ask me, 'Don't you get sick of listening to that?' I always answer, 'No, I'm waiting until they get sick of singing it.'
I really would like to say a great big 'Thank YOU' to Karen Fishlock (Woodley, Reading. 1975-77) for getting me into Dr Hook. Many thanks, Karen, still love you xxx.
This song is so totally what the 70s were about. It encompasses all of those feelings I remember so well. Even though we did drugs, sex, n rock n roll, it was such a time of innocence. A time of what's mine is yours, n what's yours is mine. There seemed to be so much more love then, and almost NONE of the anger and hatred that's so prevelant today. I've tried raising my kids with these same feelings, and to believe deeply in Karma. But this song says it all. Turn on the world, with yer love!:)
Sloppy Seconds CD refers this title as "Turn Of The World", anyone noticed?

the reason i think a band like DR HOOK didnt become as well known as others is because of music industry Snobs

@TheBugatti2011 True they were heads and shoulders above most singers but the music industry miss handled the from the start.

Another great oldie from Shel Silverstein for Dr. Hook. I can't think of anyone who could perform Silverstein's songs better than Ray and Dennis.
