  • Do they add a beat at the beginning of the second time through the A-part of Scalasaig? I think I count an extra beat in the second measure.

  • Beautiful performance, well recorded as well. Thank you for posting this.

  • the city of newport pipes and drums have 2 bass drums too they sound awesome

  • good stuff

  • sounding amazing as usual shame about the early chanter though. sounds even better with the two bass drums!

  • Love those blue mallets!

  • im sorry but i don't understand how its possible to have an early chanter in grade one PARTICULARLY at a major?!?!

  • @bontyjarron I guess it's nerves. So it is particularly likely to happen at a major. There were at least two in the qualifying grade 1 at the Worlds this year and they're not unknown in the final. However, I am not sure that there is an early chanter here. I went back to my source files and cannot detect it. I wouldn't post a video of a band if I thought there had been an early chanter.

  • @dronechorus fair enough, but there is definitely an early chanter at 11 seconds as someone strikes in.

  • @bontyjarron

lol. sounds more like a cat mewing than an early chanter... I'm not sure either way

  • @dronechorus you can definitely hear one....

  • I was at the worlds + its the 1st time i've seen a band play with 2 basses, i liked it.

  • 2 basses and the pipe major not front right isn't anything new. Toronto Police Pipe Band has had 2 basses for 3 years now, and we've had PM's all over the front rank for ages. Then again, we're a few 1000 miles away in Ontario.

  • @bigsteve1984 The music of the Toronto Police Pipe Band is perhaps better known over here than you think. It's more than innovative; it's revolutionary. There are many here looking forward to seeing and hearing the band at the Cowal Highland Gathering.

  • shame about the drones ...yet again,,,,,nice tempos...

  • 2 bass drums didnt make any difference the only reason why now jim plays with 2 is because he cant get a tenner drum 57inches wide so he went with the mini bass witch now means in the bass section they have 1 for every note played on the chanter scale thats what he told me and my drummers at dumbarton while he helped tune our drums in whitch was very kind of him by the way thanks jim

  • @paddythepiper1 at what point did i claim to be an expert? I do play in a band yes. do you? i'm a piper. in their defence mibi tripe was a bit harsh, but they consistently produce a sub standard tone compared to other bands around them. drumming point of view, outstanding. piping point of view, old fashioned tone which just doesn't stand well amongst the modern competition.

  • @gadgad2 Sorry if i was a bit harsh with you .yes i am a piper been one for forty years and i am a big shotts fan must be my age!! I get anoyed when i read negative comments when a lot of the time the peaple that post them dont know the first thing about piping .I saw all the bands at dumbarton that day i felt boghall should have won .All the best .

  • @paddythepiper1 With you there. Boghall were awesome on the day. really impressive. all the best.

  • Interesting...I thought they could only use one bass in competition.

  • i was at dumbarton and i heard first hand what there drumcore was like and it was out of this world especially with 2 bass drummers

  • nice med selection , sounds great... think Toronto police have tried two bass drummers over the past few years... didn't do shotts any harm on this performance!

  • arahuddy catch a grip haha read wot youve just read , makes u sound like the armchair critic u probably are!! this is amazing!! shotts always do it first FACT HAHA

  • wow this footage is brill sound realy stands out picture realy clear thanks for posting

  • no offence...but what exactly is the bass dummer on the left doing?

there times....no tunes (jigs etc) where the drum sticks aren't

even hitting the drum/moving at all.

  • wow, with headphones or cranking the subwoofer you can really hear the mid section in this, nice work, can't wait to hear this in person in August this year :-) epic!
