@armyboy57 Any aircraft armed with a weapon that can reach the ground is technically capable of conducting Close Air Support of ground troops. The A-10 actually has several other missions that it is tasked with other than CAS. In fact, most CAS for US forces is actually conducted by the F-16 and F/A-18 because there are greater numbers of those in the inventory than A-10/AV-8B.
@looneycrewvideos most did until the superhornet & supertomcat joined the fleet ! with ordenance or certain density altitudes they still may use afterburner to assist on climbout after the launch . the key point with the AB is to be at max power for climb rate or to maintain altitude following a cold-shot . regards , Tomcat was the King of the air and got all the chix too !
God that was one sexy, badass airplane!
