I hate saying this but the AE86 came to America in 1984 with the DX, and SR5 only. The GT-S came in 1985. All SR5's had these 1st 7 digits in the VIN: JT2AE86, the GT-S had: JT2AE88, Other differences included the LSD, the Engine, and the GT-S had four- wheel disc brakes. The AE85 was only used in japan, and the car had a 1.5 Liter engine in it.

I love my 84 sr5 hatch, fun to drive, not a race car but light and nimble on the street. traded my old xbox for it... and drove it home. go for the coupe if you want a car for some light streetin. I had an 85 coupe that after gutting out extra weight was a blast around town

hel yeah man my 86 SR5 hatch is hella fun to drive. i recently gutted the rear of the car and installed front/rear strut bars and a b-pillar bar. however the clutch went out on me friday, so it sin the shop getting a whole new clutch disc, pressure plate, and release/throwout bearing. should be getting it back by monday. plus the mechanic is hooking up my yellow fog lights for me for free.

damn man lucky as hell. I love my 1985 SR5. Got it for 1200$CAN and its in mint condition with ONLY 65,000km on it. so chassy is super clean with 1 little dent on the rear quarter pannal which will be easy to bang out. I'm gunna be putting a 4age20v turbo engine in it so i will have enough power to blast most civics and stis probably :P its gunna be insane!

I hope none of you wanna be drifter kids are planning on paying that much for an 80 hp car(prob less with wear and tear) that will require extensive mods to attain the level of performance (suspension and motor swap)that you are drooling about.

i dont think you want it. the guy here obviously doesnt know alot about 86's. to prove the fact, this is an sr5 and he says its ae86 too. sr5 are on an ae85 platform not ae86. the preformance of the two is completely different. you have to be a real life itsuki to think this is an ae86.

i beg to differ with you. i have an SR5, and the first for digits/letters of the VIN are

AE86. if you wanna get all smart assy about it, look at the vin on a GTS....should start would AE88. that doesnt mean its not an AE86. that is the production code for ALL RWD corollas between 84-87. so yes, its an AE86, but its just the lesser SR5 model. FOO

The point of the corolla isnt to be balls to the wall. the corolla is, and always will be a super slow, underpowered car, unless you do a 4AGTE, 3SGTE, or 2JZ swap...and thats just gay. the corolla has a HUGE following outside of drifters. its just a fun car to drive.

hell yeah susan, i got a '86 SR5 with a 4A-C and i love it, its hella easy ot drift it too, shit u dont need a 4A-GE, its all in the suspension. hell i touge most of the time anyway, and i shit on faster cars

same vin and body yes, but it is technically different. in america the 85 was released as the sr5 with the gts being the 86, but the biggest two differences are the lsd and engine. really they are the same car just the gts is the better version but since you are probably going to tune it anyway it doesn't really matter. and in japan, the 86 was the same model just a different year/ worse stuff.

i hate being the corolla vigalante of youtube. u say he only difference is the motor/lsd/ well wha abou the fact that the GTS had a diff interior, 4 wheel disk brakes, and only was availible in a 5spd manual. ther is no such thing as an Ae85. there is an ae86, and some, if not all gts cars were vin'd ae88. the cars got the name from the Vin. my 300zx has Z31 in the chassis code. thast why its a Z31. if you have any more questions or comments plz feel free to mail me. ill answer your dumb shit
