Hi, I'm thinking of buying the Kodak Zi8, but I'm gonna need a external Microphone to Record my drumming, for youtube. What do I need/ Can you help me/Recommend me? Thanks for you input.
@LClarkeProductions - I have had this awhile now-I bought mine new on ebay-you will have to check prices ,I think mine was $100.00 but I can't remember it just has to fit the plug on the zi8 you might find a cheaper one that works as good- check reviews.
Great presentation gstone. I have a Zi8 with an AT PRO24CM mic with a bracket to mount it to the Kodak and tripod. I've got some vids on me page. All done with this setup except the "Black And White" vid, it was done with Panasonics.
Cool vid. I need to make one to show my Kodak zi8 portable setups. Most of the live music videos on my channel since September are filmed with zi8 plus external Shure mics. Thanks again for the video showing accessories. I have tripod, mics, mic clips.
@mikedelgado8888 I didn't have the mic on for this little video! The only problem with the mic is it needs a light so you don't forget its on.I have run the batteries down twice by forgetting to turn it off.
Zi8 /w Sima SLB-M Video Bracket, Sima LED light, Azden shotgun Mic, Audio technica lav mic, Rolls MX54s 3-channel Mic Mixer, and some XLR/3.5mm adapters. I use the Rolls Mic mixer to mix the lav mic and shotgun mic together so i can narrate the videos i take. or just the lav mic. When used with a tri-pod its great for podcasts!
A really good cheap solution to remote mic a person 100 feet away is to take a simple mp3 recorder, use that to mic the person. Have them look at the camera and clap really loud. Then you can import the sound into the vid editing software and match up the claps, hopefully it will be on the video and in the original video sound track as well. Can be an easy and cheap solution if your video camera doesn't have external mic, you've run out of channels, or the subject is to far for good wireless.
Thanks for the video. Your vid wasn't level for the most part, a simple solution would be to go to the dollar store, buy one of those keychain bubble levels, cut the chain off and either glue or use 2 sided tape and put it on your tripod. Then simply make sure your bubble is always centred.
sorry, my tripod has a level on it but I didn't level it- Next time I will make sure I check that first. The platform on mine doesn't sit 100% level so it will probably be a must -Thanks for the tip!
if your camera has an auxillary input for a mic it will. The kodak zi8 has a 3.5mm jack which is pretty standard.check your manual it might show, if not I can hear your sound good on your video so it might not be that big of deal.
Great setup , well done .

camera has the threaded hole in it ,so the tripod needs to have a threaded screw on it.
gstonegraphix 1 month ago
Does the camera have the screw thing on the bottom to attach to a tripod?

I wasn't filming in HD. It takes longer to load on YouTube.

I seen other video test from the zi8, it's quality way better than this. Why is that?

I just checked my tripod-there was a small plastic bur on the platform keeping it from going down all the way, - I cut it off-now its sitting level.
