Damn, I have never actually beaten this game (fairly). Or the first one. The Labyrinth Zone in 1 thwarted me most of the time, and in 2, Metropolis Zone always shredded my lives to nothingness while the Sky Chase finished me off. Strangely, StH3 never gave me such trouble... is it me, or is 3 easier?

you can go to soud test play in order 19,65,09,17 you should hear a ring collecting sound. Go to title screen hold a and press start. From stage select screen go to sound test input in order 04, 01, 02, 06, and you can skip all the special stages and already have super sonic

Get 50 rings. Go to a starpost. On top of the starpost, there is a group of flying stars; jump through them. Beat the special stage. Repeat 7 times until you have all 7 emeralds. Get 50 rings. Jump. VOILA!

If you're using a Genesis (not an emulator)

You can reset your game (once the first Emerald is collected) and restart from the beginning, the Emeralds are kept :)

So with this glitch, you can become Super Sonic on Stage 1

(Works on Euro Version, I'm French ;) )

You have to do all the special stages to collect all the chaos emeralds, then when you collect 50+ rings and jump you turn into supersonic. =]

Oh, that helps. I only had Sonic because Tails was being annoying while I was trying to get the Chaos Emeralds. The only achievement I have left for the xbox live arcade version is beating the game under an hour.  Thanks for the awesome help! ^^ Another glitch I am trying to master is a level where you fall into the floor and lava. I'll keep trying.

That was on purpose in order to cause a glitch that allows that gate to open and skip half the level (its not supposed to open, but tails lagging behind causes it to open)

maybe i'm being a jerk, but wouldn't it be more time effecient to wait at the finishing point until exactly 30 seconds, since under 30 secs it takes all of about 9 seconds to count up the total score. it should save the speed runner a maybe 2 or 3 seconds each board..
