  • no it's mars haha x]

    jkjk

  • how do you do this?

  • nice!

  • Why does it turn red anyways? I always thought it was because the atmosphere of the earth refracts the red light enough to make it past the earth and project it on the moon. But I may be wrong...

  • yes that is true.

the suns red light refracts through the atmosphere at some angle that will act as a filter to make it appear orange or red.

  • Iv'e just been scratching my head for 5 mins to think about this and I came up with nothing. I don't think it's due to the atmosphere. The only thing that changed in that second when it turned was the amount of light and that it wasnt a direct light source anymore.

I think the image switches to a different light capture device to keep it visible.

  • No it is due to Earth's atmosphere making the moon red. I saw it myself when it happened a few years ago. Although it didn't turn quite as red as this, it was pretty close.

  • Beautiful

  • wow thats amazing that solar eclipse was on my birthday

  • That's a lunar eclipse. A solar eclipse is the eclipse of the sun by the moon. This is the eclipse of the moon by the earth.

  • Super zaćmienie.

  • Very very beautiful!

  • Praise the lord. at first is black then turn red just like god said. the bible says AND THE SUN BECAME BLACK AS A SACKCLOTH OF HAIR: AND THE WHOLE MOON BECAME AS BLOOD, this means we are in the last days people wake up

  • Nothing to do with the Bible...

  • It's called a lunar eclipse, dummy. it's supposed to change colors. don't you pay attention in science class? jeez... it does not mean we are going to die.

  • You're so true!

  • xclusive1287, instead of living in the world of fear that was written for you thousands of years a go, why don't YOU wake up and start enjoying this life of yours!! it's all about that!!

  • actually your right it does have to do with the bible. But, the bible is talking about all eclipses. LOL silly christian.

  • Praise the Lord ... we're stil here.

    Numb nuts!

  • lmao

  • maybe you need to wake up, this happens what, every about 7 years or something like that? I don't want to make a religious debate, but some people aren't christian. So share your faith elsewhere, especially where the video is not of a secular nature.

  • @xclusive1287

    .... it's physics you retard!

  • Perfect lunar eclipse movie!

  • cool

  • I don't get why it turns black first and then bright red.

  • I Saw that after a party and we were in the mcdonalds car park waitin for our order :p

  • omg i really wanted to see this i totally fogot i was gonna watch it with my bffl to treasure a special moment but i just totally clued out.. oh well i guess i have to wait till 2010:P thanks i really wanted to see this

  • how'd u get the moon to stay in the middle, i filmed the solar eclipse last night and i had to move the camera every 5-10 mins because the moon moved

  • wooooops, i meant lunar, not solar

  • That's ROCK SOLID man....

  • Amazing...

  • holy crap! the moon just disappeared, magiacally turned red, and then was normal again! (i know i sound totally stupid, and im not, but that was really kool)

  • It took an hour for me to see it.

  • Wow just brilliant, Well done! :)

  • That was the night I started dating my girlfriend :-D

  • i watched this on my trampoline XD it wos freezing!

  • Have you ever wondered or notice that the moon does not turn? It stays facing the same direction of earth at all times. Why? I wonder what is on the opposite side of it.

  • The dark side of the moon...

  • Nope. There are bases, and lots of activity. Do a search on here for it. You will discover there is proof of satillite pics that indicate many different structures that have been built.

  • That has nothing to do with how the moon turns, nor is it true. You only see te bright side of the moon, because it is visible. the dark side has no light, so you can't see it. seems simple enough to me. Also, about those structures, what are you tlking about? the only structures i could think of would be in a figurative sense like, large volcanic structures of rock or something. Man made structares do not exhist on the moon.

  • The light side has no light either, all the light is reflected from the sun onto the moon and then back to earth.

The reason we only ever see one side of the moon is that it turns at the same rate as it goes around the earth. So it is turning, but so slowly that by the time it turns around it's on the other side of the earth.

Nuttnyaface, there aren't any lunar bases yet. The only man-made structures on the moon are machinery left over from landings.

  • @mark4374

    XD You made me giggle.

  • I don't know why people are being so technical..

The reason why is that the moon rotates at the same rate as the earth so only one side is seen at one time.

The other side is the dark side which is covered in impact crators.

Well that's all I remember from GCSE Astronomy xD

  • the reason why we only see one side of the moon is due to tidal locking. Earth's gravity has, over the (MANY) years, forced the moon to have one side facing it at all times. (you can get more info on Wikipedia)

  • Big Thanks~ awesome creature by GOD~~~~!!!! Praise The LORD~!!! \(^0^)/

  • beautiful

  • el 28 de agosto del 2007 a las 4:00am Hora del pacifico Habra un eclipce igual a este. solo sera visto en la costa del pacifico.

  • wow

  • Exelent video !

Question. How did you maintain the moon perfectly in the center. Did you followed it with the camera or adjusted position in the postproduction ?

In both cases you must have some patience.

  • Im pretty sure had an equatorial telescope follow it with a camera connection

  • Well done!

  • If you were an astronaut standing on the moon during totality, you would see Earth eclipsing the sun. Earth would appear as a dark disk surrounded by a brilliant red ring-our atmosphere glowing with the light of all the planet's sunsets and sunrises. It's this light that we see bathing the moon during totality.

  • thanks, i knew that athmosphere had something to do with this.

  • i didnt know that moon colours red when the eclipse is perfect. can someone explain me why this happens? i'd be eager to know:P

  • You can credit Earth's atmosphere with providing an reddish color to the moon during an eclipse. The atmosphere acts like a filtered lens. It bends red sunlight into our planet's shadow and scatters out blue light. It's the same reason why sunrises and sunsets appear reddish. If Earth were an airless planet, its shadow would be pitch black and the eclipsed moon would be invisible.

  • if the earth were an airless planet, i probably would never have joined youtube and gotten to see this cool movie.

  • and the moon would not turn red if the earth had no air...
