I have these black wasps building tubes out of mud on the side of my house. They're full of paralyzed caterpillars, spiders and grubs for their young to eat (I'm assuming). Do you know what species they would be?

and you should build a rased glass room outside and buy sume living wasps and let the build nests fore you all you need to do is put dirt and plants in it :)

Thats pretty impressive & scary at the same time! Im terrified of wasps, bees hornets etc and happen to have a catalpa tree out back and in the last 2 days it is being swarmed with wasps & hornets and i cant see any nest! Does there HAVE to be a nest if they are swarming the tree? Its a HUGE tree and i cant see everything in it but wouldnt the nest be pretty visible to me? im lost! dont know what to do and im in pure panic mode! can you please help me by letting me know if there HAS to be a nest
If you work in an area where areas are not disturbed and you suddenly open an area where nests are most like to be found, you need to be extremely careful!
@idiotboyification Actually, the bald-faced hornet is a type of yellowjacket. Though typical yellowjackets are yellow & black and are smaller than the bald-faced hornet. The bald-faced hornet is larger than typical yellowjackets and are mostly black with white markings. Oh, their nests are similar in that they are globular in shape with tiers of horizontal combs on the inside of the nest.

Great Vid and collection. You could probably start a museum. I started collecting white face hornets nest when out hunting in the fall. The leaves fall from the trees and you can see them when walking in the woods here in the northwest. I gave most away to fellow hunters so they could hang them as decorations in their hunting displays.

My uncle was going up a deer blind in East Texas and slowly backed down as he saw HUGE red wasp nest. Returning at 2AM he burned it out with long gas soaked torch. As small kid I saw nest were there really over 400 cells in it it's the # I remember but it could have been less those red bastards are mean and will kill just like snakebite it hit in numbers. A nest that's really hard to collect---digger wasps.
Cool collection you have there and if I find any in my area that would fit in it I will send you a message. Check out my bee videos I do when I feed them. They are pretty cool. I stay away from the hornets though

@Mazza4Azza they chew up wood ,then return to their nest ,and they spit it out on the nest and wait for it to become paper .

Cool collection you have there and if I find any in my area that would fit in it I will send you a message. Check out my bee videos I do when I feed them. They are pretty cool. I stay away from the hornets though

@Akazzzle The purpose of the layers is to insulate the colony inside the nest.
