When this fight took place he was on a 13 fight win streak, all but one by KO or sub. After Shields took him to school he won his next 2-3 fights and has been off an on since, mostly off. Thompson has fought all over, the UFC, Pride, Pancrase etc. This was his first fight in Elite XC, he was brought in to improve the WW division & as an opponent for Shields.
After getting stopped so quick by Shields didn't help his rankings but he was top 25 a year ago. He beat Paul Daley

Jake is good but GSP is great. If Jake fought GSP it would be John Finch vs GSP all over again, and even then I reckon Finch would beat Jake.

Yeah I read it on ifight, but he was asked about his statements by other reporters and gave Shields a lot of juice for being one of the best "at any weight " GSP's original statement also there where a couple of dream fights in MMA , Fedor vs Lesner and GSP vs Jake Shields.

Not just a statement, but GSP would destroy Jake Shields--any of GSP's last 8 oppenens would too. When Jake went for first takedoen gsp ould have stuffed that with one-hand and beaten him silly. nothing against jake shields except the machine of promotion is saying he's dangerous and i don't see it at all

Jake make's it 13 wins in a row. He dominated Mayhem with aggressive Jui Jitsu. As expected Millers defense was amazing, but you can't win a fight with defense. The scores were 4 rounds to 1 (49-46) Shields was all over Miller,but couldn't get the tap.
Jake has been SO good the last few years,that even a dominate win can be just good. The people I watched the fights with Uuh and Ahhs at all the transitions to position. They were cool, but i've been into Jake for years,just off his best.

He put the fight where he wanted and thats what champions do. Now Middle and Welterweight Champ
Shaq and Wilt were not the best free throw or 3 point shooters but dominated where they were best. He imposed his will and made it a ground game. I like the jui jitsu better than boxing aspect anyways
Regardless he beat Daley who is at the top of the UFC. Keep proving the meat heads wrong like the many other healthy veg athletes that save animals

He controlled Mayhem with his strength and kept the fight where he is best. If you did not like the chess match then watch boxing. If you are good at something say hitting baseball and okay at golf, talk all you want, when you are on his level all of his opponents respect him and the black belt.
