  • Can't wait for the sequel, The Collection, its gonna kick ass and from what i hear from some the interviews of the film its got more gore, action and fills in a lot of the plot holes from the first film.

    LOVE THE MOVIE!

  • If you want to see a tribute to torture porn, write :

DESPERA - Chroniques de la Douleur

  • saw 6 in French makes "saucisse" meaning saussage lol

  • Marcus Dunstan & Patrick Melton are geniuses. Saw is like a videogame. It is fiction. The reality is much more regrettable. Pray and march to lunch at KFC :P

  • The Saw movies are actually scripted? Huh. Go figure.

  • this is dumb. i have never watched these movies and never will. it isn't a coincidence that when the government starts torturing people as a matter of policy, that movies about it start appearing. it's like in the 80's when the drug war/war on crime totalitarianism kicked into gear, COPS became a big thing on saturday nights. pretty soon there will be tv shows about bankers and the Civilian Corps that the military wants for the domestic homefront.

  • Isn't this the same guy that puts health care "reform" propaganda in his movies?

  • I have found a couple diffrent sites for watching saw vi and other shows online my favorite one is theonlinecinema. net/saw-vi, if this one doesnt work for you, just PM and i'll hook you up with the links to others :)

  • The real problem is that people are willing to pay for this junk.

  • Marcus Dunstan is an evil, talentless scumbag. These movies are not interesting, intelligent, or life-affirming in any way. They're just gimmicks. He's just found a way to make a ton of money without producing any value. He's leaching off our current cultural sickness.

And no, I am NOT saying that he should be censored. I do support free speech, even for the lowest scum of the earth like this guy.

  • This video is another example why "Reason" is a crappy defender of capitalism.

What the director does not say at the beginning of this video is that in Saw 6 all the torture victims that the audience is supposed to get off on watching die are bankers, brokers, etc. How is it in the interests of an organization supposedly supporting capitalism to interview such a creep as this guy in a positive light? If you want to defend free speech, why not focus on those being attacked for criticizing Islam?

  • Egh. I absolutely detest the saw films and that genre in general. To me a torture scene is something you can have in your movie, but it isn't something the movie should revolve completely around.

That said, I of course don't believe they should be stopped from making their torture porn. It isn't my right to tell people they can't watch and enjoy that. It is however my right to be critical of it. What worries me the most about this genre is... LITERALLY it being torture porn for some people.

  • Type ero guro into wikipedia. Or if you have a STRONG constitution type in Gurochan into google. There are people who ARE AROUSED by this. Which horrifies me beyond rational thought. But I suppose the libertarian thing to say is 'so long as no one is being harmed, at least against their will, it is alright'? I dunno.

That said it still isn't as painful to watch as the live action Transformers movies. ;P

  • if you like the saw movies, i think that's disgusting. yeah fight censorship, hoorah libertarianism, but what the hell for? mangled people is not something i want to see. ever.

  • Man, he must be desperate for exposure if he's doing an interview for Reason!!

  • "Come see da movie!" lol

  • The Saw movies are not scary, entertaining or particularly clever or well-made.

  • The best interviews come from when an interviewer lets the interviewee talk. Here's a great example of an excellent interviewer and editor.

  • Why should I care about this? Why does Reason care about this?

  • Because there are people who want to censor or ban this sort of movie. In some countries it has already happened. Hence, a libertarian magazine gave the man a chance to speak. You will note they touch upon this subject.

  • I'm counting the hours.....

  • While I recognize and support Marcus's right to free speech, and inferred right to produce any kind of movie he likes, you have to wonder: 1.) how this activity benefits society at large?; 2.) does he recognize and appreciate how this may negatively effect individual soul and psyche?; 3.) could he use his time and talents more productively?; and, 4.) what motivates him to dwell on the subject?

  • why should he be forced to use his timeand talents more productively?

  • Where in my statement did I even imply the use of force? He's free to do as he pleases.

  • I agree...

the onus is always on the producer and their fans to prove how thier product is an asset to the collective. Any good that we can imagine should be weighed against imaginary negatives, superstitions, speculations, hysteria, and mud slinging.

And after we have evaluated the product, we should begrudgingly affirm their temporary right to freedom of expression.

Instead of wreckless truth and exploration, film makers should be pre occupied with ideology and positive propaganda.

  • "The Collective" has had quite enough ideology and propaganda from Hollywood. Which is partly why the movie biz isn't doing so well as of late.

  • LOL

    Sorry

I shouldnt have said "the collective"

I meant to say "the community"

ya know, friends, families and neighboors, caring people who really share, sharing people who really care.

People who really care about what you read and what you think, and most important of all FEELINGS.

What ever happened to Unity and Moral Fabric, and Witch Burning?

  • 'Witch hunts' are commonplace these days; the MSM and the President are constantly head-hunting. I'm sure they have a long list of 'infidels' to burn at the stake. Censorship, marginalization, is only phase one, then show trials, then a good ol' fashioned burning hootenanny.

  • MSM?

  • Main Stream Media, friend.

  • The conservatve would say:

    1) the society at LARGE doesn't matter. if the individual wants to do something, he's free to do it as long is it doesn't harm another individual

2)if someone feels like it can harm them, don't see it

    3) he can use his time and talent how he wants, thats what freedoms about

    4) no idea, not really a SAW fan, but if he enjoys filming this genre, he's alowed to

  • What you said in effect is; The individual has no responsibility to society at large. So I ask you; Does society at large have any responsibility to the individual?

  • Yes watcherjohnny- Society (and it's proxy, government) has a responsibility to leave the individual alone, as long as the individual isn't harming anyone, he or she should be allowed to do as they please. From the Libertarian platform " As Libertarians, we seek a world of liberty; a world in which all individuals are sovereign over their own lives and no one is forced to sacrifice his or her values for the benefit of others." Society has a responsibility to NOT coerce the individual.

  • society as in 'We the People' or as in the Federal gov't or as in the state gov't?

  • Society as in "We the People". I'm not sure how anyone who read my original post could construe I was implying any form of government censorship. I stated explicitly that I recognize his RIGHT to say anything he wants. My comments relate to the broader question of any personal, moral obligations we may have to the people around us.

  • society as "We the People", is allow him to make these movies, i dont know what YOU would consider moral obligations, i see my obligations as an American to speak my mind in whatever manner i want, and i want to see people do the same, even if i disagree what is being shown in the movie or whatever it is i disagree with

  • 1) freedom of speech benefits society at large. Exercicing it and showing everybody that they really live in a free country even more.

    2) Nobody is forced to watch it.

    3) He is alredy. You should not judge him.

  • First, to clear up any potential misunderstanding I recognize the difference between 'should not' and 'can not'

It is my freedom of speech and free thought to judge any one else for any reason I want. Even if it makes me a jackass or a racist.

That said, I don't judge him. His movies just make me wretch. That's fine, no one forces me to watch them, and wretching I guess is the intended point.

  • Agreed

  • 1. Is it supposed to benefit society at large? Don't assume your values should be his.

    2. Individuals make choices themselves on what to watch and what not to. It's not a crime to watch fiction.

    3. I'm sure he believes his time & talent is productive, otherwise he wouldn't do it. You have no say in how/what he does unless it initiates force on others.

    4. Who knows, who cares. I personally haven't seen a single Saw movie, but if obviously, with the number of sequels it's a popular franchise.

  • 1.) It benifits those who work under him (100's) of jobs. Jobs= money. Should it help every body no it's a movie not a band aid.

2.) If you don't want to watch it don't. that's why we have a rating sytem on movies and games.

3.)Do you know him? he may donate to charity and help others if not that is his choice No One should be forced to do things they don't want to even if it helps others.

4.) the huge fan base that likes these type of movies. Believe it or not. Also the pay check.

  • I wonder the same things about religion

  • Don't fret johnny, the culture has been diseased for a while now. But - I don't think horror films, and this one is not the most gory, are a problem - I think gangsta rap is more destructive [although I don't believe in censorship]. Gangster culture is literally ruining lives. I hope rappers stop promoting it - but I don't count on it. Anyway, ya can't stop free speech of any kind, because either it's all ok, or nothing is. We can only hope the culture recovers; but I don't count on that either.

  • Well, ask you're self this, what do you define as beneficial to all society at large.Maybe he wanted to entertain someone. Of course, you can't benefit all of the society, since we are all individuals, and are all uniquely different, and will not like everything everyone else does. Is everyone benefited by welfare, since it's "intentions" are to benefit everyone?

And how can you know, that everyone will be feel negatively effected individual soul and psyche?

  • Violence against people - no problem.

Violence an animal - all hell breaks lose.

    What's wrong with this?

  • Agreed airborne373.

  • Well, when you look at pets and the animals that people love, the reason we love them is because they are like children. The have child-like features (big eyes, big head to body ratio) and they are very innocent. Seeing violence against an animal in a film upsets people as would seeing violence against a child.

  • Ashilla - Excellent explanation and I believe you are spot on.

The other part of the equation is while a pair women's breast on tv is taboo our children watch tens of thousands of simulated murders and other violent events against humans.

  • yep: there is no difference between swatting a fly and clubbing a baby seal.

  • How did you get that from my comment? I'm fine with the seal hunts (though I hate the idea of baby seals dying, and they don't because that's been illegal for a while now) as it's actually quite humane (99.9% of the time. There are sick fucks). They live in the wild. I mean, they have it better than free range chickens.

  • i'm agreeing with you.

  • Free range chickens are adults before they are humanely killed for sustenance.

What was the purpose of killing pups that never reached adulthood and bloodying the snow right in front of their screaming parents to watch.. Ever see an adult seal scream watching their baby be killed? Its pretty horrifying. Kind of like the Saw movie, but its real.

  • Hey retard, it is illegal to kill baby seals. Did you read my comment/ That''s all peta propaganda. And have you seen adult seals eat their babies when they're hungry? The animal world is not pretty. Parents kill their kids for horrible reasons. and the seals are killed humanely. If you spent 5 seconds paying attention and less time regurgitating PETA nonsense, you'd know. And the seals aren't cooped up, and they are killed swiftly and painlessly and not doing so is ILLEGAL. Fucking dolt.

  • There is an exception. Native peoples are still allowed to hunt baby seals for food. The reason baby seals are hunted is because the meat is tender and the fur is white and soft. Other baby animals are butchered all the time. Veal is from baby cows, suckling pig, roasted baby lamb are just a few. The increased seal population due to the ban on the sell of their fur has increased the shark population. This has made it more dangerous for surfers and swimmers along the Pacific coast.

  • That's interesting... I really hate here how Native people have different rights from everyone else. They've been fucked over so bad, but the government tries to keep them happy by letting them kill certain animals (I think they're allowed a whale every once in a while). I can say without a doubt that the Canadian government is a racist institution... we don't even have freedom of speech up here either.

Why is it that the minorities govt's "helps" most - blacks and natives - are the worst off?

  • we're talking about the difference between an insect and a mammal. there's a huge difference. insects die in a matter of days, seals are supposed to live years and years. that's why it's more inhumane to kill a seal.

  • That's completely arbitrary.

The seal hunt is humane by sane peoples' standards. It is more humane than what we do with free range animals. And we don't go and kill all of the seals, just a few. And if we didn't, it would have a negative environmental impact due to their overpopulation.

You are a very violent person. I hated the saw movies, but people have the right to show that. Christians used to kill those who opposed them. Your morals are exactly the same - use violence to shut people up.

  • I saw the entire documentary on baby seal clubbing that used to take place when it did. A parent eating their own baby hardly can be compared to what transpired. I saw it, did you? Its pretty horrifying and inhumane. I truly don't support PETA, I don't care about PETA. I just replied to say, your comparison of killing chickens and clubbing baby seals is way off base.

  • No it really isn't. If you compare the life of free range chickens to that of seals, there is a huge difference.

And again, they are not clubbed (except apparently natives are allowed to which I think is bullshit, but that still doesn't happen often). Admit it, you are arguing from esthetics. Don't try to argue about morality just because you don't like how things look. Baby seals are cute and that's why you care. No point in arguing otherwise. It's why you don't care about chickens or rats.

  • What do you mean I don't care about chickens or rats? Who do you think you are talking to? Certainly, not me. I'm also not arguing about morality. I'm arguing about the comparison of clubbing baby seals compared to humanely killing free range chickens. There is a huge gap in your thinking, here.

  • @airborne373 Let me explain this for the retards. See, little piggy "Babe" hasn't done ANYTHING wrong to anyone, unfortunately for it, it's gonna be torture and kill in a slaugtherhouse, completely innocent and helpless, it doesn't know why it's there and why it's kill...

A human piece of shit is always aware of his situation and can "deal" with it, a human piece of shit is probably not innocent, he's one among billions, why in the hell should the death of unsympathic shit be sad to me?
