  • As a Belgian, I am so terribly embarrassed of our politicians' decision to pull out. We had the forces on the ground, armed and ready and we left, we just left. And 10 of our own guys died for nothing, and 800.000 Tutsi's died for nothing.

  • get your fucking act together, first world leaders stand strong and stop cutting and running like cowards. (from a citizen of one of those countries)

  • "its really difficult"!! Pathetic women! You set your alarm at 0200 to make a call, ohhh so brave and resourcefull of you! No politician who was in a position of power at this time should have a career anymore! Stick your head in the sand, make a few speaches, blah blah blah...as westerners we acted without honour, passion or care!

  • General delaire you're a total waste of time and resources u basically did nothing

  • @enchnated what did you want him to do, leave? Seriously are you watching the same documentry as I am? Do you understand a military chain of command? What could he have done??

  • @classicrange760 Im sure if you watched the entire documentary you would have noticed people with much less resources and influence than General Delaire did a whole lot to help even in the smallest way ...perfect example were the Red Cross guy and Captain Mbaye who helped many to escape...so If you really think General Delaire did a brilliant job at saving the Rwandan people then your sense of what help and rescue is..is really distorted dear

  • @enchnated Im saying the UN failed Delaire. Imnot saying he did a perfect job, but you cant hang the complete failiure on him. Have you ever served? have you ever served asa UN soldier? Ask those that have at the feeling of utter failiure a lot of those soldiers have because of how useless the UN is at soldiering. I do not believe I said he did a brilliant job...did I??? But I am sure from your armchaire you could have done his job brilliantly, right?!

  • @classicrange760 well at the moment I'm only trained to be a teacher which I'm doing an excellent job at (words of my school and district administrators)....but if I was trained to be a soldier which I'm clearly not ...I would have given it my all which I don't think the General did

  • Rwanda was not interested for Usa because there is no oil.....otherwise they run over there like crazy....!

  • 800,000 killed.... 76,000 views.... Whats wrong with this picture? The world turned a blind eye towards the atrocities which took place in Rwanda, and still do to this day. Educate, so this will not happen again. Many were to blame...what happened, can not be undone. We need to learn and ensure it doesnt repeat itself. I was recently in Rwanda, a beautiful and peaceful place now, with a dark sad history....

  • if there was diamonds or oil over there you can bet the US wouldve been geared up and ready to go on april 10 after the first days of conflict..

  • I actually feel sorry for America's Government being blamed for all of this - and it's mostly by those who are completely uneducated about Rwanda and it's history. Where's the blame for the colonisation of the Germans, then the Belgians who paid their way into uprising the already present racist conflicts between the Tutsi / Hutu's. Where's the argument of the hamitic-hypothesis ? No where, just blame.

  • @WoWMsFannyAdams I agree. Why is there so much blame on America for not intervining? The rest of the world didn't intervine either- why is America to blame? They didn't start this, cause this or partake in it.

Could America have done more, sure. So could have the rest of the world! The American goverment gets blamed no matter what they do.

Those to blame are those who killed.

  • @WoWMsFannyAdams This is the most reasoned and intelligent post I've read on the subject of the Rwandan genocide as it relates to this program. In fact, on another site, I posted comments almost identical to yours. If anyone's to blame for indirectly turning centuries of ethnic tensions into a nationwide massacre, it's the Belgians (and Hutu, of course). I'm an American who opposes terrible foreign policy decisions (like Iraq)...but I find it hard to find fault with us on this one.

  • why is no one talking about the captain who stayed and protected the people

  • i was there, when this genocide started.

  • was Captain Mbaye killed?

  • Am proud to be senegalese ! Captain Mbaye Diagne is a hero

  • God Bless the RPF

  • first off i will not defend clinton. i hate the guy for getting away with a scandal and not intervening in rwanda.

but you guys, you continue to critique our country for either blasting the hell out of a country or not intervening. irony. and a damn if you do and damn if you don't situation.

even if the US did intervene, the country would be accused of creating more war

  • please do not blame US for everything! And stop coming to America!!!!

  • Capt. Mbaye Digane - Definition of a hero

  • @Zeruel3 i cried when i heard he was killed. he deserves the recognition that paul rusesabigina got.

  • When there's no oil, diamonds or money in the question, UN is useless . Their goal is only to protect business, big ones.

  • ugh, bushnell is sooooo full of shit.

  • @02.16 she tried to force a tear but she couldn't. bitch

  • there is a reson why people hate americans.

  • @parthtd Anybody who hates americans is a lowlife!!

  • hahah what a stupid cunt

  • us is just keep getting more and more ignorant

  • @5:30 that's how journalist should be...

  • WHY DIDN'T WE SEND HIM TROOPS. Jesus.

  • Its hard to know which is worse: the misguided idealism of someone like Bush or the utter pragmatism of the clinton administration; weasel words and crocodile tears where there only real concern is their poll numbers.

  • @maximuslaurius Everyone knows about Bush. But for some reason everyone forgets about all the people that died under Clintons watch.

  • @aqinthe The past 3 United States presidential administrations including the current one have been the most shameful and criminal adminstrations in U.S history. Goerge W Bush Sr, Bill Clinton, George W Bush and Barack Obama all have blood on their hands and on their conscience.

  • First. Can you people stop fighting over a terrible moment in history on a website forum, and get off your ass and do something about things like this? Second. Shut the fuck up. Lastly. RIP Rwanda.

  • @MrFantasticSarcastic... Exactly.

  • I am just totally shocked and angry by this. I watched hotel Rwanda for the first time last week and it made me want to research this further. I am so ashamed and embarrased by the US and the whole world. I have lost respect for the UN and everybody else. I will never review things the same ever again.

  • She is bullshitting everyone... unbelievable!

  • ahahaha! "policy on non-intervention" unless America can make shit loads of money.

  • No one has an obligation to protect you. Buy an AR15 and a lott of .223. learn to protect yourself.

  • thats bullcrap, thats what is called the social contract, thats why theres a police force, ur speaking of the state of nature, survival of the fittest, might makes right. u've got it all twisted bro

  • I do believe that a society has a social contract. one should never depend on that social contract. the state is secretive. it manipulates, it lies, it commits awfull actions. one must keep a weapon to protect onself ftom both crime and tyranny

  • one must keep a weapon, true, but a single individual's attempts in self defiance are futile when matched with the community. it is the states obligation to protect you hence the police force to maintain order and the army to ensure safety from foreign forces. protection of the individual is the purpose of the state my friend. one should depend on it also, because even if i have a kalashnikov, seventy hutus will storm my house and kill me regardless

  • who shot all this footage?

  • various journalists working for various news corporations.

  • america can save everybody nor does it have the right to act unilaterally.

  • This smiling Captain guy is a hero - thats what the Western troops should have done alot more of, sadly we are ruled by wimpy, left wing fruitcakes who only care about thier own skins (or careers!) - this translates into the attitudes of the soldiers and how they are trained in a softly, softly manner.. These Belgian troops who gave up thier arms for example - what a STUPID thing to do but they were only following orders, foolish orders from an ineffective "elite".

  • That is what happened in Rwanda. All that hate that was simmering for so as long as the Belgians were in Rwanda 1917-1962.

  • @andy7666 BULLSHIT YOU FUCKING CUNT! The left-wing has end WWII. Racism is a RIGHT-WING ideology. So without all those fuckign right-wingers this would never have happened at all. Asshole.

  • What a brave, brave man. I am in awe of men like that.

  • The common link between Hurricane Katrina and this Rwandan tragedy is poor Blacks needing help from the American government...and getting

excuses. USA gets rich from exploiting the continent of Africa and its people, but has no interest in helping blacks in the least- Just exploiting US. I do not hate white people or USA, but I am aware of who they are. Judge a man by his deeds, not his appearance. Remember President Bush's Moms comment about the victims of Katrina! It's sad, but true

  • I am American born Dutch and I agree with you. So much hatred directed towards blacks. No wonder they are angry and act they way they do any one would.

  • are you trying to say that they should try and banish hatred with hatred? i just need some clarification on your statement please

  • Stupid comment. You think this massacre was because "Whitey made them feel bad"? What a cretin you are - these are bloodthirsty people, they kill and rape more than others because they want to! :D What joke - you think only Blacks suffer injustices?

  • I never said such a thing. What I said was thanks to the Belgians who colonized Rwanda and split its inhabitants along tribal lines giving no heed to what would happen (despite being told by the British that this would not be a wise thing to do based on their experiences in South Africa, Botswana, and Lesotho) after they left elevated the minority Tutsi over the majority Hutu. Of course this was going to ruffle a few feathers. When you see what is yours and what you worked for taken from you

  • This doesn't hold true. There have been slaughters of many people of many so called "races". We can not police the world. The USA and the UN - neither are the answer. Hearts must be changed.

  • Saying "We cannot police the world" implies that the USA has been decent moraly / ethically - Not true. The US is no different than the many corrupt governments that they help to stand up around the world in support of their pro capitalist, Christian, supremacist western policies. Asking the US to police the world is like asking a wolf to guard your chickens. With all the great USA values, why were folks so shocked to see a black president? USA means, White American 1st, All others last.

  • Yeah, and thats why we allowed a Black President? Hmm, that doesn't quite fit with your "hate filled Whites" theory, does it? The USA is one of the most tolerant places on Earth - what planet are you from sonny?

  • Yeah, acting like beasts is nothing to do with thier nature at all.. *ahem*

  • because you are in power (Tutsi over Hutu) because of outside forces (Belgians) are you telling me that you would not be pissed off at the establishment (Belgians) and their cronies(Tutsi)?

  • their cronies? honestly? ur evidently a product of propaganda so shut the fuck up with ur shit. these fuckers who were gunned down by our glorious inkotanyi used us as scapegoats, they got what they deserved and if ur a hutu extremist then by all means come back to rwanda and live a gud life, if u hv a problem, our boys will handle you

  • face like monkey..heart like animal........DEVIL...

  • Congratulations. Are you a 6 year-old sweety? You learned how to say the same phrase over and over again. Aaaww! You mommy and daddy must be proud. Now go learn something more useful!

  • Everyone Nathan is a product of the high paced world of corporate consumer ignorance. He plays in racist ideals like a child repeats catchy commercial jingles. The USA used hate propaganda like this to steal from Blacks/Native Americans and build prosperity. If Nathan were creative, or had character he would try to build something new to improve the world, but children like him dont have such vision. FYI - Racism isnt about HATE, it's All about GREED! Those who cant build will steal.

  • obiwanfx i am a tutsi, and what i dont understand is that after these brave soldiers stop a genocide they are then criticized for killing killers in DRC operating to launch anoter attck on Rwanda and eliminate the tutsi population. I mean a banyamulenge(congolese tutsi) woman was blinded with a knife by extremists rwan dan hutu in congo.

  • Okay question

I'm doing a project on Rwanda

so why are they in war???

Is it for Money or Power or something

    can anybody help

    thanks.

  • pure hate. Great book!

  • I wonder why black people kill black people and still blame it on whites!!!

How can someone of another race convince me to kill my own brother?

When white people kill white people, do they ever blame it on black people?

And all those fuckin african dictators with Swiss bank accounts, ever heard of a european dictator with an african bank account?

Africans should know that the rest of de world doesn't care. Africa should start loving and caring for its own people.

  • White people kill other white people all the time.

  • exactly. they've always killed other white people. BUT, they don't cry to black people for help!!!! Let's go back to basics, who helped the colonialists and the slave traders??? can u be so stupid and betray your own brother??? for money and lies made by a stranger??? u can't convince me that because some strange told u another black man is evil, ur just gonna fall for that!!! there needs to be serious civic education in africa to let africans stand against manipulation!!

  • You need to grow up or shut up. Stop your racism. Obviously you have never been abroad and have no clue what went on, what is going on, and when you gain a modicum of the intellect you endeavor to project, you will regret the statements you are making here.

  • There goes your kind again. I've come across many of your type over the years. Next time better present a sound argument instead of calling on emotions and superstitions. what proves my comments vehicles of racism? how do u conclude dat i've never been out of my country? how obvious is dat? and why should i regret comments which seek dialogue and enlightment? I guess you are the racist who hides your evil nature behind seemingly good deeds.

  • Okay, once again you lack the linguistic legerdemain to have a cogent argument beyond insults. Good deeds? Emotions? Superstitions? Never used any of them. Grow up! Stop the hating before it destroys you. As for some proving/credentialing myself, there is no need. I have demonstrated my "manhood" in Israel/Palestine, Iraq, Sudan, Bosnia so calling me racist is simply a projection of your own personality traits that are causing you some convicting guilt onto someone you don't like.

  • hmmmmm, i smell a disturbance in the force. Who asked you about your manhood issues? am yet to get a sound argument from you. just sit back, relax, think clear and bring up a sound argument. By de way, u don't have use higher liguistical words to hide de fact dat u have nothing serious to say. keep it simple and bring out sense. PS, if i posted my resume, u'd be proud to have gotten a chance to talk to a guy like me. So let's get some sound stuff from you now :)

  • Lol, yeah. Racism hiding behind a diploma is still racism. Pointing to your legend status. Legend in your own mind maybe. The condescension is fun too. You are being racist in implication when you compare behavior of races in order to cast one in a negative light

  • The Hutu soldiers were demons...evil beyond belief. The devil made his presence known in Rwanda. He stayed there and made Rwanda his home.

  • That's the same excuse they use themselves. They say they were possessed. But that's a crock of shit. People are responsible for their own actions.

  • to albanianmario , Read the facts and get a full understanding of the situation in rwanda dont make such harsh judgement calls with mere scrapes of information

  • Where the HELL is part 8??????????

  • This guy is the worst commender ever, he allowed his own men to be killed in front of him, he saw the 10 captured Belgian soldiers and he did not even say a word to provent their death, he should be responsible for their death and should b in jail...no commender allowes his men to be killed while he watches

  • That man is hero who saved thousands of lives by risking his own. There was nothing he could have done for those troops. They were marked for death by the Interhamwe from beginning in order to drive all Belgian forces from the country.

  • I'm ashamed to be Belgian....

  • I understand how you feel man and I respect that. but what I am saying is, if he had to engage on his own term to save people's life using the little resources he had would have made him a true heroe and am sure canadian government would have helped him. american soldier were in burundi. I don't know man the killers had machettes and he had guns and tanks 90% of victime where killed by machettes. I think he should have just die as a heroe.

  • You talking about Dallaire? Remember that he only had 400 soldiers on ground after the rest of the forces had left. You can't do much with 400 soldiers even if they had guns. And then theres the Hutu government, which have a lot more than 400 troops and they all have guns too.

  • By staying alive, he and his troops were able to guard thousands of Tutsis is stadiums and save their lives. Most of the guards had no guns either. Dying would have been pointless and then thousands of others wouldn't have been saved.

  • do you know what it means to put your life on line for other. you don't just disobeyed the rules and sit quietly. Captain disobeyed the rules, he did put life online to secretly evacuate the refugee. and in the end, he died for it. no offence to the general, but he was a sissy who was afraid to die for a good cause and now he is making million of dollar selling his story. he shaked hands with the devil to save his own ass. fuck him.

  • ok, you're african and have right to be upset with west/un re: rwanda. but you picked wrong guy to disrespect. he personally lobbied for ugandan troops to stay so he could remain. he begged un for troops to increase his effectiveness and secure soccer stadiums as safe havens. the captain was hero, no question. but when he died, dallaire was still there, doing what he could. if dallaire had been killed, then what? un wasn't gonna send replacement. remaining un forces would have been withdrawn.

  • and how has dallaire made "millions of dollars selling his story"? you don't get paid to appear in a documentary.

  • General Dallaire received a medal, but that medal was supposed to be given to Captain Mbaye. i think dallaire was a coward period.

  • you're a damn moron. How the hell is he supposed to fight a force a 32 000 trained soldiers with a small force of a couple hundred? He could have taken all his men and leave the damn place and he didn't. He knew, if he left , the 20 000 refugees under his protection would have died. He disobeyed orders and refused to leave.

  • . What if UN had given more armies? What if US ,french frogs and others acted swiftly?

  • bushnell,bill,albright,annan,UN ur all cunts.

  • Why in the Hell Would Bushnell want Kagame to stop his advance? Just seconds before she said she wanted to find a way to stop the genocide. Kagame at this point was the last hope! Fuck Bushnell, Albright, Clinton, the Belgians, Kofi Annan, The Germans, The UN, & the Hutu extremist responsible for this!

  • "There weren't any other European forces raising their hand in the air."

Well ya should've grown some nuts, eh? Maybe more people would be alive right now. No way to know.

  • Marie Beatrice Umutesi is a stupid bitch. She complains that the RPA killed Hutu's after the genocide. Well isnt it fair that the killer of that man in the bush should not be given a second chance. RPA for Life.

  • I LIVED IN KAGALI DURING THIS--- I am white ---American---I hid 9 Tutusi`s during those 100 days---I HATE BILL CLINTON AND THE UN for doing nothing

  • Did you see the RPA soldiers faces when they saw the hand sticking out.Now those were people affected. I am Rwandese and sometimes I even lose pity because of my natural human selfish character but then let me tell you whoever is reading this. Just imagine for a second that that was your mother or brother or sister and I promise you tears will roll down your eyes.

  • a personal question,are you a hutu or a tutsi?

  • Romeo Dallaire for Canadian Prime Minister.

  • Comment removed

  • Who could blame Mr. Kagame for not being interested in negotiating with the Hutus at that time.

  • If y'all fucking Europeans didn't come and poison them with false racial theories, this shit would have never happened. In a way, it's Europe's fault. Don't come around in a continent and fuck things up and then blame on the people.

  • fyah born the U.N

poor people are always the victims

  • Long live Paul Kagame!!!

  • bushnell..what a total evil fuken bitch..

  • This Rwanda issue is a good example of the foreign policies that are to come if another low-value, self-centered, arrogant elitist, hypocrit democ-rat politician gets to power.

They are as false as CNN!

  • and the award for Best Actress goes to:

    Bushnell

  • ...man she could've done better,not even a tear?!

  • Bushnell is a joke; typical of people in charge during the Clinton years.

  • Comment removed

  • HEY BUSHNELL, get better acting classes YOU STUPID IGNORANT CUNT!

  • @elsoda That bitch never called no one

  • @FrankieTO2 she's so pathetic....

  • How is it at the fault of the Africans. If you nation doesn't have the finances or resources to form a military than you can't aid in situations like this but the US and Western European Nations have the military resources, so it is their responsibility to help (if you ever read the Genocide Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Crimes of Genocide). Plus the majority troops that stayed in Rwanda were AFRICAN and the RPF (you know the group that stopped the genocide) were African too.

  • Mbaye Diagne was a great man hope more people learn about him and goggle his name a great my god bless him

  • Yes!!! I agree!

  • Fuck you cobender, you dumbassed fuckwit.

  • just say fuck everybody. seriously its pretty much the whole worlds fault

  • the west wanted to reduce the number of black people in the world....supporting wars...AIDS can't you see people? Lord have mercy.

  • God bless you, Captain Mbaye Diagne, for saving so many Tutsi lives...you will be remembered throughout history.

    R.I.P.

  • God bless Canadian Lt.General Dallarie as well.

A recent Canadian movie based upon General Dallaire's memoirs "Shake Hands with the Devil" was recently released in theatres. it will be shown in the USA on HBO I think. It has the same name as his memoirs.

  • True dat! The film stars Roy Dupuis and there is also a documentary. Is it true that the film will be shown on HBO????

  • Captain Diange is a true hero in every sence of the word. Same thing goes to Gen. Dallaire, and all the troops whom stayed behind to save lives!

  • "The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing" Edmund Burke (1729-1979)

"He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it. He who accepts evil without protesting against it is really cooperating with it" Martin Luther King Jr.

  • I don't think people understand Bushnell's position. She knew she had no hand over the Hutu's. Her ONLY power was to ask Kagame to do his part to stop killing. Keep in mind she really didn't know what was going on in Rwanda, sitting 5,000 miles away. So in hindsight, her comments to Kagame were rediculous-but at the time I see her point.

  • SHE SEEMS SO FAKE..and she have nerves to ask kagame to stop? nerves! VIVA KAGAME!!!
