this is one of my all time favorites and my dog used to love it as well . but it is so hard to find a copy of this record my copy was nicked unfortunatly along with a load of led zepplin and other stuff i got from my older sister some stuff you cant replace unfortunatly.
Actually the song was the brain child of German Harry Thumann who had previously been responsible for a chart track called underwater. Simon Cowell did however wear the dog suit because he needed the money and was just starting out and low down in the music industry ... there is video of him somewhere wearing it on Multi Coloured Swap Shop

HA,HA. I won a copy of an 8" single of Wonderdog at a Christmas Fair back in about 85. The tune was slightly different to this, not by much though. Anyone got a link for me???
I also got a Wonderdog shield with it that squirted water from the centre??? I'm only finding out now that Simon Cowell was behind it all, which doesn't suprise. If you ask me he has taken a step back, his new act Wonderhorse (Leona Lewis) hasn't got the star quality of Wonderdog.
@HoraceHam Is this Simon Cowell trying to erase his past? :) A lot of my old vinyl has gone missing over the years, I think my nephew has been floggin' them on the sly. Little git. I'll have a look through whats left the next time I'm back in my parents house and see if I can find it. Dont get your hopes up, I haven't seen it in about 20 years.
Simon Bates used to do a wonderdog story over the top of this song on his radio 1 show - Probably be arrested now for cruelty to pretend dogs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think this is great, I used to run a pub in Norwood and this was on the jukebox....while the box was playing random this song came on and I remember it so well. Love it....
I think this song is funny. I discovered it in 1992 when i was round my friend's house next door and came across the record, but her record player did not have a stylus. She finally got one and said to me to listen to the record show had on and I just burst out laughing, so told her to turn it up to see if my boxer dog had any interest in it to see if he barked also thinking a dog was about. He never took any interest!lol!, it wasn't a real dog though so that prolly was the problem!lol!.
How can your dad have bought it for you if you are only 23? It came out in 1982! Which by anyone's guess was well before you were born! I was 10 when it came out and it was the first record I ever bought. It cost 75p In Woolworths. ;-)
Well i didnt mean FOR me but i got it when i was wee and it was my first ever record!! Sorry i was a bit drunk when i was goin through all these old songs and i must have got carried away lol
lol, surprisingly good ;)

They don't make fun songs like this anymore. Which is a pity as all they think of now is how to make everything commercialised. Yuk!
