What a great song this is. Absolutely well put together... melodically, lyrically, recordinglyly... productionly... constellations, are blinking in the sky...
their debut album is still the best among their works.....sink to the bottom, radiation vibe, leave the biker, suvival car, joe rey......that was 15 years ago but still loving those songs.....
I must admit when first hearing this song I thought of the line "they have most of the Barney DVD's as a refererence to the old detective show "Barney Miller". It wasn't until a fair time later that it occured to me that they may have meant Barney the purple dinosaur. LOL Knowing what I do though about FoW & their sense of irony & sarcasism, I now have to wonder if it's a duality reference to both. XD
@gerrocks Think again & do a little homework on Adam Schlesinger & the band as a whole. They'll be remembered by many of us for far more than "Stacy's Mom". Adam alone has nearly as many, if not more credits for writing & producing movie & TV songs as he does on FOW albums. Most noticably is that he wrote the theme song for Tom Hank's film "That Thing You Do". But he has far more credits than that to his name. ;)
@MrAmberRocker while that is be true, if you ask anybody what songs do they know by FoW they'll say stacey's mom and won't have a clue of any other song they released
@gerrocks Sadly enough I have to agree at some point. True talent is seldom recognized & is far too often lost in the shadows untill decades well beyond their time. :(
No, their best song is Utopia Parkway. I'd round out a FOW top 10 with: 2. Red Dragon Tattoo 3. I-95 4. Fire in the Canyon 5. Hung Up On You 6. Mexican Wine 7. Fire Island 8. Stacy's Mom 9. Too Cool For School 10. The Girl I Can't Forget But they have lots of other good songs, too...
Totally agree, this is an awesome song and probably my favourite on the album. Unfortunately it does sound a little like Leo Sayer at times, but I can forgive that! Romantic all the same. Totally under-rated band.
It's the best Indie band ever. Their first cd--1996-- contains favorite song OAT (any band): "Barbara H."

The world would be a better place if all pop was this creative and thoughtful and downright FUN.

@RainSpy14 I can think of some of their songs I don't like, like Strapped for Cash or Traffic and Weather. But every band has some filler songs.
