  • Expert Village IDIOTS! Jesus Christ! :o

  • Hi, im making a film and I was wondering what the best cheap microphone is

  • Thanks for the video..Some of you people are just stuck up ass holes who get there mommy to pay for everything..they are showing easy ways to help make a video...quit being pricks

  • why don't you get aC stand instead of holding the boom for 5 minutes with your strong upper body person?

  • Should have sprung for a lapel mic when recording the host of this video.

  • Could someone please tell me what microphone can be used with the Panasonic SDR- S26 or the Vivitar HD underwater camcorder please? Searched And can't seem to find it :/ thanks

  • Wow. Pretty bad. For one, even a shotgun mic won't get rid of an airplane flying overhead. Don't tell people it will, please. It also won't get rid of air conditioning noise. And that microphone has a foam windscreen on it, not a "cat-tail" which is something he made up, they're called "Dead Cats" or "windmuffs" and they go over a blimp. If you don't know the information, don't teach it to others please.

  • those mic are expensive! fork out money for it, you should give advice in wats the best equipment to buy!

  • I have a Audio Technica ATR 6250 condenser mic. It creates tons of fuzz whenever I use it, I dont want to spend a ton of money on an amazing mic, anybody know how i can either reduce the fuzzy sounds in the background, or recommend a mic that gives little to no fuzz. Thanks :)

  • thanks for the tip

  • Yo Gregg! I envy your equipment... but I have a question: Why are people going crazy over DSLR cameras these days? What's the pros of it? I have a Canon Vixia HV30 and I like it, but I have some money laying around that I could spend on a new camera, but I don't know if it'd be worth it. Lemme' know, thanks! :)

  • @ThePedroChannel They give you that "Movie Look" that you see in theaters.

  • All this stupid arrogant comments... The problem is not at all the quality of the tips - the problem is you all are same kind of short thinking amateurs, who is entusiastic and want to do it yourself, but not understand you need to do a lot of boring, technical work which is not at all inspiring. And that is the reason most of you can never realise your dreams, and when you try it going to be a frustrating mess for you. I feel sorry for you.

  • For those who liked this video, there is a new safe driving video out now by George Michael, and a relationship advice video by Bill Clinton, both available from WTF! Productions.

  • What the fuck is this video suppose to show us?

  • Ironic to make a video about audio with such a bad audio...

  • "This is a Microphone" xD

  • A feature length film made for under $5000

  • You are making a video about film and video sound, and you are HOLDING a shotgun mic in your hand and... THIS is what you present to us?

Seriously, is Expert village some kind of practical joke?

  • @trublgrl Actually this is the typical method for recording production audio on set for feature film and television production. Although he he didn't mention it, you can see that the mic is attached to the boom pole via a shock mount. This (Combined with proper booming techniques) nearly eliminates handling noise. While this brief tutorial is lacking a lot of information, I don't see anything at all wrong with the information that it does provide.

  • @trublgrl not to mention the awful sound quality of this video.

  • @trublgrl Lol man you going in on this wow you made me see it wack thanks

  • @trublgrl

wow, what an ungrateful, spoiled little piece of shit you are. is there anything here you had to pay for?? If not, shut the fuck up, you got your money's worth. If you don't like someone's work, then watch another video. At least this dude probably accomplished shit with his wack skills. What video productions have YOU done??

  • Umm... Why are you giving advice when this video has poor video, sound, and editing?

  • @projektDOOM he giving u tips, not how the videos is like

  • You should get a membership to a gym! =P Thanks for all the info! I'm definitly going to apply that to my next film!

  • Hello Expert Village

It's great that you are spreading your knowledge to the world but the first rule in film and programme making is GOOD SOUND! The poor quality of your sound renders all the hard work and information you are conveying useless, don't use front mic or built in mic it is bad and it is teaching people very very bad habbits. Practice what you preach.

  • You yourself should work on your audio, I can barely here with brand new speakers. I personally think EV sucks.

  • Hello guys, im starting producing a short film, and one of the problems i found was the sound.. I had intention to record the image with my camera, but it has no mic input, so what i think first was buying a pc usb sound card, that suport phantom mics.. About 100€.

Can you tell me if it will work with a mic like this on this movie ?? And where i could find a mic and the "hand" ?? .. Thanks in advance!

  • i have the same problem as you! my solution is i bought a voice recorder with 3.5mm in and out. i then attached my mic to a painters pole and voila a boom pole.

  • im looking for a good HD movie camera for cheep, anyone have any ideas?

  • hdr-fx7

  • what is cheep for you ??

  • Canon HV40 is amazing for about $1000. If your not so cheap go for the XHA1 for about $3000.

  • i got a really good HD camera for Christmas last year. it's small, and it looks great. My dad got it for around 300 bucks.

  • Still looking for an HD camera?

  • yes....

  • for cameras like the HV20 what are good mics to use.

  • It depends what for?

The rode video mic and stereo video mic are both good, especially for the money.

Shotgun mics are great for speech, and condensor mics are good for ambient sounds.

  • azden smg-1x

  • which website can I go look for these boom mics? I cant seem to find it.

  • Why don't they use some sort of steady device, like a large, improvised tripod, to hold up the mic instead of using a person who may get tired and compromise the quality?

  • well movement is one thing.

  • I guess because it just sounds a lot better if you are able to go back and forth from each actor as they speak. The real bitch about these vids is they don't tell you WHERE to find this stuff.

  • its tough to keep it up for 3 to 4 mins

  • lmao

  • The sound was horrible on this video..lol I had to crank it up to hear the guy.

  • the sound has an echo. i think this can be cleaned up in post production

  • thanks

  • How does the mic work? In other words how do you record the sounds and how to you get the sounds perfectly matched up with the actors when they are talking? I Don't really know if that makes sense, but how do you record sound and put it on the computer and get it matched up with the actors?

  • well usually you record from a separate device and then use a directors slate(the board they use to say action with that has all the information on it). Then they bring it into the computer and then they bring in the audio and the video then you shorten the audio and video to where the person slams the slate. thats one of the main uses of the directors slate

  • So when The slate comes down the audio picks that up and when all is done and on the computer you match the sound of slate to the video and and audio? Is that what your saying

  • Yep exactly what I'm saying

  • wow... I didnt learn...anything

  • cool... i was looking for something like this!

  • where can i get one of those mics?

  • You could probably find one online but they are pretty expensive even though there are cheap alternatives

  • do u wanna know what i do in my spare time? i mark your comment "spam" and i give it thumbs down, thats what i do, but u dont see me making a video of it and posting comments about it on people's page.

  • First of all Thank You for the video. I enjoyed it but ironically the sound was not that great, kind of funny.

  • what is that mic called?

  • I guess it would depend on what you want to record. In this I think he has a shotgune mic, its great for dialogue and only picks up the sound that's in front of the derection its pointed, but there are many types of mics that you can choose from depending on your budget, this is a great choice because its cheap and its lighter than the average boom mic that you'd use on a feature. Hope this was helpfull

  • thanks bro it did help

  • its called a directional condensor mic

  • thanks

  • @idontknowjordan it's actually called a hyper-cardiod condensor mic (aka shotgun).

  • My hdr-hc3 ain't got a mic input. I use a dictaphone with a mic input. clear sound from long shots and extreme long shots, can use a boom mic, dynamic mic, condenser, lapel/tie-mic- anything! just be sure to have a head like speak into mic the scene, take and roll, as well as a visual & audible clap.

  • well, the hdr-hc3 isn't exactly a movie camera, even for a low-budget movie... you need at least a Panasonic AG-DVX100B if you want to do something more serious...

  • It's good enough for the projects I do. It's not about the equiptment, but rather about the skill with the equiptment at hand. If ya can find a Panasonic AG-DVX100B at a budget of £300 then fair enough (:

Thanks though, I shall remember that one when I get into the more serious side of the industry.

  • where can i get one of those microphones?

  • kool!

  • great! Thanks :D

  • There are very nice little units that work with regular camcorders. They mount below the cam with the same screw used for tripods and have an opening to still mount that on a tripod. They have XLR inputs and 1/2 inch stereo based on whatever youre using.

  • Robert Rodriguez did that for el mariachi. It proved well for him.

  • nice thanks for the tips

  • KOOL

  • Nice

  • what happens of you have a digital camcorder like a sony handycam? there is no input for a mic for lighting or what ever? what then?

  • when it comes to that, i know some sony's have spots on the top where you can buy a sony bluetooth mic and put it on top......it's not that expensive, but it's only for certain sonys, i got one on my dad's hndycam.....

  • Get the ZOOM H2 audio recorder.

  • you record onto a seperate recorder other than the camera, and sync up the sounds in post

  • err.. what about the recorder, cables, connections, power supplies for outside location use ,wind gags and different mic types ?
