Another feature of the 1998 Melbourne Cup - Zabeel sired the quinella. I'm aware of two other occasions on which a stallion has got the Melbourne Cup quinella: Nassipour with Let's Elope and Shiva's Revenge in 1991, and Night Raid with Phar Lap and Nightmarch in 1930. All three stallions were/are NZ-based. Does anyone know of any other cases of stallions siring the Melbourne Cup quinella?
champagne's run was finished before the line unfortunately, three crowns was horribly buffered into the rails and that is what caused the break in the foot. Terrible tragedy.
Thanks for posting this...Do you or anyone else have of a copy of the the Caulfield cup of the same year ( '98 ) All I can remember is Jezabeel getting absolutely poleaxed...
@seanybob78 I'd like to see that, just so I can get pissed off all over again! Apparently it doesn't matter where the hell you run on the track, as long as you're a "Northern raider" - can you imagine the whinging if he'd been relegated like he should have been???
I would like to sincerely thank you for posting this, i started taping in 2000 and missed the previous years being a young kid and all... thanks so very much! i finally get to see the full thing!

Great to see the whole thing, was so proud to be a Kiwi girl that day. Not so nice seeing poor Three Crowns though :-(

An exciting victory of Jesabeel mixed with a shocking tragedy of Three Crowns.
