  • beautiful ¡¡¡

  • Beautiful

  • As far as I can tell, the instruments of this song are birds, guitar, cobain lyrics, and sinead singing. Yet this version of this song accomplishes more than your average 40 piece orchestra.

  • I love that 90's video noise in background

  • Stunning, beautiful perfect, haunting just fantastic what a voice

  • Okay so I'm a huge Nirvana fan and I love this rendition of the song. Personally I think all those so called fans who whine and moan about covers are exactly the kind of people Kurt never wanted his music to appeal to.

  • @kingcassoni You are totally right. The same kind of people that want their favorite artist to play the same songs the same way forever, until not far along the way they become a cartoon of themselves or blow their own heads off.

  • @kingcassoni I agree. Especially because those people probably never heard David Bowie's version, the original version of 'the man who sold the world' or the original version of "Where did you sleep last night" by Ledbelly. Those were also covers, but Kurt brought them with great respect for the composers of the song. Just like Sinead O'Connor brings this song beautifully.

  • Haunting rendition! Great!

  • Would've been better if the root riff was somehow incorporated into this.

  • This is on par with Nirvana's version if you ask me. I love it.

  • i love this cover but the only thing i dont like is that i think she should have put a little more emphasis in the "in the sun" part like kurt did.

  • It's obviously a very heartfelt tribute -- the blonde boy in the video is no accident.

  • Wow, this is better than the original !

  • Kurt Cobain wrote some of the most cover-able songs ever -- Smells Like Teen Spirit, in particular, is so universal you can play it in ANY style or genre and it still works. SO WHY THE HELL ARE SO MANY NIRVANA FANS SO FREAKIN' OFFENDED WHEN SOMEONE DOES A NIRVANA COVER? Hell, Kurt LOVED Tori Amos' cover of Teen Spirit -- he used to dance to it.

  • This is a great cover version - I know everyone is entitled to their own opinion but for so called hardcore Nirvana fans to slag this off is nothing short of pathetic and these idiotic douchebags should stop mouthing off if they're so narrow minded they cannot see that this is a different interpretation of a beautiful song. Kurt Cobain wrote amazing lyrics and had a lot of respect for genuine artistic and musical talent. I am confident he would have had no problem with this cover.

  • I wish I was like you, easily amused.

  • i like sinead o connor with hair :) this is a good cover

  • OMG she changed the note on 'THE' up a semitone, kurt should have had it like that. its not that offensive actually, im shocked!

  • Mátate weona

  • She is so forthright, and honest. It makes me wonder why I tiptoe around the truth as not to either offend, or reveal the person I feel I need to hide?

  • O'Connor has a "midas voice", in that anything it touches, becomes gold.

  • brilliant. I love Nirvana, and I am quite sure Kurt would have loved this.

  • @tdoesntmatter : he did, Nirvana played this (for the audience) before entering the scene on some concerts

  • I'm a pretty hardcore Nirvana fan, but I love this chick.

  • It was written in the stars ~ she "had" to be the one to successfully do this cover.

Her life, that voice. . .

  • great remake....

  • i think this is the only cover of all apologies i actually enjoy just becouse she didnt try to emulate kurt, his voice and stlye are just unique, like others try to she sang it her way and kept it respectful to him

  • I think Kurt would be proud of this version

  • Awesome cover.

  • The young girl in this video look like vera Famigna.

  • Great Song , Great Artist, Great Cover

  • love it

  • wow..never knew she covered this song..really NICE!

  • although i'm a great fun of Nirvana, I like this cover so much - it's like whispering

  • I'm sorry i thought she said aqua seafoam and shame. I meant to say that the real lyrics that I think she got wrong were "Sunburned freezerburn."

  • I really like this video...a bit slow-paced, but it helps you to really understand what the amazing Kurt Cobain meant by "all in all is all we are."

Btw, I think she got the lyrics wrong at one time.. It's "Aqua-seafoam shame."

  • I don't think she's ever performed this live....

  • Sometimes a musician wants to play something they love. And the voice is an instrument, perhaps the intellect too.

  • So frail and beautiful.

  • i'm pretty sure the lyrics go:

" All in all is all we all are "

  • A simple, sweet version...I enjoyed this!

  • The best thing about a good cover is it really brings out the original writers song craft.

  • When Tori Amos covered "Smells like teen spirit" she said about it being Kurt's Child and that Kurt's child was staying over at her place and spend some time with her.

I assume that Sinead O'Connor had a similar attitute towards this version.

  • I loved Kurt's unplugged version of his song. I have heard it 1000 times. But I love this cover too. Just different. Both are tremendous performances.

  • BeccaAndRyan are a couple of little assholes.

  • Its a great cover...She did it her way. I can understand hardcore nirvana fans NOT liking this, BUT, Im a hardcore nirvana fan, and I think its cool! Its a tribute. She would not have covered it if she would have Not respected Kurt's work right???

  • @TheAudioVengefuls i am a hardcore nirvana fan but i love her interpretation !

  • @TheAudioVengefuls I agree with u, for Sinead to do a cover of this song is a tribute to Kurt, nothing more nothing less, she adds her touch and that is cool, nuff said!

  • learn to spell before you criticize, CREEPY WRECKED

  • If it's that good it won't have ruined it surely?

  • how can it wreck the original, it's not like it has replaced it

  • Comment removed

  • not awful.. brillo !

  • Considering her history I think this a perfect remake for her. Id never have thought of it but the lyrics are a perfect fit

  • i love her voice in a different song..not this song...its a little mis match..but she's great though

  • waves of goosebumps listening to this

  • Gave me chills.

  • her singing doesn't match with the mood of the lyrics

  • Sinéad O'Connor its a really artist, no some other shit made 4 a lot of people who wants to get money.

  • omfg my fucking ears fell off...

  • this might the best cover of any song by any artist that i have ever heard. serious. she took this song to the next level.

  • what a great, magnificent artist, singer, poet,

    ...and yet HUMBLE and Serious.

    I forgot... Gorgeous too!

    Thank you, for video.

    Annika

  • her spirit is raw&magnificent! black Irish

    never say "give"

  • wait i like this. nvm.

  • Comment removed

  • i disagree...it's a sharp contrast from cobain's rendition, because his voice was so raw...but this puts out just as much emotion, but on a feminine level....i think it's lovely!

  • this is beautiful. love it. kurt would've liked this.

  • Damn that was amazing and unexpected!

  • voice of an angel!!!!!!

  • omfg this is flawless.... i listen to ska funk hiphop.. wtf this is THE SONG <3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<#<#

  • Beautifel cover!!

    (L)

  • I love you Sinéad!

  • that was an awsome cover of an awsome song ,beautiful just beautiful

  • What an unexpected cover. Nirvanna by Sinead. Now I've seen everything. I still think it'd be nice to see a Lionel Ritchie cover of a Smiths song though.

  • seriously -- pretty unexpected. whats even more unexpected for me is that i've learned to like this version so much (huge nirvana fan). At first I was put off by it's soft sound but the married/buried part is so awesome in this version.

  • great rendition.

  • This song helped her through a very difficult time in her life...and it is a wonderful tribute from one great artist to another

  • She is so beautiful - especially with hair...

  • nice one, beautiful

  • I dont know about not being straight in her mind. She sure didn't have a "blissful" life, but then they do say that ignorance is blissful.

    sub~

  • She was perhaps not really straight in her mind but what's sure is that she had a lot of talent, really of her own, and thus must be considered as one of the greatest artists.

  • I agree with you...but her voice is like

    an angel... :)

  • HAS a lot of talent

  • I don't like it

  • Oh, god. Never thought that she is so close to Cobain's soul. Thanx Sinead...it makes me cry...

  • This Cover is awful. The hook to Nirvanas original was the riff the guitar repeated throughout the song. That blended with Cobains vocals created a beautiful melody.

She replaced that beautiful melody with range less singing over what sounds like a ticking clock. AWFUL

  • its not awful and you're clearly sent to earth to fuck everything up for everyone else

  • LOL, that was a great reply

  • not sure why the single greatest artist of the last 20 years would lower herself to this level...to cover nirvana...everything she's ever done is GOLD! She is the most beautiful talented singer/songwriter ever. and THE best live show i have ever seen

  • you need to see some more shows bro

  • Some argue that NIRVANA was the greatest rock band of the last few decades. This because of their originality, rawness, and artistry. In addition, NIRVANA's lyrics are much deeper than how most people interpret them. I mean, just listen to the lyrics of this covered song. Lastly, Sinead O'Connor and NIRVANA are very similar in their philosophies. I really think that you need to reconsider that statement because I think they are both exceptional artists.

  • Are you kidding? Perhaps you should get out of the house more often. THE best live show ever? Who do you even have to compare? Let's see maybe that Milli Vanilli show you went to back in 1991.

  • i'm comparing that to the more than a dozen times i've seen u2, half a dozen peter gabriel/springsteen/sting shows, etc. i've seen pretty much everyone worth seeing...and in their primes. NO ONE delivered the goods like a young, passionate, pissed off sinead. its funny that all the artists on those amnesty international tours from 86-88 were the best artists of the last 25 years. no other artist could cover the artists that she did, and do them justice, & that many genres. buy her records!

  • I guess that everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, saying that you've seen "everyone worth seeing.. and in their primes" is narrow-minded. Did you ever see Nirvana? I'm sure that if you had you wouldn't think Sinead O'Conner's version better.

  • my dog hate music....

  • Obviously you if you are commenting!

  • sounds like a 15 years old on youtube putting up a lame horrible video.... you can do better... or not do it at all...

  • listen to Tori Amos' cover of "Smells like teen spirit" it is really good in its on way

  • I like Patti Smiths version live better.

  • I think this is a very cute cover (and "cute" is by no meand meant negatively, here)...And I tink sebastian577 is right: Coverers should "do their own thing" - that's the "Cat-Power-Way" of covering songs...

  • what else should I say?

    great

  • whats with the hate She is awesome and loves Kurt please stop hating and making this beautiful song ruined

  • In the sun I feed as one, In the sun.....

    wonderful!!

    Thanks Kurt and thanks Sinead....

  • Lame. Kurts version was so INTENSE! You could feel his grit, sorrow, emotion. POWER. This kinda drained it.

  • yeah I was thinking this was to soft when I was watching it.

  • lol, i prefer an artist actually doing something own when covering a song rather then doing a boring carbon copy of the original.

  • Gotta love your use of Caps Lock and search for intensity. Where were you in the nineties (and before), where do you live? Iowa? The experienced ones are over intensity, emotions and power - and have been for a good decade, some of them for two, some other for even longer. How old are you?

  • excelente cover...

  • Kurt and Sinéad were friends, and I'm sure he would be proud of her amazing cover.

  • wer dey actualy friends

  • Thank you sinead, for doing this song.

  • i luv her voice ~

  • Great cover.

  • That's Marco Pirroni playing guitar on this song---from Adam and the Ants!

  • rip kurt

  • Anybody know of a TAB for her guitar playing? I'm very new to the whole guitar thing and Sinead's version would seem to be easier to play-'n-sing-along than the original. I'll keep practicing the Nirvana tab, of course, but I'd sure appreciate having this one in the interim.

  • She's just playing the D barred chord over and over and then playing the bridge and chorus the same as Nirvana.

  • Spooky video - like it

  • best cover ever, better than yellowcard's cover

  • I'm a huge Nirvana fan, and a huge Sinead fan, and don't ask me why but somehow today it was actually the first time I listened to this cover. Well, not too sure about the ever thing - I think the crown still belongs to Sonic Youth covering I Wanna Be Your Dog, but... let's just say that was close. Definitely one of the top three covers of all time. Outlandish.

  • i really liked it

  • love it

  • i think this is brilliant =)

  • Hmmm...I'm definitely a Nirvana fan, but not feeling this. Guess it pales in comparison to Sinead's cover of Elton John's "Sacrifice" that I just saw on YT yesterday. Check it out, seriously! I watched Elton's video of it AFTER I saw Sinead's - what a hoot.

  • I'm a life long nirvana fan and think this is fucking beautiful. Best cover I've heard, of any Cobain song, imo.

  • it's nice

  • I never got Nirvana. I wish I did, But I didnt.

  • Hahaha, i know where you're coming from, i only got into them like, last year - wow. And they're supposed to be the pillar of my generation! Kurt's music is very self indulgent. What i like about his music is the vulnerability... I used to think Nirvana was cockrock! But no, thei're far from it.

  • How old are you? 11? Nirvana's grunge sound defined a generation who's parents were coming off of disco. Maybe you just missed it!

  • I was a big Pixies fan before I had heard of Nirvana, and always just thought that they were just another band influenced by them.

  • Surfer Rosa and In Utero were incredible albums. I read that Kurt was, in fact, a big pixies fan by the way. He appreciated the way that they manipulated the electric guitar/amp sounds...

  • nirvanna WAS influenced by the pixies kurt even said so

  • i miss kurt, thanks sinead

  • fucking perfect, the way she says each word like it's so meaningful

  • LOVE HER VOICE!!!!!!!!

  • this is a great interpretation!

    and i love Nirvana.

  • just to piss you off

  • jajajajaja!!!!!

  • idiot

  • dont compare sinead to tori, thats just ridiculous. tori a real whack job, sinead is just very passionate. but i do think the rendition is a little too creepy..

  • No one's forcing you to listen to either. Why don't you save your opinions for people who actually care?

  • Consider it an honour to Nirvana that Sinead sings this. she has a great approach to other's songs, going directly to the heart of it.

  • all in all is all we are :))

  • i've never heard this version of Nirvana! Not bad, but i miss the electric guitars:))

Your fav song of them, as i can remember...

  • SUCH A BEAUTIFUL VOICE!!!!!!!

  • religion killes

free your mind, do NOT be layze

  • Religion as it is made by man kills and stunts the intellect. Religion based on faith and action exalts. Don't lump all religions into being a means to "control the masses" as Marx put it- realize that there must be truth in the universe to some extent. I agree though that too often people are horribly lazy when it comes to seeking out truths, and are content to just sit back and do nothing and in return get nothing from "religion".

  • Appreciate Your comment

I am An Atheist, not agnostic.

  • she is very good fantasic the most influently singer with madonna und bjork so great

  • the original reef is the best one

  • nope this is.

  • reef!!! I think you mean Nirvana my friend

  • love karel.love sinead.

  • Would have been better if she hadn't substituted the nice riff of the original for a palm muted power chord.

  • newman ...

  • eh, F the Pope you moron !

  • you WILL pay for saying that YOU moron

  • I think Jesus already paid for that little sin with some blood, bub !

  • The Pope------grand overseer of pedophiles.

    I'm sure he's your hero.(or fantasy)

Just shut your pie hole----this is a song goddamn it !

Keep your God Dogma on a chain away from music vids !!!!!!!

  • Sinead repudiated that action and said it was a misunderstanding.

  • ask your doctor to adjust your lithium my friend

  • Tearing a picture isn't sinful.

As for the pope, didn't he intentionally cause the slow and painful deaths of thousands of african babies?

I think you'll find he did.

So one picture versus a pile of dead babies. Hmm. It's obvious which is more important to you.
