Billy is such a down to earth good guy, how many other rockstars of his caliber do you know that would take time out of their busy schedule to do something like that? Not many.
Was this your own guitar or did Billy let you play on his axe? And if it was your own guitar, how did you manage to take with you it into the hall? Security staff was bribed maybe :-))
It's nice to see a famous musician actually take the time to sit down with a novice and teach them something, unlike some other knob lickers who have no time for their fans.
@SebbeSucksBawlz I met Joe Bonamassa last week after his show in Worcester Ma, he was very mellow, and spent allot of time with the fans. Very cool and very polite.

@djerwulfe-Well, I think Page is good, really, I do, I have to be honest. I also have to be honest and say he is one of the most overrated guitarists ever. I'm sorry, but "Stairway To Heaven", while a beautiful song, is not the "be all and end all" of guitar playing. I'm not trying to shoot him down, just stating facts.
I'm seeing these guys in September, but I doubt I'll be getting lessons. I was always surprised that he didn't have a gritter, more drawling Texas accent, but it doesn't surprise me at all that he's as nice as he is. This is a guy who plays from the soul, and you can't do that if you're busy being an asshole. Anybody who truely loves to play will never miss a chance to talk about it.
@CDenic Your so right!! I think Mr.Gibbons should make a video giving a lesson or 2 for the next generation of young rockers or 4 anyone who would like 2 make the purchase.Even if its just 1 song.Hed be doing something really good 4 the kids. This way-hed be able to reach alot of kids..not just 1 or 2 here & there.Hed get points w/god 4 sure!! He seems 2 be a very nice man. Smokinmo11.
That's awesome dude! Got a lesson from one of the maestros who took some time to show you that technique. One of the best moments in your life I'd bet!
Wauw, I so envy you, that's a once in a lifetime opportunity, man would I like to meet him, he's so cool and an amazing guitarist, one of the bests, ZZ Top ROCKZZ!!
billy bough me a beer one night at a hole in the wall bar in houston couple of yr.s ago dude is the kind of man you think is all spooky natured but he the coolest cat in all of hot as hell texas! he was talking to me like i was his best friend patting my shoulder and cracking jokes the entire time. long live the Rev.Willie G. !!!
I met Billy when I was about your age. I was unprepared for how friendly he was! I expected a quick handshake and hello, at the most. Then he started an actual conversation but I was too nervous and I'm the one who said I had to go :-D
A couple of people where I work (fellow car enthusiasts like Billy) have met him at car shows and they told me that is is a class act of the highest order. I really like what I saw in this video, taking the time to show a young guitarist the finer points of a technique. Jimi Hendrix was noted for that also, he would never tell a kid to get lost who asked him a question about guitars and playing music. On the other hand, Jimmy Page has always been a party pooper when it comes to things like that.
Sad, but true, Hejj 10, and I have heard other corroborating stories that are similar to the incident depicted in the book "Hammer Of The Gods" the Zeppelin biography. During the "Led Zeppelin III" sessions, some kids were out and about, and came upon Page. One had a guitar, and asked him to play. His response? "Uh, I don't know how". I know most celebrities are like that, for sure, but definitely not Reverend Willie G.! :)
Good news to hear, seriously. I hope he knows how many people he has inspired and whose lives he has made better in some way. Maybe age has changed his perspective. In any case, I am glad he was respectful to you..:)
@GonzGunner Got to agree with the Jimmy Page comment. Reading their biography and it seems like the whole band were a bunch of fucking cunts..especially Bonzo...still love their music though...
@GonzGunner - If I am remembering my Rock 'n' Roll history correctly, Billy Gibbons was, at one point, Hendrixes favorite guitarist. Hendrix supposedly made that statement one night when he appeared on "The Tonight Show With Johnny Carson."
@JasonBunting -Actually, on that Tonight Show appearance, he mentioned, words to the effect, that Billy was one of his favorite new guitarists. He even misconstrued his last name, he called him "Billy Gibson", LOL! Duane Allman, about a year later, said that Billy was "one guitarist to look out for". It's funny, because amongst all those kinds of accolades, Johnny Winter has never made a secret about his dislike of Billy-( continued with next post)
@JasonBunting - Johnny Winter said about Billy; "He always thought he was a star, and always acted like one, he could get annoying at times". I don't know how Johnny may think of him now, both of them now in their 60's, but I would bet that he respects Billy's playing and songwriting, in spite of his sometimes "out there" persona, that mirrors the directions that ZZ Top has taken during their long career. And yes, Jimmy Page is big time English....LOL! But he loves ZZ Top and has said so! :)
@GonzGunner Jimmy Page is well over rated' For me Billy Gibbons has a better ear for what he's playing and from some vidoes/interviews including this one that I'ce watched he's a nicer guy. Nice touch taking his time to show this kid some stuff.
@bloobear1 -I know what you mean. When I was in middle and high school in the 70's, I'm telling you, every ten seconds it was wet the shorts about Jimmy Page, he was the greatest, if you can't play Stairway To Heaven, the greatest song ever written, you were no guitarist, blah, blah blah. Let me tell you, when a guitarist in my neighboring city of Pasadena named Eddie VanHalen burst onto the scene in 1978, Jimmy Page became obsolete overnight. Stairway To Heaven was just another song.
@DarthKazi.... i assume you have never heard of the likes of Eric Clapton, Paul Kossoff, Peter Green, Jeff Beck, Keith Richards, Pete Townshend, Alvin Lee and Mick Taylor to name but a few.......muppet.........
@DarthKazi dude, why are you so hostile? dare anyone have an opinion not favorable to yours and you go off like a roman candle. you need some serious kif!
Its nice to see an old salt of a blues player taking a few minutes with some punky kid that is learning to play. The woman my guess is either helping hand, kids mom, or one of zztop boy's lady. Either way, she looks to be enjoying that Dusty is busting balls with Billy and the camera. Nice to see some behind the scene footage.
I think anyone that meets Billy and gets to talk to him is very fortunate. He seems like a real gentleman. You can't expect him to stop what he's doing and give you an entire lesson. And muting is very important. Lucky guy!
Man, Billy is like that. He's not a snob at all. He can tell if you are being a real person and in the right environment, he will engage with you completely. He's not like most celebs, but you might not see it unless you can catch him in the right circumstances.
we were at the orange bowl and before the game i was given the once in a lifetime oppritunity to get a signature a meet Billy Gibbons... so after I got his autograph I asked him what guitar he thought was 2nd to his 1959 les paul. He told me that it would be the 59 reissue.. I guess he noticed I was quite interested in guitars and invited me to his dressing room where he talked to my dad and I for about an hour! As well as giving me some pointers on guitar. In was the best day of my life!

we were at the orange bowl and before the game i was given the once in a lifetime oppritunity to get a signature a meet Billy Gibbons... so after I got his autograph I asked him what guitar he thought was 2nd to his 1959 les paul. He told me that it would be the 59 reissue.. I guess he noticed I was quite interested in guitars and invited me to his dressing room where he talked to my dad and I for about an hour! As well as giving me some pointers on guitar. In was the best day of my life!

That's great, you hear so little of famous people doing things like that.

Billy and ZZ Top are cool as can be. Them guys are not the typical bunch of stuck up crap groups. They take time for fans, old school. I love ZZ Top!
