You should not play the 6th string on C, but don't ;ose sleep over that, it's pretty minor. Go to kickstartguitar dot com video lessons page there are lots of lessons there, most have chord diagrams on screen.

When ever you want to, improvise, you do not need to stick to a set pattern.

Hi. Most of the notes in the intro sequence are played on the B string, either at the first fret or open, so I don't know why it should sound different. Check your tuning is all I can really suggest.
