  • Who is the tenor, please?

  • I've only recently discovered Anna Moffo and each video leaves me speechless. What a performer!

  • So full of sorrow. It really touches the soul.

  • She should have never gotten a nose job.

She looked much more beautiful without it.

  • BELLISIMA ENTREGA DE AMOR PURO!

  • WOW! And longer words of great passion in praise of Moffo's voice, it's tremendously compelling, not to mention the pleasure of watching her sing! With thanks to her devoted student Dayna for bringing this video to my attention! ANDY

  • Why, y, the nose operation.

    A pity.

She was much more authentic without it.

In opera, we are always looking for authenticity, in every respect.

  • (Ah,non credea mirarti) Oh, I didn't believe to see you so quickly extinct, o flowers; you have passed away like love that one day only lasted. Perhaps new life my tears will bring to you but to revive love my tears, o no, cannot. O, inconceivable human thought a wave of contentment I am full: In my feelings I can hardly believe you assure me, o my treasure (darling). O, embrace me, and always together, always united in asingle hope, of the world, we live in. we will make a heaven of love.
  • Superb acting, subtle and moving. Brava!

  • i dont know why, but through this whole video, especially in the profile of her in the beginning, she looks like callas. its not a bad thing, but she doesnt look like herself in this. something about the nose.

  • @moghedien13 Anna Moffo had a "nose job" at some point in time (subsequent to these older performances) - so she looks different in her later films.

  • @moghedien13 I find it true!

  • This video is a masterpiece.

    1. Her singing is exquisite, beautiful voice emission, legato, style.

    2. Her acting is exquisite, also credit should be given to director Mario Lanfranchi, her husband. Pain in her eyes but also a lost gaze of eerie sleepwalking.

    3. She sings about the withered flower and then she opens her fist and there is no flower, nothing there: wonderful visualization of illusion, dream, nothingness.

The black and white enhances the dreamy atmosphere.

  • @minnie888444 - Unquestionably the Moffo voice. But I would not have recognized her. A magical performance.

  • others may try, but this is it...she's amazing...pure art!

  • @bcndn63 ...So true....and she was so young here too.

  • she does this really well, and she looks and acts great as well!!

  • I wonder what year this was

  • @eze102 1956

  • Elle est géniale.... Que a se taire et de l'écouter ! Merci AV

  • pretty with a georgeus voice... love her sooo much

  • i think if she had great natural technique but like so many singers didn't know when to say no, or failed to keep working on her technique daily to keep it pure. her sound is gorgeous. perhaps she is the female distefano in being natural but losing her voice early for lack of study, i dont know but i love her and her sound, its too bad she had trouble. i have yet to hear a poor recording of her but it seems to be common knowledge that her voice suffered. perhaps the music she sang was too much.

  • Sublime !

  • At first, Mdm. Moffo was not dramatic, she was lyric, so its not to compair with Callas, because both are very different actors, but her voice was better she was more nice, she made no scandals and did always her duty by singing, so she was in her time for me the real Primadonna assoluta of the both ! She had sung very mutch operas and also operettes. Very sad, she is gon too early.

  • Its no wonder she had a big career.. She could sing, she was musical, she observed dynamics and she was NEVER boring. I love her.

  • AND she was pretty !

  • @kgarmaker123 Yes sir!!!

  • @kgarmaker123 I love her too!!!

  • O MY GOD I HAD NO IDEA ANNA MOFFO HAD A NOSE JOB! Did that affect her singing voice at all ? When did she get it done ? I'm used to seeing that glamorous Audrey Hepburn like Anna Moffo of the 60's. Anyways, I think she should have kept her natural nose. She would have looked like u know who - Maria Callas' nose was not small and no one ever said anything about that.

  • You have to be in order to be in opera....think about it.... A woman will get stabbed, sing for about 10 minutes, and then die. But lovely voice, no?

  • Certified Intergalactic!

  • This is ANNA MOFFO? I kind of doubt it..hmmm the voice..maybe..but the face,,

  • The film quality is poor and she did have her nose fixed after this was made. The voice, though, is unquestionably Moffo.

  • Anna Moffo had a nose job in the 60s.

  • It's artificial, material.

  • It is strange hearing Moffo's voice come out of this unknown girl. Does anyone recognize the other male singers?

  • Plinio Clabassi is count rodolfo

  • Thank you. Danilo Vega is Elvino.

  • he's quite bad...can't even sing his 2 little lines legato.

  • Oh my gosh! This was before her nose job!!! Love it! She definitely looked different afterwards!

  • What a lovely voice!

  • Now I am sobbing...Sayao, Callas also divine...

  • Anna csodálatos vagy és gyönyörű!

  • Ich verneige mich postum, vor Anna Moffo.

    Diese herrliche Stimme lebt weiter.

Thank you, - vaimusik - für diese schöne Arie ! DANKE !

  • Not only her voice, she herself was one of the beautifullest Sopranos in face and figure.

  • Grande La Moffo, best performans, great Opera !

  • Anna Moffo excelled in virtually everything she sang from bel canto opera, to Verdi and Puccini, to operetta. This performance is no exception: beautiful tone, pure legato, good breath control, stylistic interpretation. I'd place her performance in the company of those of Patti, Tetrazzini, Galli-Curci, and Sayao.

  • I will be buying this video. Wonderful. I love Sonnambula and I love Moffo in this.

  • She looks like Maria.... :O Oh Good!

  • Yes beautiful indeed. Id rather not watch someone mime though.

  • Callas and Bidu Sayao are the ones for me.

  • Wow...Fantastic!

  • One of the best performance from Dec.1959,UNIC!...love all of it!

  • not my favorite soprano but very good

  • I'll be sure to look.

  • Beautiful and deep...

  • AAAhhhh I cannot stop watching this. I always find myself coming back.

  • beautiful

  • OUTSTADING!!!!!

  • Fantastic, shame she lost her voice relatively early too

  • Just beautiful, thanks for sharing!

  • I hadn't listened to this aria for a while, until my sister introduced me to this video. She is exquisite. Thank you.

  • Wow. It is just so well placed and clear. I love it.

  • wow I am stunned by not just her sensuality but by her maturity. She is just 24 here?

    Wonderful.

  • Ah, do not forget that Tebaldi was 24 when she sang for La Scala's reopening, also Mozart had 17 year olds singing his title roles... but Moffo is ageless...

  • She was only 24. Wow !!!

  • Moffo oozed sensuality from a early stage of her career.

  • Brava

  • Perfect. The last I heard this Callas was singing it..... this sounds much better!

  • Sempre nel mio cuore, Anna.

  • love her!

  • I had forgotten when Moffo started her career... I thought it was much shorter than this, wow. Beautiful singing of Bellini.

  • It IS beautiful Bellini singing. Makes me wish she had sung Elvira. I can just imagine.....

  • She did a video of it...

  • Thanks a million. I'm going to check that out.

  • Moffo singing here is truly lovely. Her voice has the right feminine, plaintive quality this aria requires.

  • Perfection. I sang this in college. Moffo's my favorite.
