  • do it works in a strato?

  • I appreciate your chord work and I like that guitar. I love P90 pickups.

  • @HMJohnsonGuitar Thank you, friend, for your comments. They mean a lot coming from a marvelous player such as yourself - I would recommend everyone take a peek at the fine playing shown on your channel! = Glenn

  • @HMJohnsonGuitar I don't think the Gibson P=90's come close to the PRS p-90's in Tone Quality and overall Sound the PRS just kills the Gibsons

  • Those are gibson p90s?

  • @MorlowKing They are.

  • Pete Townshend-ish? :) Nice guitar and playing !!! :)

  • @arntpa It IS Pete Townshend. The song is 1921. Album, Tommy (1969) :)

  • All guitars with p90's in my experience have alot of hum but i really didnt notice that with this guitar.....

  • @Notso94 It'll hum....a lot to do with the wiring in a particular location too.....you just have to position yourself correctly to where the hum is least noticeable.

  • @superfuzzymomma Get an alligator clip, solder it to longish length of wire solder the other end to coin (or something similar.) Then clip the alligator clip to the stop tailpiece and tuck the coin under your belt (in contact with your skin.) Hum gone.

I only do that when recording. I'm a single coil guy. So, a little 60Hz hum doesn't bother me.

  • So, how were the frets when you bought it? Tuners? I am awaiting the doorbell to ring, as Thomann is delivering one of those beasties here today or tomorrow!

  • @PreacherofArrakeen Right out of the box everything was fine - everything. I have not even had it set up since I got it six years ago! Good luck with yours! Glenn.

  • @superfuzzymomma

Thanks for the reply! It arrived today, and it is perfect! I am surprised, because I've had issues with the 3 other Gibsons I've had. This one is a killer guitar!!!

  • @PreacherofArrakeen I'm glad Gibson seems to be on a roll! Glad you like it, man....And many years of "Glorious Noise" to you. Hey, are they still being made with baseball bat necks?

  • @superfuzzymomma

Yeah, the neck is a bit thick, but I have an SG Junior, so I expected it. I've been putting the Classic through its paces in Amplitube 3, it is absolutely killer. The chunky neck seems to fit my hand very well, and I can do runs and licks up and down the neck effortlessly and cleanly. It just feels like a real 'Solid Guitar!' :-)

  • @PreacherofArrakeen Exactly, the neck also fills my hand perfectly. I got used to it real quick - and I have smaller hands. The guitar has kind of ruined me for any smaller sized neck. Solid Guitar Indeed. Glad you dig it! Peace, Glenn

  • @superfuzzymomma

And the same to you. Notwithstanding the New Guitar Effect, I think I've found my Holy Grail of electric guitars, lol!

    Cheers,

    Glenn

  • I thought this video was about cleanin pickups on SG :)

  • what kind of amp are you playing through?? sounds great...

  • @PeteWojMusic Blues Junior, straight in. Thank you, Friend!

  • @superfuzzymomma sounds great! Blues Jr's are my favorite production line amplifiers.... best tone/bang for the buck. cheers.

  • Ok...you just sld me on SG Classic dude...great playing...super cool video...thanks SFM:)....

  • I'd always wondered how Townshend got that beautiful tone on Live At Leeds, particularly that "warble" that punctuates his playing. Now I know, thanks!

  • sounds classic, im getting an sg in a week, its only an epiphone one but i still cant waiit!

  • Excellent demo! I'm a massive PT fan and someone handed me this guitar to play at GC about 2 years ago....I haven't stopped thinking about the tone and feel of this guitar since.

  • love the Live At Leeds riff.......

  • @surfstrat59 !!

  • Very nice demo bro. How much would a pair of p90's like yours cost? I have a Gibson Sonex if you know what that is... which I purchased in 1981 and have been wanting to experiment with. Blessings and keep up the cool work. Ed

  • @twoormoremusic Hey Ed....I think new Gibson P-90's are selling for like $120 bucks a piece - whole lot of boutique pickup companies also make a version. Gotta look up the Sonex - Blessings back at you, and thanks for taking the time, ya know? Glenn!

  • Way to demo this SG, clean, ringing note with nice sparkle on top.

  • @red89strat Thank you a lot red89strat....a camera with a shitty mic...seems I got lucky!....all the best to you!!!!!Glenn

  • Im getting this guitar for christmas, I absolutley love this video. The best video showing this guitar. Are you playing through a blues junior? Whether or not do you remember what you had the settings on? Thank you!

  • @ledzeppelin174 Hey, thank you for the compliment. Yep, Blues Jr., nothing else. Settings probably -bass and treble 6 or 7 - mid 4 - fat switch ON, Volume cranked, Master 3 or 4. And very important, before the grungo lick at the very end (when volume on guitar goes to 10) the vid was played with the volume on the guitar at like 2 to 31/2. Congratulations on the SG Brother, hope you'll love it, and it just makes you want to play and play!

    Peace, Glenn

  • At least we'r'e ALL talking guitars here!

  • I just checked out one of these. Great guitars! I've always had my gripes about SGs being off balance and neck heavy, but the p90s make this a whole new animal. I'm realliy loving the tones.

  • Top 5 Guitar company's as it stands today. 1.Fender Corp. 2.Epiphone. 3.Jackson. 4.Ibanez. 5.Gibson Corp. This is for YOU Lockpicker2k.

  • Lockpicker2k who the fuck asked YOU your opinion you little bitch. Learn how play guitar first asswipe befor talk to me. Truth is a bitch.

  • Awesome! I love my SG, wish I had one with P-90's as well. Please do some more videos, anything from The Who would be great. Gibson's ROCK!

  • Epiphone guitars today are some of the very best crafted guitars on the planet. And there way under price. Gibson models are WAY OVER PRICED. EPI MAN 4 LIFE.

  • @stratdem Who asked you? If your an EPI man then go watch EPI videos! /s

Now where's that youtube ignore button? -__-

  • You have the Who chops down brother , and its a great showing of that axe my friend!

  • @axeslinger56 Hey, Thank, Bro! I gotta get to work doing more of this stuff, any suggestions? I can't promise but I'll sure as hell try!

    Rock! Glenn

  • Cool riffing, I only wish I could see your fretting hand, there's virtually zero Townsend/Who instructional material available. Rock on...

  • @Purplexi See my Vid - Gibson SG Classic P-90 Pickups - Clean-ish! Ninteen Twenty One - It shows the left hand. I wasn't aware of the lack of Pete instruc. material as you point out....I gotta get working on that. Thanks, man, you can find the left hand Vid on my channel home page......Glenn!!!

  • at 1:04 slipped in a little Steppenwolf/Pusher Man there didn't you?

  • @lde47 You just made me hear that for the first time, but you should really be telling that to Peter Townshend!.....good ear!

  • Sounds GREAT! Love the Who riffs you're spewing out, too! In fact, I don't know about you, but I personally think that Townshend should've gone back to using the SG Special w/P-90's through the Hiwatts, or at least a Hiwatt half-stack. THAT was HIS definitive tone, and it was never the same after he moved away from that setup, and onto Les Pauls, Schecter Teles, Strats and the like.

  • two p90 ?

  • By the way, I was the spazz who accidentally hit the thumbs down button. And thank you everybody for watching and commenting!

  • this guy has the best sounding tone ive ever heard!

  • @bluesxyzify "I think the PRS SE with Soapbars blow this thing AWAY!

  • what kind of neck is this I've meaning to find out cause' I will buy a guitar and i want this kind of neck with it?

  • @zut25 This one is an '05, and it only has what I can describe as Babe Ruth's baseball bat for a neck. Don't know if Gibson still makes them with this neck?

  • how do the p90's do on noise level? im thinking of installing one into my guitar and i have heard that the noise hum can be very loud, if so any suggestions on noise cancelling or overall suggestions on brands or anything? i play in a leslie west mountain style.

  • @srvledoux9 Hey there, congrats on the influence, Leslie is a monster! Yea, the pickups can be a tad noisy, this also depends on how sound the electrical wiring is in a particular location. I just look at it as as something to be expected, it isn't troublesome to me, nor does it get in the way of anything. You could try a noise gate? Or if you wanna do vintage Leslie, get an old LP Junior and plug it straight into an old Sunn PA head and max it. Really, the hum ain't that bad! Glenn

  • nice playing...i love my sg classic...i chose it over any other sg...they did something right with this guitar

  • Thumbs up if yoy play an SG....

  • I Play by ear. I could learn this in half an hour or so.

  • @djibizu666 me too, its really cake.

  • song no, sound lol

  • the song is so much better than les paul even clear lolol

  • Great vid man, 1921 is an amazing song and what a great guitar this is. i just ordered my own. thanks for the great demo

  • @TehSxeNerd Good luck with it brother, its gonna serve you well!

  • psh who says you need a tremolo

  • This video inspired me to learn this song. Now I'm waiting for my Reeves Custom 50 PS amp. Thanks for posting the Video, and nice playing.

  • @maseratialfa Man, your comment just makes all the work worth it. Thank you. And by the way, in a couple of days I'll be re-posting this song specifically to show the right hand, so keep an eye out. 1921 is really beautiful isn't it? - one of my top ten Townshend songs. And I don't have to tell you, you already know, your amp is amazing, I love them!, perfect wattage, a tone that is really singular....good luck with it and lets hear it, cool? Gln.

  • @superfuzzymomma Yeah the Reeves will be my first real amp, should be interesting with the SG standard, and classic. Have a Wattson (univox fuzz clone) as well. I'm just learning my way through Live at Leeds, I'm sure my gear is way better than my abilities, but better than the other way around. I'll keep an eye on your channel, I think it's great. You can check out my channel if you like, it is different musicaly than what you would expect from a WHO/Townshend fan. Off to check out your latest

  • @maseratialfa . You picked yourself one superb album to learn, and you know, the guitar there is really pretty easy stuff. And damn fun to play. I know some of it by ear, gonna post a run through of Amazing Journey. If you ever have a question on any of it I hope you'd ask. Speak soon, ok? Will check out your channel right now, Gln

  • cheers glenn much appreciated

  • @diamondog99 You guys make it worth it, diamondog99. Thank You!

  • share the love...next time show the left hand as well...

we could all have had a townsend guitar lesson

  • @diamondog99 Guilty! First Vid made and poor attention paid to framing the shot. I'll get to work making another pass at the song showing both hands for a more suitable "lesson". Thanks, Glenn!

  • play the gutiar for what its meant for ROCKK

  • Gotta feeling 21 is gonna be a good year. Nice work

  • "tommy can you hear me!"

  • Great Demo! I had this guitar from mid 07-09. I sold it because I needed money. Dumbest mistake ever! I absolutely love this guitar! I have to have it again! It was my dream guitar. I love the Who and I love Pearl Jam and it's so the Townshend/Vedder guitar!

  • niiiiiiiiiice! I want one.

  • I just got my own gibson sg classic and mine came with a white switch tip and it totally changes the overall look. it made it look more vintagy. If thats a word.

  • Great demo, You have the Pete Townshend tone going! THX...

  • @zouavefrench what a very nice comment, but the tones all in the gear! Pete rules! thanks for watchin'. glenn

  • Nice! Love the Tommy riff's too, sounds bloody good :)

  • @craggy1969 thank you friend!

  • Tonally terrific!

  • @barronvonripper Thank you so much, sincerely, for the nice words! And thank you for watching, Glenn!

  • WARM OR WHAT!

  • @StephenFiorentini !!!!!!!!!!

  • What kind of amp please? the tone is buttery man

  • @epitaph664 Sorry for the delay. The amp here is a Fender Blues Jr.. Thanks, man, Glenn.

  • stunning tone!

  • @GuitarsAmSuck I am a very humble guy in the face of all the kind comments!! Thank you - ALL - Glenn

  • Sparkly cleans and nice chord progressions. Man I wish I kept my Classic.

  • BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOY?!

    BUT WHAT ABOUT THE BOYYY

oh god, such an epic album.

  • Your video really shows off the P-90 tone well. I appreciate you used a decent recorder instead of a pinhole mic. I own one of these guitars as well and love it.

  • @mudshrimpmoe Thank you very much for the comment my friend! But I think I must have gotten lucky recording the tonalities cause all I used was a Lumix camera! Be well, cool!

  • Let me know if you need help filling out your will... you know who gets them sweet axe's!!!!

  • @geneiv Gimme peace of mind and you can have them right now.

  • @superfuzzymomma I can wait Brother... I can wait

  • @LBDarnocCZ I really appreciate the time you took for the comment!

  • You've got some delicious tone there.

  • @superskwrl - It's nice people like yourself that make Youtube cool. Thanks!!

  • Hey, love your guitar! (Nice playing too!). I'm looking into getting one of these and I was wondering what the neck is like?

  • @JimboMansonMB1 - Thanks for that man. The neck on this one is fat and chunky - its an '05. Not sure if the recent batches are the same......

  • Hey man, awesome video, and I don't know if you remember me but I made a comment a couple of months ago about buying either this or a Gretsch, and I went for the Gretsch. Thanks for your help, and I can still manage to get some great "Townshend Tone" out of that thing as well as others. It's pretty cool

  • @HALOMAN11 Yea man, of course I remember. Got the Gretch, huh? I've been hearing a lot about them...I'm glad you're happy with it. Looking forward to seeing some posts and hearing what she sounds like.

  • Yeah cheers man had a mess around with some settings!! I have a zoom g2 with a fender patch on it running through a hiwatt maxwatt 15 only a small amp!! Got some nice tones!!! These guitars are great best buy especially cause im really into that live at Leeds era!! thanks for the help!! I've subscribed you aswell!!

  • Love the sound man i have the same guitar in black!! Do you think it makes much difference to the strings wrappping them around the tail piece? I cant get this sound plus im going through an hiwatt amp? what are you using?

  • @rammsteinbopper08 Hey there, all I'm using here is a Fender Blues Jr. Top wrapping the strings makes bends a little slinkier feeling, it shouldn't have much to do with tone. What kind of Hiwatt do you have? For the vid, my amp was set with some gain so that when the guitar volume is full up the sound is crunchy - But for most of the song my guitar volume is like 3 or 4. You should have no problem getting your rig to sound similar. Hope that helps some??? Anything else, let me know...cool.

  • Nice playing, If you have troubles with the hum or anything about the single coils, buy a Boss sound suppressor. it eliminates hum and annoying sounds that disturb players. trust me, its a great item without having to get a humbucker. Cheers

  • GIBSON NEEDS TO NOT DISCONTINUE THIS GUITAR!!!! ARRGGHH!!!

  • @SurfandTachi im praying they somehow had like a hundred thousand made, so they will last at guitarcenter and musiciansfriend till i can afford one

  • @epitaph664 yeah me too. What's funny is that i got my sg standard right as i heard this news. This will be my next guitar once i figure out the money.

  • Great tone! sounds just like Pete in Tommy Live/ Isle of Weight!

  • Great tone! sounds just like Pete in Tommy Live/ Isle of Weight

    !

  • @MrRatley Thanks, my friend. - Pete put a lot of work into his sound, I just got lucky!

  • "Gotta feeling '21 is gonna be a good year..."

  • What were your settings on the amp.

Also was the amp that fender hot rod in the background

Also it sounded just like pete at woodstock.

  • Comment removed

  • Gigson tone tool !

    Thanks for sharing.

  • What kind of amp is this SG thru? Great PT type sound. I've got this SG but find it's hard to tune due to it's flexibility!

  • how do u play without a pick when i do it its sounds bad so i use the pick plz reply

  • @MrTacofreako its a technique you have to develop, try using your thumb to strum accents and learning some bass techniques for "pop" sounds helpeed

  • This guitar sounds soooooooo much better when you replace that plastic nut with a real bone one

  • does anyone knows which sound is more 'in your face' from this [classic] sg with a5 p90s or from sg special vos with a2 p90s?

  • Hey man ! How would you feel about playing "Behind Blue Eyes" or "Naked Eye" and posting it on youtube ? ;)

  • @saimon1969 I'll get right on it my friend. Thanks for the view!

  • that is the prettiest finish i have ever seen on an sg!!!

  • Very nice demo, my friend. Thanks.

  • nice playing, and great tone! SG's are magical, no question, particularly when played cleanish and/or slightly overdriven (my 2 cents anyway)

  • Well see me,.....Coming Out to get you!!!!

  • @1969thewho White Ugliness!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • it's two p-90 "soap bar" or one "dog ear" and one "soap bar" or two "dog ear" ???

  • @sizimanowski The p-90's in this guitar, I believe, are variations of the soap bar that allow the pickup to be mounted under the pick guard. Dog ear or soap bar only refer to the way the pickups are mounted. The pickups themselves are all wonderful.

  • excuse me sir ehat is better? the p- 90 pickups, humbuckers or single coils?!!pls reply pls pls!!

  • @HutchDano590 - None are better than the others, it depends on what type of tone you are looking for. Generally, Humbuckers are fat sounding "dirtier" and provide a lot of sustain. Single coils sound cleaner and brighter than humbuckers - less sustain. P-90's are single coils so they sound very glassy and clean, but when you drive them with some gain they get really dirty sounding - like humbuckers. It all comes down to what you prefer. Hope this is helpful?

  • @superfuzzymomma tnx it helped a lot!

  • I have one like yours and also an SG Standard ... love 'em both.

Excellent work my friend ... can't beat those P-90s!!!

  • What's special about the neck/body joint? I don't think I've heard a guitar with such difference between the neck and bridge pickups!

  • @cowie86 The neck is joined right at the top of the body, not in a deeper pocket like a Les Paul for instance. This construction gives you access right up to the last fret. It also makes for a weaker joint - many vintage SG's have been cracked at the neck joint. Because the neck is not snugged down into a deep body pocket, when you gently pull the neck backwards after playing a chord a slight vibrato is produced that you can't do with other guitars. Hope I explained it right! Thanks, friend.

  • OMFG, I'm in love with that guitar, awesome sound and the most beautiful design (although I prefer the "brown" color) !!! Moreover, Tommy is one of my favourite albums :)

If you don't mind me asking, how much did you get it for ???

  • @saimon1969 Not at all, friend........I paid $999.00 for it five years ago. They can still be gotten for under a thousand dollars. Cheers, thanks for the view!

  • Great sound, but show us the left hand too next time^^

  • One of my favourite Townshend Riffs mate.I Love the part leading in to the riff where Pete plays some finger picking and ends with the open G string ringing out and turns everything up.LONG LIVE THE WHO

  • 3.05 classic WHO improvisation Guitar riff from LIVE AT LEEDS My Generation medley

I F##kING love playing that and putting the superfuzz on for the solo

Great work!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ......More WHO video's please

  • @1969thewho Thanks for the comments man. That IS a great riff of Pete's, isn't it? The Superfuzz does add just the right amount of chaos to a solo, like the worlds gonna end. Cheers!

  • @1969thewho

Live at Leeds, my favourite Who album, always has been - did you know, it was also John entwistle's favourite Who album? John added, "Because it's the only album we made that sounds like The Who!" (His words, at The Bass Centre, Wapping, in the 1980s)

  • @notepool2 cool info mate

  • @1969thewho Thanks - He played an amazing peice of pure improvisation on the bass that day, no other instruments, and it sounded like a whole orchestra! someone asked him about his funny shaped bass, he said it might look bizarre but was very practical - when playing it at home he used the hooked horn to hang it on the back of a chair!

  • Those Live At Leeds tones...

  • sounds really good! are you playing straight into the Fender amp behind you?

  • @Renhjarta Yes, friend, straight into a stock Fender Blues Jr. Thank you for the view, and Hello to Sweeden from the tomato fields of Jersey! - Glenn

  • it's great to see someone demoing a P-90'd SG, and not resorting to Marshall stack/amp emulator shredding and wankery. you really bring out the essence of this instrument, and there's no better way than with the classic Townshend Tommy/Leeds passages. nice work :)

  • @overdrivethree - My friend, I have always preferred the sound of the axe itself, minus a lot of extraneous anything. You have paid me the highest compliment imaginable with your comment. If you're ever in Bergen County, it would be my pleasure to buy you a cognac! Cheers, and thanks ever for your kindness!

    Glenn*

  • @superfuzzymomma Thank you very much for your input. I'm still a bit unsure about which I should get, and am inclined to buy the gretsch only because of Townshend's great sound he achieved from one on Quadrophenia. Your opinion helped still, so thank you.

  • sweet sounding guitar man

  • I am currently deciding between either this guitar or a Gretsch electromatic G5120. Which is a better guitar (sound/durability) for playing classic rock? I play mostly Who songs, but also some other 60s 70s rock. Thanks!

  • @HALOMAN11 Thanks for asking, friend. Gretches are lovely guitars but I think you'll find you won't get the versatility from them that you will from the Gibson. Especially the Classic with the p-90 pickups. They have a great tonal variety. They can go from clean and glassy to overdriven, snarly and nasty. But bottom line is you go with the sound you like. Also, think about it, a lot of the music from the era you mentioned was made by guys playing a Gibson SG. Good Luck - Glenn

  • Is that first song 1921 by the Who? Sounds damn familiar

  • @HALOMAN11 1921 by the magnificent Mr. Townshend. Thanks for the view!

  • aw man that sg has to be the coolest thing ever! its gunna take me forever to save enough to get one

  • @sk8terdave99 - You can find a Classic for under a grand - damn good price for a name brand American made guitar, and worth every cent! Good luck and thanks for watching.

  • @Hosslikj Wow What are you, some kind of big cheese?

  • @ddpawel - I was wondering that also, friend, since I never even claimed to be playing 1921 - just demoing the guitar. Since this fellow also seems to have been raised very poorly by his further comments he is hereby blocked..

  • Hey there -- what amp is that? Hot Rod Deville? What else is in yer signal chain? Sounds great.

  • @NutleySam - Hey man, thanks for watching, and for the kind word. Amp is a stock Blues Jr. - Guitar straight into amp is the chain. - Peace.

  • Im getting this guitar by the end of june! gotta save my money lol :) cant wait!!!

  • Great guitar! I own an sg classic and it is the best Gibson for it's price. Great playing btw :)

  • I need to get myself on of these. Lovely work with the Tommy stuff.
